  • Try the Boafeng UV-R3

  • i have this same radio, and for some reason i cant program in the GMRS/FRS frequencies or anything in the 400-475 range as the manual says, i know i messed up someware, and i cant seem to find any settings in the radio to use that frequency set @_@ please help, also, nic video, and these little radios are great

  • Do you have a link? Thanks!

  • do you do this with the standard Wouxan programming software? If so how?

  • @1978R100RS No its software from mods (dot) dk

  • If you have any questions my email is (recyko@hotmail.com)

  • Which is best: wouxun uvd 1p or Midland CT-790

wouxun uvd 1p only costs about 90 USD on ebay! :)

    Midland CT-790 really costs 300 USD! : (

Both have the same frequensy range, talk range and software. Everything looks quite the same the only difference I see is the price.

I myself have a wouxun uvd 1p with free shoulder mic, usb cable and software do I buyed it on ebay for only 105 USD! :)

And I'm quite pleased with it!

So I would suggest the (WOUXUN UVD 1p)

  • very good for you swr

  • Airband transmissions are in the 121-200 Mhz range and they are in AM not FM, so what is is the point in having a radio that can receive on those bands in FM mode only? More importantly, transmitting on those bands, even in the wrong mode of transmission is just plain stupid, and apart from the risk of endangering life by transmitting there, it is also HIGHLY ILLEGAL and completely irresponsible.

  • I have a question, I use basic FRS/GMRS radios that are readily available at most sporting good stores. I've been looking into the Wouxun, but have little idea if it will do what I need. The main concer is the ability to pick up FRS/GMRS freqs which are 462.5625MHz to 462.725MHz and see the Wouxuns listed 400-470MHz...would those Wouxuns work with basic FRS/GMRS freqs?

  • @jmy102882 Well this afternoon i typed the 462.5615 into my radio and it sat there no issues and could tx so seems to be ok. The radio indeed works normal 400-470mhz so the frequency should indeed be ok

  • @jmy102882 Not unless modded to transmit out of range. Those frequencies are gmrs only and not part of the normal operating range of transmit on the Wouxan. However, after modding it can transmit on them but the tones are different so I believe it will only work in the simplex mode.

  • @jmy102882 yes the Wouxun, Baofeng, etc radios will communicate with FRS/GMRS, but remember its technically illegal to do so. If you want the basic legalities you can look them up or send me a message.

  • Been looking for a cheap dual bander and really tempted to get one of these, they seem to have nothing but good reports. What do you think Simon is there better cheap imports or should I stick to one of these sets. They seem to have everything I need and seem to be a really sturdy set.

  • @darynsax dont think there is anything better cheaper? All people seem to love Wouxun

  • @darynsax There is nothing better in this price range at all, not even at twice the price. Get one and you will love it.

  • I too have the same radio with me but i don't have a data usb cable got with it. Now i want to unlock my radio but i have no idea about the pin outs of the usb. I tried to find out in the internet but i didn't get any leads.

So therefore if you could help me give me the pin outs i can design a usb cable myself.

    Looking forward for your help.

  • Have you listened to the transmit on the other freq i had one of these and it says it transmits on screen but actually does not but it will receive on certain freqs only.

  • Mine is working from 118 to 175 and 420 to 520...

  • that radio is crap.

  • The 420-520MHz model will NOT go below 420MHz. All one can do is expand the VHF band to 121-200MHz and UHF to 525MHz. Anything else is bullshit and will probably lock your radio.

  • It´s a joke? This radio can able to transmit in all range because de VFO don´t look, only TX in 125 to 174 mhz and in version 400-480 only tx in 400- to 485 mhz

  • hey! Thanks for the fast reply! :)

obviously being new to the radios I havent got much clue...

but basically, if i do use the radio to connect to Air Traffic Control Towers, then I will be right outside the airport(S) watching them come in.

I will also get some kind of SMA adapter so that I can plug a bigger aerial into the radio, and put it ontop of the car. (btw, which type aerial will I need? UHF? VHF? etc)

Going back to its actual use, is the radio good to use for the amateur band?

    Thanks

  • @ShamBoozleStudios The radio works excellent within its designed area 136/174 and 400/470 and outside this do not waste your time really. Dual Band Antenna yes of course as the radio is dual band. BNC Adapter to SO239 if you want to run a car antenna with the radio or house antenna. If you want to listen to planes best buy a receiver with AM as this for you is a waste of time. Amateur Radio and PMR sure its excellent. The rest you need another radio for.

  • hello! Need some help from the radio am's out there!

I am hopefully going to be passing my amateur foundation license next weekend...

So I want to buy a radio. I was going to buy this model but from this website:

    radio shop 888 fullstop coom / radioshop_product fullstop php?id=10363

I was wondering, would I still be able to listen to Air Traffic Control and other frequencies outside of the amateur radio band?

Of course it would be only to listen in as I am an aviation enthusiast :)

    Alex

  • @ShamBoozleStudios Not really. This radio is FM and airband is AM. Will work rubbish

  • what software did you use to unlock the radio?????

  • @amswanson1256 The software is now added to Mods dk by the Polish writers

  • Hey thanks for this, I got the software from mods.dk not because I want to "unlock" mine but rather I want to lock it to the amateur 2m and 70cm bands so I don't accidentally transmit outside of the allocations.. Also helpful to see how to read/write from the eeprom!

