i found out a while back that i have Schizotypal Personality Disorder. (personality disorder that is characterized by a need for social isolation, anxiety in social situations, odd behavior and thinking, and often unconventional beliefs.) i basically just want to be by myself playing games at home all the time :P
The best way you can avoid being manipulated is stay away from people who never give you a chance to say something, also if you're being told that doesn't work, -- walk away--
Look at what passes for an intellectual and mental health professional in the U.S. How could this man receive a degree? If this man is representative of the product of higher learning, then Americans are stupid, uneducated, and primitive.
This video actually really made sense to me. I guess people who aren't in relationships with masters of emotional manipulation don't understand, but I do. I actually married one. My husband is the most skilled manipulator I know. He has actually used every tactic mentioned in this video so subtly that I never really knew he was doing it. He is a charmer to the max, and even my friends and family bought into his manipulation.
How can any body be stupid enuff to get mairraded theys day all that child drama and waste of time mind games DON'T BE STUPID GUY'S AND GET MAIRRADED.
i think alot of these things are also possible truths and too much of these thoughts are too vague and could get u in trouble trying to use them as arguments
This guy is trying to manipulate the audience to vote. As if liberals arent playing victim, vilifying their opponents, guilt tripping, lying, playing dumb and totally diverting.
There are some people such as myself who does not care about control or power. I truly love others. I have been abused by many narcissists/sociopaths and my hyperviglance that I have because of the abuse has many times been seen has manipulation when in fact it is PTSD. Could you please do videos on the effects of those who have been abused Especially the disabled. I have a TBI. That was used by the abusers to put the blame on me.
I agree that all people do manipulate. Parents manipulate kids into doing homework, burshing teeth, cleaning room. My mother however, was a parent whos manipulation was part of a larger pattern of emotional and verbal abuse and this is what we are speaking of here. The main difference seems to be, whos interest she was acting in, mine, or her own? I can assure you that at no time did my mother allow anyone elses interests, or feelings, to supercede her own.
does people not realize everyone manipulates nowadays to survive? that to get what we want we have to be stronger than the other people. thats how the world works. in everything we see and hear. so for someone to say "o manipulators are bad and we cant be taken advantage of anymore." are really saying. help me i dont know how to do it myself and everyone gets me. someone teach me. its about being better than someone else to get the job or to get that position of power. all manipulators. \
@Escrima88 life can very often be a chess game where we try to force our opponent's next move. But if we choose to see the world as a chess game then we run the risk of misjudging the true characters of others who are led by other things besides hidden agendas. Nonetheless, I feel where you're coming from.
Are you trying to manipulate me into thinking you are cool? or is this the way you usually talk? I would have apreciated less air and more substance, I missed some decent explanation of covert manipulation, tony soprano meets james bond .. im still clueless
@flauwegeit I hear you... but understand that the point isn't to detail everything but to point viewers in the direction where they can get more information if they feel so inclined. If you really want to know more, I suggest reading the book mentioned in the episode.
As for the way I talk, I'm from NJ... and try as I might to hide my accent, it comes out from time to time so I like to have fun with it. Just a byproduct of urban living I guess.
This just happened to me. Not for long though. I was wise to him. We'd only been talking for 2 wks. and he said I look stunning in all my photos but this one that I had up was "too posy" and I look "hookerish" I called him on it. He didn't remember *Eye roll* He acted horrified that I didnt trust him and said he couldn't believe I would think that way about him. Highly suspect. Kicked him to the curb.
Ahaha. Yes. I am quite familiar with PsycInfo. It's been my best (and worst) friend in trying to come up with relevant research for my thesis. A lot of the results really don't touch on manipulation susceptibility as a well-defined construct.
But thanks for the book tip! It looks like it might be right up my alley! I'll definitely check it out!
Great Video! I'm interested in the psychology of manipulation, and was wondering if you knew of any researchers other than Dr Simon who have done research in the area, especially in relation to victim characteristics?
A quick search on PsycInfo (an academic database) turns up results from researchers who study sexual assault, domestic violence, & crime. If you have access to such a database, you should look into it... just be warned, if you're not used to journal literature, the reading WILL be difficult & very boring.
One person I know of is someone I've read about in NY: Dr. Robin Stern. She wrote an interesting book a couple of years ago called "The Gaslight Effect" about manipulation/manipulators.
