  • I've had no problems with my XPS M1710 for 4 years. It's only now, for some 2 months ago that it broke down. No more video and external video is not working great either, starts but with faults.

I've brought this laptop everywhere, in an ordinary backpack and must say it's a very strong machine and I had great fun on it gaming. Anyway, it's broken now and I'll try to fix it... but after 4 years of travel every day, I am impressed!! Not everybody has the same trouble here. It's a great machine!

  • its ur screen iv seen it b4, its either u need new drivers or reinstall them or you need to replug ur display. you can do it by lifting the front panel (you will see a opening hole an inch away from 'page up' button) lift it and find the screen cable should have a ribbon on it and push it down. if it doesnt work unplug and replug it in.

  • It definitely wasn't the screen or the drivers - the screen and cable were replaced three times and fitted correctly, every one showed the identical error. It wasn't the drivers either as the same error occurred on a different hard drive with a different OS build and different drivers

  • I THENK IS THE GRIFEC CARD

  • I don't, the graphics card was replaced five times and each time the problem was still there.

  • worst thing I ever did, buy a xps m1710. my laptop blinks at me....

  • it could be your lcd cable that connects the lcd panel to the motherboard. you may want to check it to see if it connected properly and if it is you may want to replace the cable first b/c it will be much cheaper.

  • Cable was fine - I think it had four or five different ones fitted over the course of its repairs. Dell have finally given up on the machine (they fitted yet another graphics card to it) and replaced it with an M1730 which works fine.

  • Actually the only reason the video is posted here is for Dell to watch it as getting support for this has been tricky. The issue has taken so long to resolve the machine is out of warranty but still it goes on - it's had three screens, four graphics cards, three motherboards, new hard drive, ram and guess what they want to replace next...the motherboard(!) and the processor despite not having the latter. They refuse to replace the machine as well, bad choice of machine
