Seriously, 2 Centurions and a Wolfhound against a Thor, Vulture and 2 Madcats? never thought IS mechs are that fragile. 02:56-58, fired an LRM salvo and it backfires at you and it knocks your mech off? sheesh but Inner Sphere rules still! \m/
I swear, Nicholai's Summoner (Thor to you freebirth scum) is a nod to Char's Zaku. It's red, it's got a fin/horn thingy on its head (which by the way is in the center for some strange reason).
@MajinGatomon They have data on the Woldhound because, befor the clan invaded in 3049, they gathering intel on IS. In the year 3000 Clan Ghost Bear suggested it, and shortly after a unit was formed and sent to IS space in the disguise of a mercenary unit, calling them selves the "Wolf's Dragoons". They arrived in IS space in 3005, and during the next 44 years they gathered intel for the Clan on all the major factions, by worked for all of them for several years befor moving on to the next one.
I love how if you read the books there are some Inner Sphere leaders who still think that Kerensky's people are coming back to save them from the Clans, and then to find out that the Clans are Kerensky's people...talk about mud on your face lol.
omg it took me so long to find this, I've read virtually all the books of battletech, mechwarrior and mechwarrior dark age. I was so pissed that no more books are being made.
They should do a battletech Anime. Like Orguss 02-ish, so it stays true to the game, and not like Macross or something. I'd like to see that., anyway.
I read the Blood of Kerensky trilogy before checking out the animated series. This pilot doesn't introduce any of the familiar characters from those novels, but it seems to focus more on the BattleTech universe.
Guess they were going for nonstop action. The director must have seen a problem if explosions weren't at most 10 seconds apart.
hello there, ya buncha cannisters! i'll be honest... i only posted 'cause i wanna call someone a cannister born. i never get a chance to xD
freeborn warriors do just fine in clans. if i remember, clan hell's horses and clan diamond shark had plenty of freebirths in the ranks. the fact that they're still alive is proof they aren't bad.
@drugonam First of all, YOU are also a freebirth and would not last 1 week in any of the Clans.
Second of all, 'aff' is the reply gievn to the retoric 'quiaff' so you should end your question with 'quiaff' - not 'aff', since you are asking something, not replying.
@glp60 its "BatChall" wich comes from "Battle Challange" Where the Clanners would issue a formal challange and set the terms and conduct in wich the following combat would be carried out. The clans are very strict about how they carried out warfare.
Mechwarrior 2 takes place AFTER the clan invasion. The refusal war which MW2 covered was mainly about a ... disagreement... on how to continue the invasion, if at all.
What you see here is also what takes place during Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries.
08th MS Team is known for being the most realistic/believable in the Gundam franchise (as opposed to Wing or, and especially, SEED). For example: there's the EZ8, the "mobile suits" moving at a slow rate, no characters slashing 10k mechas with one swoop, etc.
And you can thank Macross, Dougram, and Crusher Joe for introducing the "walking tank" design with later designs made by FASA. Unfortunately, not a lot of current shows have such designs when concerning the "real robot" genre.
I always wondered why, in this cartoon, the IS troops always praised Kerensky (as evidence in the saying "in the name of Kerensky..."), when Kerensky would have been seen as a traitor by the Great Houses for having packed up the bulk of the SLDF and fled rather than fight.
@Gallowell of course not. I wasn't designed pre-birth to be genetically superior and then trained from childhood till I was an adult to be a mechwarrior. you wouldn't cut it either.
@rifleman1122 Whether the Clanner's were actually genetically superior was never truly discerned. Heck in a few cases like Phelan, the good old fashioned Freebirths did better than the Trueborn bastards.
@rifleman1122 I never said that I would. I only say that to you, because you made it sound as though you were cheering for the Clans to win, and if you actually lived in the BattleTech universe, then you'd end up living under their rule and way of life; being freeborn, in other words: second-rate citizen.
@Gallowell Indeed. I like Clan tech and I like their culture, but I don't like the whole "We're superior beings" BS. Once the IS finally got it's collective ass in gear and developed new mechs nearer to the Clan's omni-mechs on a technological level, then the Clanner's veil of invincibility came crashing down, having already had a few losses before the turn about. Then we have the Battle of Tukkayid and the Great Refusal.....Did Khan Vladimir Ward of Clan Wolf ever die? I can't recall.
Khan Vlad Ward of the Wolves did not die in the Classic Battletech story line, and I have not come across anything about his death in any source material. After Tukkayid (I wish this show had prograssed up to that battle so I could have heard how that name is meant to be pronounced) some Clans, like Clan Ghost Bear, realised their errors in judgement and sought out new policies, and many Clans will recognise the worth and merits of Freeborn warriors.
Silly Clanners...you are gone for 200+ years and you expect the Inner Sphere (Who had no idea you even existed before now) to know and practice every single little detail of the Clan lifestyle.
Fedcom are actually influenced by scandanavian, irish, german and western and central europe. The free worlds league has some american influences but the main american faction was the terran hegemony which founded the star league but was destroyed when the star league fell
@ShadowSonic2 the draconis combine are japanese (they have concepts such as seppuku and bushido), while the capellan confederation are more like russian
@glynny99 I'm guessing the Federated Commonwealth are a combo of the UK and America, right? That's why the Archon has a British Accent but Adam Steiner and his group are American?
@thedeadcthulhu Yes, they're primarily Chinese in culture, but do incorporate some other cultures, like any of the Great Houses, but the (then) Free Raselhague Rebublic and (now) Raselhague Dominion are based mostly on the Russian cultural side, if I'm not mistaken.
I mostly stuck with the (then) Clan Snow Raven and (now) Raven Alliance, as well as the Confederation, so I didn't pay much attention to detail in most other realms.
