The tune is on the NewLanders CD "Born of Fire" and is credited to Andrew Kovaly on the CD. I play the violin on the recording.
Here is the note we placed on the album:
I Lie in the American Land (by Andrew Kovaly) Andrew Kovaly moved to Pittsburgh from Slovakia in 1899. He worked in the steel mills in McKeesport until his death. He wrote many songs, including this one, which he describes in his own words: I was a young foreman at a Bessemer mill here in McKeesport. A very good friend of mine..
This song was based upon a song called I Lie in The American Land written by my great Andrew E. Kovaly from McKeesport, PA in the early 1900's. Pete Seeger visited our family to research this song and get permission from my grandfather to record it. Bruce never gave any credit to my great grandfather for the song, which is unfortunate. Nonetheless, it's a great song.
i love this museum...great song as well..

I like this very individual interpretation of Andrew and Pete's wonderful song.Your violin compliments the vocals beautifully.
Your video itself does the song true justice ... thoughtfully and tastefully put together.
Thank you for a great upload, and Andrew's Slovakian friend and family are in our thoughts all these years later. The spirit of humanity is one.
Bless you and them.
