I always approach games objectively and unbiased. I can honestly say I judge a game by how much it can keep me engaged. And I give this game a 9/10, I deduct 1 pt cuz of the innefficient menu system.

UI sucks. Graphics suck. Stability sucks (Bethesda QA sucked). Storyline... well, there's probably someone who enjoys it but it was fairly average. Voice acting is mediocre as well. Combat is just one level above Runescape. Roleplaying...is either absent or you just don't care about the choices you have to make. Hardly any innovation or daring surprises. IMO, qualitatively this game was mediocre at best. Definitely no GOTY.

I find it ironic that you rate Skyrim so poorly (each to their own), but give such a terribly weak a** over-view. I'm all good with cussing, but this review is an adolescent curse-fest painted as a review. Skyrim isn't perfect and there is blatant room for improvement, but even with its flaws, the game is one of the most well received RPGs to date. I could go on with personal gripes relating to Skyrim, but I haven't the interest or character count remaining that would be needed...

I own a laptop, so I'm in a position where I put performance way above graphics. I find it hard to believe that he couldn't find more to like about this game, but to each his own I guess. What I completely agree with is the interface. Seriously, using a mouse is hopeless when navigating menus.

this was my 1st elderscrolls game and it will be my last...i bought this for ps3 and its unplayable on ps3...I downloaded the free version of skyrim for pc and played for a couple of hours and just got bored...this game was a major letdown i think...just like ff13

I agree that those bastards at bethesda did a really bad job in terms of graphics and treating the PC base like second class citizens. They really cared more about the consoles so we got a console port.

Unfortunately I must disagree. This game looks much better than the previous iteration (TES IV: Oblivion) in almost every way. I will admit that it was not well optimized for PC and the texture resolutions should be much better but a game is not all about graphics. The game play is great and in line with the rest of the Elder Scrolls series, the audio is fantastic, the environment is beautiful and open. My only complaint is character animations, moments that should be epic can be rather dull.
I don't get how people dislike the graphics. Before I added my graphics mods, I thought the game looked great. Afterwards, I thought they looked fucking awesome.

I wholeheartedly agree with a lot of the comments in this video, you'd think such a major Elder Scrolls title would push the boat out graphically, i mean Oblivion did exactly that, it looked gorgeous on release, but dear god for this day and age it looks horrific close up. I can appreciate the fact they intend you to look at the world as a whole, but my god, this is shocking! The ui aswell, something as basic and simple as this you would thought they would adjust for the PC.
The developer is called Bethesda, not Beseida. Obviously you are right about this being another console focused game, so on PC it doesn't go beyond DX9 graphics features and mid quality textures. The game does have loads of redeeming qualities though. Should only be a year or two for the next gen of console hardware, and then we see the bar raised for game graphics, PC will benefit.

hmm, have you tinkered with your AA? try using external AA through your graphics card. It does wonders to the broken foliage. Though I am waiting for a tessellation pack like in Crysis 2.
People don't play games like Oblivion, Morrowind or Skyrim thinking before hand "OMG I can't wait to see mind blowing graphics". People get Elder Scrolls games for the great storyline and hundreds of hours of great gameplay, if you want pretty go have fun with Battlefield 3 or Crysis 2, I am quite happy playing Skyrim for its great story line and possibilities, loving it too :)

I agree completely. NMC's texture pack for fallout 3 blows this game away. If one guy can make graphics amazing then how come an entire team can't? Creation Engine is a powerful tool. I prefer gameplay over graphics, and mods will fix everything up, If you want better looks. Stay calm. I will buy this game if i have the money :)
You guys must remember, a pc company doesn't care about graphics bring epic, they want all people with all systems to play, and that's what we have here. Also it leaves more room for modders to work their magic, have faith

try to think long term with this. In oblivion there was multiple re-texture mods and visual improvement mods which made oblivion look great. I have no doubt that there will be similar mods. I'm pretty sure there are minor ones already
No one has ever played a game for 100 hours because of the graphics. But they have done it because of a great, immersive game. And Skyrim is a great immersive game.
Having said that, I think the graphics look awesome.

