Hey, thanks for the video. It walked me through the process perfectly! And took away my fear of doing it. I had to clean and re-clean the focus screen and still have tiny specks of dust. I found out the hard way, you don't use cotton swabs to clean your focus screen or you will scratch it! I will be looking for more informative videos about the Pentax K10d. thanks again
hey i have the pentax k-x and thier is dust inside my viewfijndert and i want to remove the focusing screen to clean it but thier isnt that little tab can u please help me thx
@SilnLuna I'm wanting to get a 50mm Pentax M lens and was thinking about changing my focus screen. Exactly how does it make a difference for manual focusing over the default screen?
a manual focussing screen has 3 features which aid you in manual focus: split focus, a microprism and a hyperbolic matte screen
Split focus is a circle in the centre and when you focus on a straight line, the line will appear 'broken' until the image is in focus, so you can use this to get perfect focus. The microprism works in the same way, the image will appear 'speckled' until it's in focus. The hyperbolic matte means that the image appears very out of focus and then 'snaps' into focus- easy
I have just exchanged mine, and while its quite confortable and easy to do the switching ( thanks for the video ) one has to be a bit carefull about dust particles. I take the lens off and while i am preparing to take the screen off, i place the white cap on the dslr in the meanwhile
It is a lot more fiddly than this makes it seem like. I got dust on my screen. . . Any idea how to get that off? .
The instructions about the metal tab are very unclear, and I would recommend that it be carefully re-shot with enough light, and zoomed focus on that area.
Do not even rub it with a lens cloth. Even that may mark it. Do not rub it with anything. Do not use any fluid, except maybe as a last resort.
Never touch the screen and it will never get greasy - so you should never need to clean it.
Specks of dust: blow off with a large bulb blower, or gently wipe with an Artic Butterfly statically-charged brush (but make sure the brush is absolutely clean).
Excellent instruction. I had lots of dust on my K10D focusing screen and this drive my crazy. By following the step from your video, I got rid of 95% of the dust. Thank you so much.
Excellent Job. Do you know if its the same procedure for a K100D Super? Do you know if it is possible to get instructions of the web for removing the focusing scren? (b/c I want to clean my focusing screen)
Thanks for the information. I had some dust on my screen. Looked at your vidio, did what you said. Took it out and blew the dust off of it and put it back. Now, looks great.
It's an add-on feature. If you feel you want a scale in your viewfinder they have one of those, if you'd like grid lines they have those. Just an option for people who want something different.

Why would i want to change my focusing screen?
It's handy to know, but i'll never touch the thing so why change it?
Is the stock focusing screen of bad quality?
Since you know how to do this, maybe you know some other tips/techniques to get the best out of my K10d?
Greetings from Holland :)

you can change ur focus screen with a katz eye or other make for the split prism, like the old MF focus screens, will change the way you shoot.

Good useful video - though some stronger lighting and closer photography would have showed the inside of the camera better.

thank you for you video, when I try to clean the focus screen, I made a scratch on a corner, that's really sad and immediately order a new one
Now, after watching your video I know how to change it and without damage to it
Thanks a lot!