@Vivdrix You know why? Because they are afriad of what Battletech was and what it could become once again. Besides if im correct didn't they have this problem before? Their "destoid tomahawk" is our Warhammer. All FASA had to do was pay some royalties and credit them with the battlemech.
@SardaukarPrime Blame the owners of that show, i think it was Macross, and they sued the company for the mechs looking like theirs... they may have killed MW5...
Since when does the centurion have a laser on its arm? Its always been an ac10 unless this is another varient of it but to me it has always been an ac10 on the arm, lrm 10 on the center torso I think, and a medium laser in the rear center torso and a medium laser on the right torso
@halomarine101 From the 3025 Tech Readout (original, not the new one without the unseen) "Another common variant replaces the autocannon with one Heavy and one Light Angst L-type laser and adds four heat sinks to dissipate the additional heat generated. Four extra tons of armor are also added. The Lyran Commonwealth (one of the FedCom states) uses this model quite often as a guerrilla fighter.
I don't remember mech battles EVER being this slow-paced (at least on the video games). Battletech would probably do well as an anime but as a Saturday morning cartoon it just seems trite. 'Course I'm only 5 minutes in but I don't think it's going to get any better.
@josefblack Clan doctrine is to bid the minimal force required to achieve victory or an objective. The bidder that made the lowest bid of forces must use only the forces they bid to take the objective. If they bid too small a force to win, they are disgraced (and often die). The next winning bid uses only the amount they bid and probably win that time. This is how the Clans reduce military waste. Their code requires them to only engage one enemy mech at a time, unless attacked by another
@SteveC935 I know about Clan bidding and how they operate in battle. I was just making a joke. Though, I do think their combat doctrine is pretty retarded when faced with enemies like the Successor States and any mercenaries they might hire on, who are perfectly willing to employ underhanded tactics to win. Though, this point's been done to death by now.
Awesomeness! I'm a mech fan just look at some of my videos lol, But I'm very happy I found this series ^^ It clears up some of the stuff with the history, and I love the Clan invasions! Thats when the Timber wolf was in its prime :D
I never knew there was a cartoon until I did a search on "Battletech" on youtube! Anyone know when this was made? It looks very much like an 80's cartoon.
@PhoenixFireZero That looks like a Thor 70 ton omni mech to me. Many years ago I used to play Battletech the board game, and still have lots of the tech readouts and books. A lot are over 20 yrs old hehe
@PhoenixFireZero I know what you mean, after reading your question I went and dug out my old tech readout 3055, and thats what ?it looks like. What got me was all the mechs bewen in the wrong units though, Hunchback IICs in a front line Omnimech Trinary and Maulers, a verified Draconic Combine battlemech in FC units. Made me chuckel a bit, especially since i read a lot of the fiction books as well as played the game many years ago.
@PhoenixFireZero Thats what I thought possible to, except that when the Clans were invading that class of mech, according to the tech readout, had just started its testing at the proving grounds of Luthien Armour Works. Guess it is because I read a lot of the novels and did play the game quite avidly back then that I noticed it straight away and it stuck in my mind.
@PhoenixFireZero If you're going to refer to a Clan Omni, then at least have the decency to call it by its Clan name, and not some IS-fucked up designation. - "SUMMONER" as opposed to 'thor"
I'm shocked how unclanlike jade falcons acted in this cartoon when they started invasion. They used aerospace fighters to attack mechs in hengar. In fact they were during entire cartoon unclanlike lot of time.
@Mecha82 Yep it's not very clan like. Aerotech engaging unpiloted mech's, random sabotage and crazy crazy mech configurations. I always found it funny that the same pilot keeps driving that Hunchback IIC around... you think he'd take the hint and top himself already.
It was Mike Stackpole's X-wing books that got me into Battletech. The whole MechWarrior universe had a cool set-up and I liked gritty feel of the whole thing. The Gundam stuff was a bit too polished, the characters too childish for my tastes; some actually broke down and started crying in the middle of a battle!
Gundam 08th MS Team was the exception, though. That show had good characters and gritty realism. Too bad there's only, like, 12 episodes. Guess it didn't have enough crying kids.
@tHeWasTeDYouTh Yeah, fuck off you little shit. You don't know anything about classic cartoons, swept up in you own fucking own of the shit house transformers fad of late and bakugan.
Wow, I haven't seen this show in yonks. BattleTech had a major influence on my high school years as a comic artist. The CGI is a typical example of early 3D from the 90's, such as in ReBoot, Jonny Quest and Skeleton Warriors. But "enhanced imaging" sounds incredibly cheesy these days. Don't you mean "unenhanced imaging"?
If battletech is a "greeeat and mature history" why this animation looks like a cartoon for kids?... in anime this really could be very respectable... really they needs crib one or two gundam designs for make it a decent franchise...
@KingZolem Yes, the (bored) "battledorid" (later called battletech) game, filled with the same designs plagiarized from macross and dougram (1982), little creativity and copyright lawsuits; and supplemented with ugly and obsolete own designs and arround 100 slow and bored novels
@NatsumaruSama Simply because the BattleTech cartoon was DESIGNED for kids.
Make it a decent franchise? Bloody hell, you obviously do not know about the 60+ BattleTech books written over the last 20 years, the 30+ MechWarrior books written over the last 8 years, or the 9 odd MechWarrior GAMES over the last 20 years,
BattleTech and Gundam started only with a few short years seperating them in syndication.
@Gallowell Yes, i know about of battletech novels, and game expansions, but look at this: in 1979 appeared gundam, and in 1982 votoms, dougram and macross were great exponents of the "real-robot" genre created by gundam (only 3 years after), 2 years later, battletech was created following the same realistic gundam philosophy and based on Macross (plagiarism?) and, were sued for copyright more than once and the rest is (bored) history...5 years were crucial for "make it a decent franchise"
lol, this is real cheesy.

