  • After carefully listening to this song in clinical trials, my data show conclusively that the Smiths are far more effective than Placebo. The only notable side effect appears to be involuntary movement, typified by tics like the subject (me) snapping their fingers, tapping their feet or breaking out into dance. No need to ask your doctor if the Smiths are right for you, just go get their albums.

(These statements have been review by the FDA and they all pretty much agree that the Smiths rock.)

  • this song is about me

  • "Now i know how Joan of Arc felt"

  • when I was a kid I though this song was about the charter in the "Smurfs" called "Bigmouth" ...lol

  • Johnny Marr is a fantastic guitarist.

  • I definitely prefer Smiths' version but there's a tiny part of me that likes Placebo's version. I love this band so much

  • @EMABand1 I wanted it to be a girl too XDD

  • Lol my mate posted this to my wall for my bday

  • Isn't that supposed to be James Dean as the cover star? And I wonder why they decided to leave off the "The" in "The Smiths." So many seemingly unanswerable questions. *sigh*

  • 7 people should be bludgeoned in their beds.

  • Did Johnny Marr do most of the songwriting or was it equal between Marr and Morrisey?

  • @JordanHenshall if I'm not mistaken Marr wrote all the music and Morrisssey penned all the lyrics... I don't know that distinction blurred much while they were together

  • @Hapworth1924 And it blurred again when Mike Joyce and Andy Rourke sued them in the nineties because they claimed to have written a part of the music.

  • @JordanHenshall it was about 60/40 in morrisseys favour, however there are about 15+ songs where marr wrote all the lyrics and every piece of music, shoplifters of the world is 100% marrs work

  • desde minha juventude curto este grupo, hoje tenho 40 anos.

  • tit nurse phil 2 lagh at u happy job huntingx happy feet mable house u ecti of

  • Orgasmic <333

  • @SLAPnPOP726 what people say over the internet is rarely true,so if someone thinks it's stupid someone dislikes this,he says he wants to kill the "basterds".i think it's just a way to stand out between everyone else(and if someone really means this kind of talk he should go see a psychiatrist...)

  • Pure Heaven

  • Johnny Marr's the reason I ever pick up a guitar.

  • Why do people insist on saying that they hate the people who dislike the songs that they find good? Are Smiths fans really that fucking sophomoric?! It's stuck-up twats like that which fuel the Mozzer's contempt for most people, you know.

  • I would like to run over 7 losers with a bus, then put it in reverse and do it again!!!

  • @Vavazelus it's just personal opinion.

  • big mouth !!!! strikes again.......yesssssss.......halte die fresse !!

  • i'd like to invite 7 ppl over to my home. i'm serving coffee and, ahem, cheesecake! really!

  • ONLY bad thing about this son are the chipmunk vocals at 0:38, for example

  • @MrStarbucks1989 the vocals are morrissey's voice sped up

  • @uzickimajmunac yes!

  • @uzickimajmunac Meh, can't agree on this one

  • Balance and Composure cover this really well.

    awesome band, awesome song.

  • still an epic track even now?? its only even more epic now.. u know what i mean ;-

  • The last silent minutes at the end of the song are made on purpose in order to think about how fucking great the song was.

  • the 7 people who dislike this should be shot and know fuck all about music

  • holy crap, i think Johnny Marr took every possible progression of the key of E and made it sophisticated and incredible. i would have never thought of an awesome progression riff like this song's. its simply catchy and wonderful.

  • I love Placebo's version of this.

  • @1992WillowWebb i HATE placebos version of this. it's nasally as all hell.

  • I have no words for this, I'm going mad! This song is perfect in all sorts of ways, it's pure perfection.

    0:49 - 0:50 --> Uhhohhh. Adorable.

  • dig mouth

  • The Smiths made a great cover of this song

  • @003ralf003caster the smiths did the original...

  • @KazakageoftheSand lol i know

  • @003ralf003caster that comment was so bad that i don't even know what to say

  • Mike Joyce's drumming around 2:00 is some of the best stuff I have ever heard.

  • tem em jogos de video game

  • Placebo do a great cover of this song!

  • @zirstoren Placebo ruined this song

  • @MilkoLouka no way! their cover is very good imo

  • @MilkoLouka they are just fans who performed a song they love and I think they did nice

  • The Dearhounds do a great cover of this song....

  • Who is the girl singing in the background? I freakin love her voice I wanna steal it!!

  • @EMABand1 that's not a girl. that's morrisey's vocals warped. he liked to mess around with it like that, so he put it in there.

  • @EMABand1

It is Morrissey, pitched. He might be on helium! Ooh.

  • @EMABand1

It is Morrissey, pitched. He might be on helium! Ooh.

  • Great song:D

  • all smiths songs have such strong bass portions....makes me ejaculate through all orifices...

  • fav smiths song

  • It's official, after hearing that opening guitar part, I've heard enough. I am now officially a Smiths fan. I would like to thank 500 Days of Summer for initially introducing me, and I'd like to thank the Smiths for pulling me in and keeping me in.

  • @BritishInvasion91 Yea, this (together with Panic and Ask) were the songs that introduced me to The Smiths too. I though 'the singer' sang a bit out of tune sometimes, but at the same time I could hear that the guitarist and the rest of the band was something else, it didn't sound familiar to what I heard at the time.

  • One of the greatest songs! It's so fun to play on guitar! :D

  • just bought an 8 TRACK from the states ,and a couple of brand new blank tapes ,and i think ,i will honour it with with this gentleman's music, very fitting indeed ,!