  • You can make the display show what you want. It will NOT transmit or receive out of its designed frequency limits. This has been tested a lot and verified. There have been instances of where the VFO will lock permanently, rendering the radio useless. The "J03" mentioned is NOT a firmware revision, it is a Date code for the date of manufacture.

The unlock software *will* take certain radios designed for certain nations and allow access to frequencies. It can also "lock" radios.

  • Wouxun is not "Woo-Zun"...it is pronounced "Oh-Shang" (From Wouxun's website)

  • Can the KG-UDV1P Rx on the freq 118 to 144?

  • Destroy the radio?

  • so can i purchase two of these things and use them out of the box with out connecting to a repeater? and without unlocking

  • @sargon1131 Depends where you buy them. In Germany they are sold working from 136-174 and 400-460mhz and INDEED you can use them without any repeater.

  • @simonthewizard im going to order them online to ship to canada. any website you recommend?

  • @simonthewizard lets say that my local police station is on on 401.267(i made that up) so does that mean i can talk with them?

  • @sargon1131

If you want to go to jail, here in the U.S. its usually a stiff fine or jailtime, usually jailtime.

The last person I know who did this wound up doing 6 months on a year sentence.

If you ARE authorized to talk on those bands, this radio probably is'nt type certified for it, which can also be a very, very stiff fine.

  • @cswilsn

How can they ever find you if you are not constantly transmitting?

  • @zoltan6561

RDF, Frequency audits, wrong place, wrong time. It's like a felon carrying a gun, you may or may not get caught. Most ham radio operators pay attention, and will most likely ask you questions about your radio if they get a chance.

Don't be cheap. Buy type certified radios for your application, or face fines that will exceed your equipment cost, and financially ruin you.

You don't have to be keying down all the time for someone to track you down using a simple Doppler unit.

  • @cswilsn

From my understanding police needs to contact FCC , then FCC sends their vans equipped with directional antennas and then they drive around the city searching for source of transmission. Couple of short transmissions once per day will not be enough to find you. .

  • @cswilsn

sorry for my bad English .

  • @zoltan6561

Good luck, its a risk, and a crime. Just keep that in mind and don't complain if you do get caught :)

Look up fox hunting, we do it here frequently. someone hides in the city with a transceiver sending VERY short transmissions, we locate them pretty easily. Within minutes, not hours. Its a fun hobby.

No, the FCC does not need to dispatch a van, in certain situation LE can make the arrest. The FCC can only issue the administrative fine (I believe a law judge can too).

  • @cswilsn Fox hunting transmitters constantly transmit beeping signals

  • @zoltan6561

Really? I've never done it that way. Sounds too easy :). And no, they do not transmit beeping signals.

All of the fox hunting transmitters we hide for the hobby are timed/or timed random - There is no point in hunting a constant signal....I guess if you wanted to run a REALLY short event (like a 30 minute hunt or something) you could.

We hide our transmitters well (and the operator), power varies, antenna height varies, time delays vary.

it only takes a day (two max)....

  • Could you send me the keyboard routine if there is one. And otherwise could you send me the way you did it.

    73' de PD5TFT

  • @d3474mas73r I understand the software is now on mods.dk

  • You may have been able to do a software mod to make it transmit (or so it may appear) out of it's designed tolerances but remember the tuned front end will cease to work properly. Not only will it be inefficient off it's designed frequencies but it is quite likely putting out harmonics (that's interference to you) and could therefore be putting someones life at risk - especially if you transmit on 121mhz which is the aircraft band. This band uses AM not the FM of the Wouxun. In EVERY country in

  • so WOUXUN KG-UVD1P locked works on 446mhz?

  • @vitorix24 Locked NOT WORKING THERE AT ALL

  • I have the 'unlock' software and have extended UHF from 400-520, but never bothered to 'open' mine up below 136Mhz as it doesn't RX AM anyway.

  • how can i unlock my wouxun ?

  • i bought mine from 409shop, hong kong as well. KG-UVD1P UU 136-174/420-520. Thanks for the video.

  • i brought this radio online does this radio comes unlock? or how do u unlock it if it's not unlocked?

  • @dmc081 Depends how you bought it. Most come unlocked for 136-174 and 400-470 and if not there is a keyboard routine to unlock it also for the same bands.

  • @simonthewizard i brought my radio on ebay from hong kong the radio is 137-174 400-480Mhz

  • @dmc081 So it is unlocked for all normal uses then, excellent

  • With a controller chip IC and software, ANYTHING is possible...cool radio and the capability. Was only looking at them on ebay today.

Just waiting for the radio purists who will post; transmitting on airband is illegal...

  • @humaxf1 Absolutely true and correct indeed. Airband has now been deleted and re-programmed for another area of the band. The video was made to show the radio did tx there as was asked by email to "prove it" as some had said it but was not proved. Thanks for the post

  • @simonthewizard a bit of experimenting doesn't do any harm. when you said in the video about the firmware, did you flash the radio or is it pot luck as to the firmware installed when you buy one? will be interesting to see how far you can push the limits!

  • @humaxf1 No this was flashed. Original software is J03 and was from 136-174 and 400-470mhz as norm. I have a small program that makes changes to the original although inside the radio the features are there and some others it is a matter i suppose like switching them on for want of a better word.

  • @humaxf1 Also, the software that have now allows RX only and tx from somewhere else. 121-200rx and 144-146 for example. So wider band rx than tx
