Jack update. He is alive and doing Great. Our attorney has filled our Appeals. Jack is living with the the family that we bought him from they bread Yellow labs for years. They are retired and Jack is with some of his family, till we get our day in court. We visit him 3x a week, 60 miles each way.

No Jack has not been put down, new paper article in thiesday the 3rd and friday the 5th, green bay press gazette. We finally got Jack released today, with the help of so many. The city made us pay for his 1 month stay in Bay area Humane facility. Our attorney will have our appeals filled within a week. The police department in Edmonton, Alberta (Canada) is being sued for $10 Million because a SWAT team kicked down the door of the wrong house and used excessive force. Worse has happened. These cops just need to find something better to do with their time.

My best friends had dog sat Jack this Christmas and cannot believe this is happening to him, they had nothing but great experiences with him and they were new to him, he was very sweet to them the whole time. jack was removed from the city for running at large. He is not dangerous, he got out of his fenced in yard 1 too many times. there was an article in sundays newspaper. I've met jack plenty of times. He is a good dog, and it will reflect very negatively on the city of green bay if they end up making the wrong decision.

I use to live 2 houses away from Jack's house, and have seen him very frequently his entire life. Jack has always been very full of life and spunk. He has a family that cares deeply about him, and has been a happy dog his entire life because of that.
Jack has been brought to my new house since I've moved, where he has always showed respect and obedience. Even interacting gently with my sister's 5 pound dog.
I would trust Jack around anyone. He is a loving creature, and is more than happy to show it to everyone he meets. Jack has always been fun to be around, he loves to play with everyone, and his best dog friend Odie (the chocolate lab in the video).
Anyone claiming Jack is in anyway agressive or dangerous is mistaken, or (sadly) being untruthful.
Hey Chris. I truly hope Jack is quickly returned to you so he can spend what's left of his life happy and content- in your fenced in backyard where he can't get out and roam free. Over the past year you folks have shown you are capable of keeping him from roaming. I know this has been an extremely stressful ordeal for all involved. Chasing a rabbit is completely NORMAL dog behavior. Hasn't your dog ever chased a squirrel? Totally normal. It's called "prey drive." Some dogs have more prey drive than others, so while one will just sit on the other side of a fence and bark at a squirrel, some dogs will jump over obstacles to chase the squirrel.
Protection work does not make a dog dangerous. If that were true police dogs could not be trusted, and police dogs go home wit htheir handlers every day and hang out with the family and kids.
Bite work is basically tuggies, and teaches the dogs to target certain (non lethal) areas like the sleeve or armpit, rather than go for the face or throat like an untrained dog acting out of aggression would do.
If you ever met strauss then you would know he wasn't dangerous. in that video he practicing shutzhund and he is biting the "Bite Sleeve" the bite sleeve is the same as a tug toy. do you want to muzzle every dog that plays tug or only the big ones that you find "scary looking"

My understanding is that this dog has not gotten loose since June of 2007. The family has also had the dog neutered, taken to obedience classes, had a 6 foot high fence built, showed the city council a video of the dog being taken for a walk and children running up and petting it, and presented letters from vets and other citizens saying the dog is not dangerous. Given all this family has done it is obvious they care greatly about the animal and Jack should be given another chance IMO.
Hopefully Jack can return home and enjoy what's left of his life in his fenced in backyard- and everyone can mind their own business and get on with their lives. I really hope common sense and compassion can prevail over egos and people trying to save face. Because ultimately there is the life of this dog at stake. Please let this family get on with their lives Green Bay- stop relentlessly harassing them, give them back the dog they love (and which hasn't gotten loose in over a year).
Is the dog registered with the city? I haven't seen that mentioned anywhere. It varies from city to city but dogs can be taken away against owners' will in some instances if there are multiple leash law violations, including improper fencing/leashing of the animal. I'm not sure if it would lead up to and include euthanization though...

I can't imagine my dogs ever escaping from the yard, but then again, I'm super paranoid and go out with them every time... because here there is a "3 strikes" type of law for running at large... you lose your dog after the third time they escape... very scary.

i had Jack's owner come into my work and hand me a flyer saying that he was taken and that he was a very friendly dog, i watched this and almost cried... my only question is, why do they deem him dangerous?.. its like we only have 1 side of the story here. :\

Jack is still in the Bay Area Humane Society, waiting, The city filled papers to have him killed on 1/9/09, Waiting to have our day in court. Jack has never hurt anyone, He is 4 and is a pure bread family pet, he has a brother a 8 yr old chocolate lab, that want his bro, playmate back. Attorney is handling case with the city. **My personal experience with Jack**
I use to live 2 houses away from Jack's house, and have seen him very frequently his entire life. Jack has always been very full of life and spunk. He has a family that cares deeply about him, and has been a happy dog his entire life because of that.
Jack has been brought to my new house since I've moved, where he has always showed respect and obedience. Even interacting gently with my sister's 5 pound dog.

I would trust Jack around anyone. He is a loving creature, and is more than happy to show it to everyone he meets. Jack has always been fun to be around, he loves to play with everyone, and his best dog friend Odie (the chocolate lab in the video).
Anyone claiming Jack is in anyway agressive or dangerous is mistaken, or (sadly) being untruthful.

