@imaStonesFan how can anyone in their right mind be a stoned fan? they've never written anything that's been even halfway good. justin bieber is better than this filth, and i can't think of any insult worse than that.
@iloveniggers1000 you are really lacking some appreciation of the pioneers of great rock concerts, you need to play in a band to understand, i feel you have some underlying issue to cause such an uneducated outburst.
please rethink, all music has its place, you are not a musician to say this
he sang it well have to admit, although can't work out why he played Ned Kelly. I heard some Aussie actors lead a protest when he got the role, after all plenty of aussie talent around even back then.
@chiggmacdonald The Irish version uses Duggan, in the Australian one its Doolan. They were substitutes for Jack Donahoe. The original version of the song was illegalised by the English Troopers so the name was changed and the two versions evolved from the original song separately in order to escape the law against singing it. There are some slight other changes in the 2 versions.
I have this film on DVD...Marianne Faithfull was supposed to star opposite Jagger, but attempted suicide instead. Perhaps she read an advanced script...
Yet another one of Mick's many voices. Though never employed in service of the Stones, it's another color on his palette demonstrating his versatility as a gifted singer.
I Love Waylon too!! and i was so happy he sing in that movie about Ned Kelly, i have the movie but i can`t find it i am going to look for it today i`ll upload some songs of it if i find it and some movie clips i will add
If ye want to hear a good Waylon Jennings get THE LAST TIME lp and Honky Tonk Heros or any one realy ,======Jagger is gettin on my nerves ,he has lips bigger than most monkeys
Yeah not that impressed about Micks version, I have spent a lot of the night listening to all sorts of covers of this one (yeah I have no life). The fact this song still gets a response, after 130yrs shows the quality of it. I just wish that I could write a song that still has folks around the world discussing, debating and playing it long after I was dead.
yes mick can sing this just is not his best but still not bad!!! (johnnyboymcgee) You must not have listened to much of his songs like wild horses or angie
Mick was never successful in movies but he looks happy here. Bob Dylan, Phil Collins or any musicans that attempted movies all were pretty crap come to think of it
NAH...Phil Collins made a funny movie, I thought he was good in, don't remember the title, but it was ALRIGHT, & Jagger should stick with the Rooster!
hey! a. dont even put phil and bob in the same sentence, b. bob was in 2 films, the 1st Pat Garrett and billy the Kid is a great film, the studio butchered it, but the directors cut as Pekinpah indended was great, as was bob's part. The 2nd he did however was Hearts of Fire in the 80s, that was rubbish, he even said so himself!
Thought it was good, atmospheric. Wild Colonial Boy does have a different tune and the guys name is Jack Dugan - never the less I like Micks version.I've never seen Ned Kelly but always heard negative remarks about it. But this bar scene was atmospheric, to me.
My Uncle was in this movie, he played a copper. He has says a grand total of 4 words: "Finish me off Ned"
He played one of the cops that was shot by Ned Kelly ( Mick Jagger ). A lot of this movie was filmed in Braidwood, NSW. A beautiful old colonial town.
It was during those long, boring hours in his trailer (caravan) on the set of this film in the Australian outback that Mick wrote that other great epic on another British colonial experience (the Carribbean): "Brown Sugar." There must have been inspiring magic in the air.
You know, on further reflection on "Brown Sugar" and the actual content of the lyrics, with lines like: "Gold Coast slave ship bound for cotton fields, sold in the market down in New Orleans," the setting is obviously the American South, not the Carribbean.
But that aside, there's been an unfortunate and misguided debate elsewhere on You Tube alleging that the song is racist, and therefore, by extension, so are the Stones. In reality it's just a slice of life observation of a time and place without judging commentary. The action of the song speaks for itself in an unstated way--no condeming commentary being necessary.
Yeah he did write brown sugar at that time, but as Mick said himself, it was about chicks and heroin, so dont read to much into the lyrics, he was under the influence.
Another thing there is a place in Australia called the "Gold Coast", that he spent a bit of time in, so take that into account.
awesome song its catchy

All they truly want, like every civilised nation, is a lovely peaceful life, good governance, and to beat the Poms at Cricket.
