That is so right. Hendrix may not have had the chops of today's guitarists, but he invented not just his own style, but a whole new genre, a whole new technique, a whole new instrument. Like cyberglad said, he didn't have guitarists to base this off of, he took a huge risk and created an entirely new sound, and it can be found in almost all modern guitar, even jazz.

Hendrix has something that shredders like Yngwie doesn't have. It's something called rhythm and feel. Yngwie can do all those sweeping arpeggios, but you can only play so fast. Hendrix's rhythms and solos were great.
