I don't understand. Iran has a very young population (Two thirds under 30) who happen to be very well educated. To me, I can't help but think that Ahmadinejad is not representative of its people. If the USA attacks Iran it won't be the Ahmadinejads who is punished it will be the civilians. This will only lead to more resentment of the United States. I say give it time, the young well educated Iranians will eventually take up positions of power and the Ahmadinejad types will dissapear.

I would imagine the Iranian constitution also mandates free and fair elections but obviously that doesn't happen.
There is a definite shift in power towards Ahmadinejad and the military though. It is true tha the supreme leader is still tops, but Ahmadinejad is excercising more influence than any other president since 1979. The idea that the Mullahs run everything is outdated. McCain is actually right on this one. While the Supreme Leader technically is head of state, Ahmadinijhad has taken firm control of Iranian policy in the past several years. The power of the mullahs has shifted somewhat to Ahmadinijhad and the military and away from the supreme leader. It is true though, that Ahmadinijhad is the first president of Iran since 1979 to do this though so the liberal know it all questioner in this case was only about 4 years off.

Ahmadinejad mainly controls Iran's Budget & is a face for diplomatic relations and every Policy decision he makes has to be approved by the Supreme Council
Speeches don't make up Policy that's true not just for Iran but every country in the world

I don't understand. Iran has a very young population (Two thirds under 30) who happen to be very well educated. To me, I can't help but think that Ahmadinejad is not representative of its people. If the USA attacks Iran it won't be the Ahmadinejads who is punished it will be the civilians. This will only lead to more resentment of the United States. I say give it time, the young well educated Iranians will eventually take up positions of power and the Ahmadinejad types will dissapear.
