  • The few times that charlie ever spoke were the most amazing i mean look at this speech he is so rite

  • Wow. So powerful it's hard to believe this was made over 70 years ago. Thank you Charlie Chaplin for such aweinspiring words!

  • Chaplin later wrote that he spent close to a month writing this speech, to make certain that every word was worthwhile, and that no one could ignore the message of the speech.

  • El mejor mensaje qu he escuchado. Charly es grande e inmortal. Cuanta verdad en pocas palabras.

  • I can't stop watching the end of this film. It's so beautiful.

  • <33333

  • I was half expecting him to say something silly just to make people laugh (not the that speech of the "nazi" wasn't ridicule the regime enough just by pointing out the truth about it) and I was obviously wrong, I am really impressed by what he said, it's definitely an amazing speech

  • Charlie was a prophet!

  • Thank you for posting this awesome speech. Charlie Chaplin is beyond amazing.

  • One of the greatest things I've seen.

  • im 18 and think this is amazing, I wish more people nowadays knew of this speach or just chaplin in general.

and also, the chair part at the beginning is funny as hell haha

  • @dwildhockey24b no one cares how old you are, doesnt mean you have a hidden level of dept within you, might aswel ask for a fucking thumb's up

  • i just keep watching this video

  • Just beautiful. Chaplin was a genius of our times. He never fails to make me smile, laugh, cry. What beautiful irony.

  • Thanks so much!

  • I love Charlie Chaplin. This is one of the Greatest Films of All Times.....

  • one of the best speech every made i just keep watching this video

  • Thise is one of the few scenes that realy gets to me.

  • now if i hear this is think chaplin should have had a run for president he would have done great. only mr chaplin could talk about something in such a way.

Hitler was an evil dictator he should have been like charlie. then he would have been one of historys most prized people instead of the most hated men of all agree?

  • @CallicoJackracham you missed the point, he's arguing against leaders, so he would never put himself forward.

  • only Charlie Chaplain could show this kind of emotion

  • Weird seeing him talk

  • to think, this was in 1940!

  • It has been 70 years and his words are just as relevant as they were back then.

  • True to life and civilization : )

  • broadsword...he actually said he "COULD not have made the film", not "WOULD not". In any case, I'm glad he did.

  • timeless speech from one of the best movies of all time!!

Thanks Mr. Chaplin, wherever you may are.

  • What a great speech!! The best!!

Ok it's naive but it's so beautiful

Would be so incredible people think that.

  • @AndyInsuasti

I agree that this is one of the best speeches, for me i would go so far as to say in almost all of the theatre and film history.

But please explain your point to it being naive, i do not think so and am interested in the arguments for your point.

  • @AndyInsuasti

It's NOT! naive. Gene Roddenberry had THAT!...of the future. Such is the basis for the United Federation of Planets.

Such is the VISION! of democracy for a republic. It is our cynicism that causes us to resign it as "naive".

It is the vision of CHRIST! of BUDDHA! of MOHAMMED! Of the AMERICAN FOUNDING FATHERS!

Don't lose hope, faith, charity: these three abide. Gandhi said, "BE! the change you want to see."

  • @dakotagerman1 Be the change you want to see, do you think it'll catch on?

  • @dakotagerman1 Be the change you want to see, what a lovely attitude.

  • fight against illuminati!

  • Its weird that Chaplin admitted in his autobiography that he would not have made the film if he had been aware of the true extent of the Nazis' crimes.

  • @broadsword303 back then people had a sense of humility and shame, at least some did. We live in an age where almost no one apologizes today, and if so, it's usually for convenience sake. Chaplin was a great human being.

  • I just keep watchiing this video. its really great

  • He quotes scripture because it's relevant to the majority of the public. Lessons are to be learnt in many publications, the bible is one of these. He is quoting something that is relevant to the masses and fits the situation at the time.

  • Strange how he can quote scripture, yet claimed to be agnostic. If he didn't believe, he would not have mentioned it.

  • @coomason5

I am a die-hard atheist, and I'll find myself either quoting scripture or at least using heavy biblical illusions from time to time. As much as I disbelieve in the bible, that does not mean that it isn't useful for illustrating certain points. Also, it's extremely relevant to the people I'm usually talking to, as it was for Chaplain in his day.

