Hi thanks for the great video, I just bought a Saiga SGL24 (NJ Legal) it does not cum with a muzzle break but you can have one in NJ just not a flash suppressor. For some reason I can't get the thread protecter off I don't no if it will cum off or if it is threaded at all and will take a muzzle break. Can't find any info on the SGL24 If you have any suggestions or answers I would really appreciate it. Thanks John

The Saigas are "sporterized" because section 922r of the Gun Control Act makes it illegal to import "non-sporting" semi auto rifles. Or to assemble a "non-sporting" semi auto from more than 10 imported parts. A pistol grip is considered by the gun control act to make the gun "not readily adaptable to sporting purposes"

i would say this and the arsenal aks are true prolly the only russian aks you can get brand new in the us. oh and fuck 922r. you cant beat this rifle 320 for one new plus 20 for a bullet guide and trim the catch and you can use normal ak mags. a deal that cant be beat.

@C172Pilotdude On an AK, the bullet guide is rivetted into the bottom of the front trunion. On a Saiga, the bullet guide is a part of the magazine. There are commercially available drop-in bullet guides you can install into a Saiga, to allow AK-47 magazines

@robertsj12 the gun is imported by a US company so it has US parts already inside inorder to be imported...but i might be wrong

the rifles come from russia (izhmash is the company) they are legally imported in a sporter configuration, but adding US parts allows them to accept certain things like hi cap mags and pistol grips. Read up on law 922r for further guidance. Saigas are popular and easy to convert, 922r can get tricky with some other types of imports though....ps- Saigas are awesome

Good Video! I have come to the conclusion that not to many "AK-47" fans know about Saiga. I have shopped around wanting a "true Russian". All i found were chopped variants. For $350 bucks you get a "TRUE RUSSIAN AK". Love it, although tired of trying to explain it IS made in Russia to guys who are to set in there ways of chopped up variants, from across the globe, that cost 3x the price!!! But I have a regular pre-ban 30rd mag that I use with it and it works just fine... what is with the not using regular mags? That's a negative, Cali legals cant have any kind of pistol grip as the one in the vid is considered to be, must be a 1 piece stock without even a thumb hole and with a 10 rd mag

You can have the pistol grip and stock but you'll have to do some butchering on the mag release to make it so you need a took to release it which I would never do to my AK.

Nice Saiga, I've got a 12 and many friends shoot the .308 version. I used and love the skeleton stock, but you should seriously consider the FCG conversion. The change in balance and trigger feel is amazing!

Not entirely legal... for it to fit into the stupid 922r laws, you need to replace one more piece with a US made part... the 30 round mags count as 3 out of 14 parts... I have the same gun, same stock, different US made 30 round mags... i replaced the foregrip. Easiest way to do it, i figure.

You need to return it from its current sporterized setup to the original AK-47 style setup, WAY cooler.

Also put in a bullet guide and grind the mag latch so you can use standard AK 30rd mags.

Thanks for the review. I just picked up one of these yesterday for $450. I was eyeballing the arsenal they had but it was $950 and had a saiga receiver also. Didn't make much sense to spend $500 more. How does this saiga 7.62 compare to your arsenal and polish tantral? I imagine it doesn't compare to the wasr. Did you have to zero the saiga in at all?

the saiga and arsenal accuracy wise would be the best. the tantal to me feels just as well built as the them also. i didnt have to do any adjusting with the saiga. i have a genuine PSOP scope that i was thinking about mounting on the saiga rail to see what kind of groups i can get with it at 100 yards. i got the scope with my Romanian PSL 54-C 7.62x54r and might just use it on the saiga because its just been sitting around because i have a higher power scope for the PSL.
