  • thanks for uploading

  • Who'd have thought that right in the middle of the dopey show there'd be a beautiful song like ''Namely You.'' Music is by journeyman Gene DePaul, lyrics by the great Johnny Mercer. Btw, I wonder if any Broadway show ever had three women in key parts as beautiful as Edie Adams, Julie Newmar and Tina Louise, all in their mid-20s then.

  • I haven't seen this movie in 15 years! This play was the first musical theatre production I performed in at the ripe old age of 11. Such great memories watching this.

  • Thanks so much for sharing this! There was a high school production that I LOVED and this was one of my favorite songs. Great memories! :)

  • Wow. Watch a Rich Hall documentary called "The Dirty South". All about southern stereotypes. But julie Newmar is rather fine. xxx

  • Al Capp was asked why he drew so many stacked, curvaceous, beautiful women in skimpy clothing. His reply: " I like those kind of women."

  • Love honor and OBEY. Go go gadget political incorrectness.

  • Lovely song..

  • Leslie Parrish and Peter Palmer, as pretty a pair as ever stepped onscreen--sigh--and nothing ever happened for either.

  • ^_^

  • thank you for putting this on i saw this at the movies when i was a little kid . did you see jerry lewis had a small roll

  • It's not dubbed. That's her singing. She had a long singing career as well as acting. I fell in love with her as a child and thought it would be my right, as an Italian, to find such a woman when I grew up at least as tall, strong & handsome as Li'L Abner. But that was before I realized I was handicapped . I didn't grow up to be Abner & never found Daisy but there were many dreams of her I had to repent of since puberty. ::Blush::

  • @Arieliondotcom The usual procedure is to dub singing in movie musicals, whether by the actor or by another singer. This procedure is called ADR/automatic dialogue replacement, so there won't be a great many re-takes to get the song sung in lip synch.

And yes, Leslie Parrish is stunningly lovely. She had a fairly significant, but secondary role, in "The Manchurian Candidate" but got very little publicity for it. Angela Lansbury got the female top banana credit. Don't know why.

  • we doing this at school and i had no idea what it was even about... i want daisy mae now cuz my boyfriends gonna get abner for like, sure... btw the girl in this play is such a bad lipsyncer hahaha

  • @RegretfulPonys so the cast list came out! i didn't get daisy BUT i did get mammy :) so im happy... oh and my boyfriend did get abner :D

  • I got to be part of our community theatre cast for this musical....It was the most fun Ive ever had in theatre...

  • I just auditioned for this at ,y school ^-^ I hope I get Daisy Mae

  • Does anyone know if a version of Lil Abner from Ft Hood, Tex from 1970-1 exist on the web...if so please send me the link for it.....if there was anyone in that production who was in the play that was stationed at the time in Ft Hood...please say hey...thanks so much

  • I like the video because I'm going to be in a play and we have to use that song for the audition so it really helped me to also see how I should have my voice so i give the video five stars

  • WHat a good-looking couple they were in this wonderful musical movie.

  • they sound like whiney bitches

  • God, those colors are so beautiful - I've never seen this before! ^_^

  • to ars 1396--i apologize soooo much for my ignorance--thank you sooo much for correcting me--you know; sometimes i fall under the misguided conclusion that all handsome guys are clueless and conceited--but i am always willing to admit when i am wrong. Thank you so much.

  • Ok so... I know Peter Palmer personally and he's really nice and COOL! He's now helping other children with acting and theater! If you met him, you'd love him! :D

  • Uh, scloges1, sweet baby of love, that aint John Gavin its Peter Palmer. No, he didnt work much in the movies after this. The New Age guru is Anthony Robbins. You know, John Gavin might have been really great as Lil Abner. Youve got an eye, baby!

  • John Gavin looks a bit like that guy who still tries to get people to walk on coals...who now sports a sly beard....

  • I'll alway's think of my sister Donna who played the soundtrack endlessly in those innicent days of the 60's.Remember seaking in food to the movies to watch this classic.Stubby Kaye is a classic.

  • i guess and peter palmer-he's dumb-she deserves a smarter man

  • Ok, well I know him personally and he's really nice so that's not exactly a nice thing to say. He isn't dumb, I mean I understand if you didn't like the performance- I did- but dumb is not the word you should use. Lol, I know I say people are dumb sometimes I'll admit lol... but just... he's not, so just wanted to let you know.

  • Beautiful Leslie Parrish (Daisy Mae) gave some stellar TV performances. Notably, Star Trek (Who Mourns for Adonais) and Big Valley (Bounty on a Barkley). My favorite though is a Mannix episode (DVD, Season 1) entitled The Girl in the Frame. Its about a fake Renoir, a portrait of a beautiful, blonde nymph frolicking near a stream. Leslie plays the girl in the picture. How wonderful is that? A portrait of Leslie painted in the style of Renoir.

  • Saw this as a kid at Radio City Music Hall.

  • @in2food ...really? how was that?

  • Sorry. Just fleeting memories, really. I remember that, even as a kid, I noticed Julie Newmar and how big Abner was. I was also aware that the theater was more than just a movie house. It had a sense of importance about it. Strange... I had forgotten that until just now.

  • @in2food They weren't called "movie palaces" for nothing. Movie theatres then were designed as exotic entertainment destinations, with elaborate decoration that evoked foreign destinations or fairy tales. Movie plexes now are just cheap concrete boxes painted primary colors, designed to get the public in and out quickly.

  • u should put druthers from the movie

  • Fun musical with a great song by the late, great Johnny Mercer! Thanks for posting!