  • @bromordra Very well said!!

  • @bromordra Well said.

  • @bromordra , I am a die-hard EX-atheist who found GOD. this message by Charlie Chaplin should be heard world-wide regardless of how old this film is.

  • Ppl understand what theywant to hear. I must say so far this is the best speech i have ever heard.

  • Chaplin should of won the Best Actor not Jimmy Stewert

  • For this speach I would give Chaplin the Oscar for Best Actor. I know Jimmy Stewart should of won for It's a Wonderful Life and Vertigo.

Also Chaplin should have have had won Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.

  • wow - such powerful words so long ago which are very reflective today!!!

  • Berserk?? Dont you think that these were f***** berserk times?? I think i should start every Day of my life with this speech, to remind me how to act, live and think. Everyone should do this!! Timeless Ideas brought in a passionate way....got damn goosebumps everywhere...Heil Chaplin!!!

  • lol, good speech, he goes a little berserk though

  • se me anuda el guerguero :')

  • I named my daughter Hannah after this and a Woody Allen movie. In terms of cinema, which I am a buff, it simply doesn't get any better...

  • amazing.

  • if this speech could be broadcast across the world in all languages I wonder if anyone would understand and maybe take actions after the speech was finished???????

  • It's like God is speaking through Charlie Chaplin.

  • The finale of his speech, to Hannah: if only if only he was right. :(

  • charlie's beitrag zur finanzkrise. :)

  • Genius...

  • WOW...........

  • this was made in the 40's, and fits in todays reality... genius

  • judging from what i know about humanity's past i think it will fit all of this centuries' reality. probably much longer. if were unlucky it will fit reality up to the point of mankinds final downfall.

    what do you think?

  • genius and beautiful. that nothing has changed makes me cry.

  • @rrdalcin It's kind of sad that it still does, we should have been able to make the world a better place by now, one thinks.

  • OMG, when he is talking to Hannah it brings tears to my eyes every single time! Charlie Chaplin was so awesome!!!!

  • I have been searching for a subject for my last paper in grad school. I just found it. It was America's great loss when Mr Chaplin was refused re-entry into this country. Shame on us.

Magnificent speech from a brilliant mind and a great heart.

  • wow wow wow! every time that gives me chills

  • WOW! I've never really watched any of Chaplins films but I have to say the ending of this one was excellent!

  • @01jaybird do yourself a favor and see some. City Lights is the best, in my opinion. Again, the final scene will have you sobbing.

  • Thanks so much for uploading this awesome ending to a controversial film for its time.

  • great speech..he`s totally right..

  • love this sceene

  • anarchy with only good people

fairy tale or just hard work?

  • he sounds like a damn commie! but seriously....it was a good speech!

  • You know what?

i think the world needs someone who has a little bit of Charlie Chaplin and a little bit of Hitler.

Someone who could brainwash us all, like only Hitler knew how to, but with the right ideas... Ideas of love, freedom and hope, like Charlie's!

  • what

  • This speech is really impressive

  • my last post was referring the first guy. garisch i think his name was.

  • thats sounds like pragamtism to me. any pragmatist is a facsist

  • One of the best speeches I ever heard.

  • Without a doubt one of the great speeches.

  • i agree chaplin rules!!!

  • What an amazing scene! I just wonder, though, if god really existed, why he didn't put that kind of speech in the lips of Hitler, instead of all that hatred? All religious people should think about that, including the late Chaplin...

  • Its called free will

  • then God is either not omniscient or omnibenevolent

or just simply non-existent, yep that must've been it

  • well, i believe God only puts you in the earth... your ideas and actions are your responsability! Like Achilles6454 said, it's called free will...

You choose to be a bad or good person!

It's a little delusional to think that God is the responsable for all murderes, pedophiles, rapists and corrupt politicians!

    And no, i'm not religious.

    :)

  • spot on my friend....good and evil come from the Recipient not the source...electricity has no say over what device is plugged in, and the device has no say over how u utilise it....

  • BRAVO ! ! !

  • Awesome last scene of one of the best movie.