Hey Chris. I truly hope Jack is quickly returned to you so he can spend what's left of his life happy and content- in your fenced in backyard where he can't get out and roam free. Over the past year you folks have shown you are capable of keeping him from roaming. I know this has been an extremely stressful ordeal for all involved. Still waiting for Jack to get released to come home, spent the night at The Green Bay city council meetings, It looks like they are going to let dogs on leashes in all the parks i Green Bay, That is great, most town bane dogs from there oarks,This yellow lab does have a dangerous bone in his body, a huge misstake by Green Bay animal control, It too bad they just cant say sorry and give Jack back to his family, that he has been with since 8 weeks

Chasing a rabbit is completely NORMAL dog behavior. Hasn't your dog ever chased a squirrel? Totally normal. It's called "prey drive." Some dogs have more prey drive than others, so while one will just sit on the other side of a fence and bark at a squirrel, some dogs will jump over obstacles to chase the squirrel.

Protection work does not make a dog dangerous. If that were true police dogs could not be trusted, and police dogs go home wit htheir handlers every day and hang out with the family and kids.
Bite work is basically tuggies, and teaches the dogs to target certain (non lethal) areas like the sleeve or armpit, rather than go for the face or throat like an untrained dog acting out of aggression would do.

If you ever met strauss then you would know he wasn't dangerous. in that video he practicing shutzhund and he is biting the "Bite Sleeve" the bite sleeve is the same as a tug toy. do you want to muzzle every dog that plays tug or only the big ones that you find "scary looking"

yes yes give them there dog back please, not only are they missing Jack, but our chocolate Lab has not been the same since Jack got taken illegally. wisc statue 174.02 says that the dog has to serious injure a person or another animal at least 2x for them to be able to put a dog down, Jack never hurt anyone once moreless 2x or a serious,, well time for bed. thanks Mccain

My understanding is that this dog has not gotten loose since June of 2007. The family has also had the dog neutered, taken to obedience classes, had a 6 foot high fence built, showed the city council a video of the dog being taken for a walk and children running up and petting it, and presented letters from vets and other citizens saying the dog is not dangerous. Given all this family has done it is obvious they care greatly about the animal and Jack should be given another chance IMO.

Hopefully Jack can return home and enjoy what's left of his life in his fenced in backyard- and everyone can mind their own business and get on with their lives. I really hope common sense and compassion can prevail over egos and people trying to save face. Because ultimately there is the life of this dog at stake. Please let this family get on with their lives Green Bay- stop relentlessly harassing them, give them back the dog they love (and which hasn't gotten loose in over a year).

Is the dog registered with the city? I haven't seen that mentioned anywhere. It varies from city to city but dogs can be taken away against owners' will in some instances if there are multiple leash law violations, including improper fencing/leashing of the animal. I'm not sure if it would lead up to and include euthanization though...

It seems the authorities in Green Bay were relentless in making Chris' family endure this nightmare. Were they ever willing to seriously entertain his side of things? It's discouraging the authorities in Green Bay chose to treat a citizen with such utter contempt- as if he was running a dog fighting ring. And was this witch hunt all based on the word of just one angry household and a dog catcher?

This is certainly unfortunate for poor Jack. I can't imagine my dogs ever escaping from the yard, but then again, I'm super paranoid and go out with them every time... because here there is a "3 strikes" type of law for running at large... you lose your dog after the third time they escape... very scary.

The funny thing is we have maybe a dozen yellow labs all in our neiborhood, and they all look so much alike. so many of the people are bull shitting you, because no one is talking about Jack on those other sights. I have spent time taking to aspca, and they know my case well, and are 100% behnd me. but legaly they cant post pro's and con on dog issues that are in the legal system..Jacks owner

Good luck. After all you guys have done to try and appease the city (not to mention the money you have spent- building a fence, having the dog neutered, taking it to obedience training, hiring a lawyer, etc)- for them to do this is downright horrific. The city officials in Green Bay should be ashamed for what they are putting your family through. I honestly don't know how they live with themselves. As someone below said, my prayers are with you guys. Let's hope common sense prevails.

Yeah the dog didn't even pee on the cops tires (like he should have). That's a shame, those Labs are that way, free sprits, they get so happy their mind goes numb and they freakin' run. Mostly they could use some obedience training if nothing else. But fitting punishment? Hell no!The lawyer should petition the Judge to get Jack some training so he doesn't bust out anymore. I am so sorry to hear all this. I feel just terrible for you. I can't believe you have a 6 foot high fence to keep him in and they still did this. You need to contact the woman's boss and RAISE HELL. Call everyone you know until Jackson is free. I'm so depressed thinking about this. From the two videos he seems like a really sweet dog. I've had labs most of my life and they are the best. I don't mean to offend anyone, nor am I agreeing with the actions of either party, but I have to ask if anyone actually knows the circumstances in which this dog was seized. We don't see anything before, or leading up to the taking of the dog, and everyone assumes it was done un-lawfully or without reason.

They had a legal right under the constitution to refuse the police of Seizing their (unfortunately and sadly defined as) Property (God I hate saying that word to a dog) without a warrant to search and seize evidence. They should have accepted getting arrested, because they could then use the constitution to free themselves and take the cops to court and sue the butts off of them!
