Great tech. I vary the position of my arm sometimes I reach across my opponents neck after I go to the side. Idk works either way. As far as that argument goes. Thai wins at a distance and jj wins up close. Kicks get countered by takedowns and a shoot is countered by a knee. Try using both you'll find it's even deadlier when combined.