  • I just got a second degree burn while making cookies. Now I know how Joan of Ark felt...

  • One of the best songs i have heard in my life.

  • this song reminds me of my ma slowly dying in the hospital brings bak good n bad memories every time i hear this song i think of her then the hospital on a dark cold rainy night R.I.P SARA ELENA CARDENAS-NOVELO

    -SARA MICHELLE CARDENAS NOVELO

  • @percabethluver1

Hey there, sorry to hear of your loss. What a deep deep song to remember it by

  • HUNKY DORRY MUSICHALL,,,reminds me of better times:

  • Amazing song, although I can't help but wonder why it says: "Her Roman nose", when she was French.

  • @ThatChurchill

The Roman nose describes a large arching nose, not ethnicity.

  • Bigmouth, huhuh hoh haha!

  • am havin a smiths youtube night

  • Ahhaughh! How sweet is this!

  • my fav!!!!!

  • YAY IM LEARNING ABOUT JOAN OF ARC in fact im doing history take-home-test right now O.O

  • How stupid I was all my teenage years!I'd been listening to the Smiths' best songs not actually realising it.Well I knew it was Morrissey singing but I didn't pay much attention to anything else but the song itself.I didn't care about names in those days.I guess sound was more important.

  • reminds me of my ex girlfriend.

  • i love the backup singing the most. x

  • @deathbycookies

I think Morrisey did all the backing vocals on this,

  • @kapo10wong

    no,look at the credits ,

  • @luisparty The high-pitched voice in the background is actually Morrissey's, but credited as Ann Coates. Ancoats is the area of Manchester from which the band originated.

  • @Citrohan

Is that right? I always wondered. How do you know, btw?

  • @CurtOntheRadio

there is a Wiki entry for Big Mouth and its mentioned in there, but I actually found out about it years ago in the book Morrisey & Marr: The Severed Alliance

  • Comment removed

  • Now i know how Joan of Arc felt....and the flames rose to her roman nose and her walkman started to melt. Great lyrics!!!!!

  • We need the Smiths in the 21st century . Shame they broke up .

  • @beadlesbaby Try and convince Johnny Marr.

  • Woo, <3 RICKY!! I'M A KP NUT 2008 - 2010

  • I'm in love with Ann Coates

  • My girlfriend just broke up with me because I said I'd like to spit in her face. And not during sex because she would like that. Bigmouth strikes again and now I know how Joan of Arc felt.

  • awesome song !!!!!

  • Reminds me of a DJ friend from 1987, who is now a vegetable from a car crash. Miss you Adam.

  • 3 people missed the like button

  • @romerezeboy ME?xD

  • I love Morrissey's "Lalalalalalalaaa"!

    Just genius.

  • The Best Smiths song without a doubt. I love that line "now I know how Joan of Arc felt as the flames rose to her roman nose and her walkman started to melt"

It's just brilliant and this has some of Morrisey's best yodeling. I couldn't even imagine my life without the Smiths they saved my life and helped me through some dark times. Pity they broke up. Luckily Morrisey's solo albums are great too especially Vauxhall & I and You Are the Quarry.

  • It blasts me back to the 80`s! Some Kind of Timetravelling-awesome!

  • I hate how because of 500DaysOfSummer, now everyone loves The Smiths, and Ringo Starr and all the shit.

  • well placebo didnt only copy the song, they addapted it to their own style. gotta say i like the original version wat more!

  • @pixithemis The Smiths (more specifically Moz's voic) is just something you can't really cover well. Unless you sing it in the same way, then it just seems like a total rip off and doing it lip service. I love Placebo, but they fell into the same trap others have fallen into when covering The Smiths.

  • sure yeah baby!!!

  • I lover the Placebo's version, cause it's more rock, bur I love The Smiths too:)

  • I love Placebo, but there's no doubt that their version isnt really good. The Smiths version is a masterpiece.

  • Manchesters best with morrisey Jonny Marr!!!

  • simply brilliant ..

  • this is ironic how everyone who has seem this video has probably gotten it from Mr. Gervais's bog (including me).

  • Ricky needs to adopt me.

I come fully grown and therefore require no looking after, cleaning, feeding or attention.

Plus, I won't cry in the middle of the night or crap myself.

    KP- Guide to the future

  • Ricky clearly doesn't suit having kids eh? Judging my the photo's and the highlights of his Christmas.

  • yeah, those pics were so adorable (and I'm not talking about the kids lolx)

Karl Pilkington's got a head like a fucking orange by the way x

  • HILDAAAAA!

  • I love Ricky's pick of music. He always selects a very befitting track.

I wil always think of his signature artist as being Cat Steven's though.

  • Ricky and Morrissey you are so fucking brilliant!

  • Excellent pick Gervais.

  • I reckon we'll blend all our food.

  • As for Placebo's cover, i think there is nothing wrong with their version. On the contrary Brian's voice makes me appreciate the original song even more.

  • i am a placebo lover too but i agree here, the cover is nothing. dont think its really wrong, but just nothing. they didnt change anything really, everyone can copy songs like that. they did a great job with running up that hill or jackie, but this one no. anyway...the smiths r epic! great band!!

  • Boy, do I ever understand the sentiment here. The soundtrack of my life is " Bigmouth Strikes Again. " While there is much to be said for a steadfast holding to non-conformity and ruthlessly honest self-expression, without a massive degree of luck, it'll get you nowhere....but happily!

  • happily unless it leaves you lonely...

  • I'm going to quote you on that, do you mind?

  • Reminds me of the head girl in my Sixth Form...