I didn't know there was a Battletech cartoon! Wow!
TheDarkMaster1989 11 months ago
The enhanced imaging is the only thing i don't like.
Maximusthalos 11 months ago
This had to be the slowest-moving and dullest action cartoon ever made.
skendrii1 11 months ago
this is more like a videogame than a tv show
Muffinfordinner 11 months ago
I don't remember mech battles EVER being this slow-paced (at least on the video games). Battletech would probably do well as an anime but as a Saturday morning cartoon it just seems trite. 'Course I'm only 5 minutes in but I don't think it's going to get any better.
ShaolinSKunk 1 year ago
A full Trinary? Oh dear, a whole fifteen mechs! What army could possibly stand against such a force?

@josefblack Easy, another Clanner Trinary.

@SulliMike241 ...Well played.
josefblack 11 months ago
@josefblack I know, I was like "What?"
WarsharkProductions 11 months ago
@josefblack That would be their opening bid jose, not their entire assault force
kingc0m 11 months ago
@josefblack Clan doctrine is to bid the minimal force required to achieve victory or an objective. The bidder that made the lowest bid of forces must use only the forces they bid to take the objective. If they bid too small a force to win, they are disgraced (and often die). The next winning bid uses only the amount they bid and probably win that time. This is how the Clans reduce military waste. Their code requires them to only engage one enemy mech at a time, unless attacked by another
SteveC935 11 months ago
@SteveC935 I know about Clan bidding and how they operate in battle. I was just making a joke. Though, I do think their combat doctrine is pretty retarded when faced with enemies like the Successor States and any mercenaries they might hire on, who are perfectly willing to employ underhanded tactics to win. Though, this point's been done to death by now.

at 4:21 the logo on the left kinda reminds me of the Wolf Dragoons in mechassault
assasin229 1 year ago
@assasin229 That'd be the Draconis Combine. They're basically Space Japan.

@Buemmo Ikr? But since when does anyone play fair? Outclassing your opponent is the 1st step in winning.

@iHateSpoilerz i thought the clanners would prefer fair fights instead of slaughter

@Buemmo meh, the clanners deemed those pilots as unworthy of fair fights, so slaughter it is!

