2) at a constant deceleration rate of 3.0 meters/second/second (5.8 knots/s = target maximum autobrake) the airplane would need 1059 meters to stop and overrun the runway end at a speed of 36 knots.
3) the airplane would need to exercise a constant deceleration rate of 3.18 meters/second/second (6.18 knots/s) to stop at the runway end. This deceleration rate is possible with manual braking.
Let's face it, the international airport can not still working inside the city it is too dangerous for the citizens around it, even if in this case the pilot failed, all the big cities have the air ports out side. Only the people who have business in the airport want it there. Ask the people who had landed there if they liked (some of them made shit on their pants), Ask the people who live around the airport if they want it there. Beside we have the biggest airport in Central America (Palmerola)
ahhh!
Omg!!! I just flew back from Honduras yesterday.. To imagine only so many hours ago we were driving through Tegucigalpa... It's stories like this that fill my heart with fear for my husband and family living there... I'm just thanking god that my husband is in Cortes this weekend.... ni quiero imaginar
So sad to hear Taca's reputation go down over such a bad airport runway. My Condolences to all who had family members whom perished. Even the taxi driver that perished underneath the airplane :(
that was an accident waitin' to happen. this airport is so fuckin' fuckin' small that even a seagull has probolems landin' there.feel sorry for the human lost of lives.hopefully the honduran goverment will learn from this accident, a maybe some day they'll build a bigger airport.
Have you ever heard the saying: "No 2 landings are the same?!" When you park your car in your garage, why isn't it in the same spot - exactly - all the time?! Is it because you are an incompetent driver or just because life is never the same?! Landing an airplane takes SKILL. It is not like riding a bicycle or skateboard. You have nature elements that affect your landing, you have weight of the aircraft which is never the same, you have the element of fatigue (we are all humans).
Just because there were 400 landings of other A320's, that does NOT MEAN ANYTHING! I am sure that out of those 400 previous landings, some were made by the same crew members and the lived to talk about it. It just gets me when an ignorant person criticizes a tragedy like this based on the theory that "400 others did it" without really understanding the reality behind what happened. Be assured that the crew was properly trained, with A320 experience.
For your Info Moron! American airline and Continental according to their SOP prohibit to land in Toncontin runway 02 with more than 5 kt of tail wind, TACA 390 did it with 10 kt in addition to wet or damp runway witch add more difficulties to the landing, more than 1430 meters of runway are need it in order to perform such a landing.
The Big question: the pilot violated the SOP? or the airline operator push the pilots to land no matter what to comply with the schedules?
2) at a constant deceleration rate of 3.0 meters/second/second (5.8 knots/s = target maximum autobrake) the airplane would need 1059 meters to stop and overrun the runway end at a speed of 36 knots.
3) the airplane would need to exercise a constant deceleration rate of 3.18 meters/second/second (6.18 knots/s) to stop at the runway end. This deceleration rate is possible with manual braking.
If we assume, that the airplane comes into the picture about 650 meters past the displaced threshold and has 1000 meters to go until the runway end, we would compute following scenarios (starting point 650 meters down the runway at a speed of 155.0 knots):
1) at a constant deceleration rate of 1.5 meters/second/second (2.9 knots/s = target of minimum autobrake) the airplane would need 2119 meters to stop and pass the runway end at a speed of 112 knots.

You must be member of Mara Salvatrucha your pilot made a big time mistake landing over 500 yards after the impact zone.
The runway is short it was always short after more than 400 landing of a320´s so it can´t be the excuse
