If you live in Cali you can not swap engines, california you basically can not change anything from stock if it involves the engine.
But I believe the Ranger came with a v6 so I believe you can put a V6 in it because the ranger had that option, and it has to be that motor ford decided to use for the Ranger.
Also for the nose diving part that has to do with weight distribution, that is why all Trophy Trucks have their engines tucked into the cab quite a bit to equal the weight.
Hey, I have a 98 Ranger 3.sl0w and eventually I want to do an engine swap and make it a prerunner. You seem to know what your doing so I thought I would ask you a few questions. Would it be better to do a somewhat built 4.0 or stock 5.0 engine swap? If putting a 302 in a Ranger, when you jump it would it nose dive? Is the 5.0 much heavier than the 4.0? What would you recommend? Thanks in advance.
@getrdone52 5.0 dude. if where you live will allow you to still register it. I have the 4.0 in mine, its a gas hog and has no balls. plus there are very few real performance parts you can get for it . the 5.0 you can find parts all day for really cheap, you will most likely get better milage than the 4.0 and have more power
@johnnyboy922 That's what I was leaning towards. If my MPG's are gunna go down, might as well make it worth it. I'm just worried it it will be too heavy and nose dive on a jump. I guess could help balance it out by a cage and some spare tires in the back. I don't think ill have emission problems in Colorado.
@getrdone52 it would be interesting to know the actual weights. I know the 5.0 is longer. so if you move the tranny and everything back.... its alot of work either way if you wanna launch through the air. you may be better off slapping a turbo on whatever you have and changing the differential gears to get more torque. that is a pretty realistic option costing maybe two grand tops
@johnnyboy922 What would cost two grand? I bet a turbo alone cost over $2,000 and gears maybe $200. Adding a turbo is a ton of work, but worth it haha. A 302 turbo would be the most bad ass thing ever.
@getrdone52 you could do a turbo for under 2 grand if you shop around and are handy. 302 turboed would be so sick. anyhow best of luck with it whatever you end up doing. rangers are the best
You could almost mistake the vehicles in this video as RC cars,I had to look again when I started watching this! I suppose it's the CB ariel that makes them look like RC cars, they sound similar too
Time for a different steering set up.
