Johnny, most insightful, however what if I want the pro res files to store on an external hard drive? That just puts them into my FCP project, but i wanted it to just convert all the clips to an external so I can keep them or copy them or whatever in the end format of Prosres.
@kthapar01 Yes, you can do that. You would have to move your final cut documents folder to your external. You would then have to reset your scratch disk and system settings to the new location.
@gabbo13 It just so happens that I uploaded a video on how to do that. It is called: How to Log and Capture HD Footage with Final Cut Pro 7. Thanks for watching!
@MrFucktardproduction So did it work? Not a problem. You just happen to catch me at a good time before starting my day. I usually try to answer as much as I can. Sometimes I have time in the morning and sometimes I do not. Thanks for watching and subscribing. I am by no means a Final Cut Pro editor. A channel I recommend is the Final Cut King. GLHF.
@MrFucktardproduction I think the problem might be that you don't know where your scratch disk is. Cick on Final Cut Pro>System Settings>Scratch Disk Tab> Make sure that the Video Capture/Video Render/Audio Render is checked and click on Set. Now choose a location with the most space. I usually like to choose the Final Cut Documents Folder in Documents but a lot of people like to use and external firewire drive.
Thank you SO much, I really appreciate it! I have the same camera and I couldn't find a way to save my .mts files to my desktop in orden to open them with Final Cut. Now it's all solved, thanks a lot!
Just another question, every time I want to import a video and save it in my Hard Disk I'll have to copy the "AVCHD" folder and replace the oldest one , right?
i forgot.. How do you disconnect the camera from your Mac? I'm asking this because I can't quit the message that appears on the camera's LCD "Do not disconnect USB cable.. etc" Is there any way to disconnect it safely? Or its just the same to unplug the cable with the camera connected to the Mac. Thanks !
@Educs Make sure you eject the drives that are mounted on your desktop first. After that you can turn off the camera or disconnect. The same goes if you were on a Windows Machine. Eject the drive as if it were a USB flash drive.
@johnnythegeek1 After I eject the drives the message on my camera won't quit. Is it ok if I disconnect after I eject drives? Even if the message isn't gone?
@Educs yeah its ok. I do it all the time. There is no data being written after the drives have been ejected. That warning it there because it detects that it is plugged into something powered.
@Educs You can rename the folders to anything you want. You can call them AVCHD1, AVCHD2, Event Footage1, Party Footage 1, and so on. When you open log and transfer and choose a folder or drag and drop a folder into it, it will automagically figure it all out and recognize the .mts files. Just don't change the fie structure inside that AVCHD folder and you're golden. Thanks for watching! I have another video on how to capture DSLR footage using Mpeg Stream Clip.
Thank you so much. I'm flying in FCP now even though i'm barely barely qualified to use a camcorder. Plus luck would have it that you have the same camera as me.
@yourashero Thanks for watching! if you ever get a DSLR and shoot video for that I have another video on how to get that footage into FCP. Just go to my channel and do a search for DSLR.
Thanks man, I've got an editing exam in a few minutes and I forgot how to log and transfer properly XD