Can anyone Identify the red jade falcon mech in the first part, or the one with the axe?
PhoenixFireZero 1 year ago
@PhoenixFireZero That looks like a Thor 70 ton omni mech to me. Many years ago I used to play Battletech the board game, and still have lots of the tech readouts and books. A lot are over 20 yrs old hehe
Paultootall1971 1 year ago
@Paultootall1971 I thought so too at first, but the head is completely different from any Thor I've seen so far.
PhoenixFireZero 1 year ago
@PhoenixFireZero I know what you mean, after reading your question I went and dug out my old tech readout 3055, and thats what ?it looks like. What got me was all the mechs bewen in the wrong units though, Hunchback IICs in a front line Omnimech Trinary and Maulers, a verified Draconic Combine battlemech in FC units. Made me chuckel a bit, especially since i read a lot of the fiction books as well as played the game many years ago.
Paultootall1971 1 year ago
@Paultootall1971 Well, a DracCom Mauler in FedCom possession isn't all that far-fetched, it was likely captured or salvaged.
PhoenixFireZero 1 year ago
@PhoenixFireZero Thats what I thought possible to, except that when the Clans were invading that class of mech, according to the tech readout, had just started its testing at the proving grounds of Luthien Armour Works. Guess it is because I read a lot of the novels and did play the game quite avidly back then that I noticed it straight away and it stuck in my mind.
Paultootall1971 1 year ago
@PhoenixFireZero If you're going to refer to a Clan Omni, then at least have the decency to call it by its Clan name, and not some IS-fucked up designation. - "SUMMONER" as opposed to 'thor"
Gallowell 1 year ago
@Gallowell You again?!
Anyway, I prefer to call it 'Thor' because I live on Earth, in the heart of the Inner Sphere.
PhoenixFireZero 1 year ago
@PhoenixFireZero Yeah, just like I prefer to say "Mad Cat" instead of Timberwolf.
iHateSpoilerz 1 year ago
@PhoenixFireZero It looks quite "fat" for a Thor, or is it just me? And since when does it have "leg lasers"?
iHateSpoilerz 1 year ago
@PhoenixFireZero It's called an Axeman, it was mentioned in the episode after the simulation.
iHateSpoilerz 1 year ago
I'm shocked how unclanlike jade falcons acted in this cartoon when they started invasion. They used aerospace fighters to attack mechs in hengar. In fact they were during entire cartoon unclanlike lot of time.
Mecha82 1 year ago
@Mecha82 Yep it's not very clan like. Aerotech engaging unpiloted mech's, random sabotage and crazy crazy mech configurations. I always found it funny that the same pilot keeps driving that Hunchback IIC around... you think he'd take the hint and top himself already.

@danilo34marasigan No, it has always been PC, except for the mechassault games.

@Gallowell
no there was also a battletech game on the sega (battletech) and the same game on the SNES ( Battletech 3050)
bismuth1985 1 year ago
It was Mike Stackpole's X-wing books that got me into Battletech. The whole MechWarrior universe had a cool set-up and I liked gritty feel of the whole thing. The Gundam stuff was a bit too polished, the characters too childish for my tastes; some actually broke down and started crying in the middle of a battle!
Gundam 08th MS Team was the exception, though. That show had good characters and gritty realism. Too bad there's only, like, 12 episodes. Guess it didn't have enough crying kids.
GeneralThornton 1 year ago
@GeneralThornton Wow, you've actually read star wars books? I can't believe that something so shit could have gotten you on BattleTech!
MS though, is a very dry writer. Robert Thurston really hit the saga home in a far better way.

you gotta love this goofy vintage UPN animation
bertbertization 1 year ago
Wow, I haven't seen this show in yonks. BattleTech had a major influence on my high school years as a comic artist. The CGI is a typical example of early 3D from the 90's, such as in ReBoot, Jonny Quest and Skeleton Warriors. But "enhanced imaging" sounds incredibly cheesy these days. Don't you mean "unenhanced imaging"?
Glitcher2000 1 year ago
If battletech is a "greeeat and mature history" why this animation looks like a cartoon for kids?... in anime this really could be very respectable... really they needs crib one or two gundam designs for make it a decent franchise...
NatsumaruSama 1 year ago
@NatsumaruSama Except that the designs are from the tebletop game.
KingZolem 1 year ago
@KingZolem Yes, the (bored) "battledorid" (later called battletech) game, filled with the same designs plagiarized from macross and dougram (1982), little creativity and copyright lawsuits; and supplemented with ugly and obsolete own designs and arround 100 slow and bored novels

NatsumaruSama 1 year ago
@NatsumaruSama Simply because the BattleTech cartoon was DESIGNED for kids.
Make it a decent franchise? Bloody hell, you obviously do not know about the 60+ BattleTech books written over the last 20 years, the 30+ MechWarrior books written over the last 8 years, or the 9 odd MechWarrior GAMES over the last 20 years,
BattleTech and Gundam started only with a few short years seperating them in syndication.
Gallowell 1 year ago
@Gallowell Yes, i know about of battletech novels, and game expansions, but look at this: in 1979 appeared gundam, and in 1982 votoms, dougram and macross were great exponents of the "real-robot" genre created by gundam (only 3 years after), 2 years later, battletech was created following the same realistic gundam philosophy and based on Macross (plagiarism?) and, were sued for copyright more than once and the rest is (bored) history...5 years were crucial for "make it a decent franchise"