all you people saying gameplay over graphics I agree.. torchlight is a great example BUT.. if you don't know, this a HUGGE open world game that is immersive and should take hours upon hours to complete.. you realize it's only ~5GB.. that's not reasonable even for a console game.. not for this type of game.. they never even filled up a dual layer dvd.compression or not. This is 2011 and this is not acceptable. There's no reason we shouldn't expect the full package when we buy a game at $60 imho.
@LightningJR you argue without any backbone. you obviously dont know how programs on processors work. skyrim has been made to be optimal on the 360 and ps3. it does not matter the amount of data present but rather how well a machine can process what the data is asking for. graphics have SOME extent to the data amount on a disk but you can still find games with data over 60gb without the same level of graphical quality of skyrim. skyrim doesnt have perfect graphics but they sure as shit arn't bad

I have now almost 20 hours of gameplay and I love it. I don't mind the crappy textures and I don't go near a wall and stay there.The music is awesome. So far I cleared 13 dungeons.All of them were different, really nice designed.The world is big, many locations to be found. I love to explore.This is a RPG. PC gamers won't get anything better than consoles. Every company knows that the console gaming is much more lucrative today. So they make a game for consoles and do a shitty port for PC. That is much more easy than doing a game for PC and than scaling down for consoles.
@gustavoreuas slightly wrong they make games on the pc for the consoles (especially the 360) the issue is they dont want pc getting better looking/playing games. Its the console manufacturers making specific deals e.g did you know that microsoft has a deal in place making sure that developers have to make their games look exactly same on ALL platforms to the 360 version otherwise they're not allowed to release it on the 360. EA gets around it becuase they are a big publisher same with activision
iv been playing this game for cuple of days on pc i do have to admit the graphics arnt great but everything in oblivion that was bad they fixed they added more stuff and made the game play 10 times better. look at it this way have you seen how big the game is its like World of Warcraft you cant make the graphic insane without it crashing. Personly it is a great game and it would be good if the graphics were inproved but you dont really need it. :)

Right I've played it now, the interface is horrible, ported straight from console, no hot keys for spells and items. You can't even click to select stuff. Graphics are horrible. I am so disappointed. The character management is so dumbed down too, terrible.
I care about gameplay AND graphics. They're both important. I will say this, the game is worth buying because of its scope. I mean, I'd still play Fallout 3 today simply because of how massive it is and how much entertainment you get from the purchase.
Too much rant about the graphics... Seriously, I prefere having some good (average) graphics that doesn't require the latest i7 quadcore @4GhZ and 16GB RAM and a GC of 4GB ... AND a good main storyline, lot's of fun side quests, awesome soundtrack and pictures (landscapes)... The game isn't finished in 10 HOURS at least.
I hope to quickly see a mod to get rid of the awful menus though...

Graphics should be top priority in any game just because the hardware and software exists so that any studio can dish out stunning visuals at low development costs. Graphics looks alright for a large game. Good story is good - essential. However to me from the videos the movement looks stiff and not organic. I havent played it yet so i cant tell. But graphics is ok really if the game is very large. Otherwise graphics alone would need 10 DVD discs and 100GB space on your HD. Most games today in all honestly take up 10GB ONLY for the juicy graphics. All the rest is subpar and the games take a few hours to finish. THAT is crap if anything.

I can remember turning that game on and my pc taking a shit trying to run it. Disappointed ins't the right word. I agree that those bastards at bethesda did a really bad job in terms of graphics and treating the PC base like second class citizens. They really cared more about the consoles so we got a console port.

Unfortunately I must disagree. This game looks much better than the previous iteration (TES IV: Oblivion) in almost every way. I will admit that it was not well optimized for PC and the texture resolutions should be much better but a game is not all about graphics. The game play is great and in line with the rest of the Elder Scrolls series, the audio is fantastic, the environment is beautiful and open. My only complaint is character animations, moments that should be epic can be rather dull.

I wholeheartedly agree with a lot of the comments in this video, you'd think such a major Elder Scrolls title would push the boat out graphically, i mean Oblivion did exactly that, it looked gorgeous on release, but dear god for this day and age it looks horrific close up. I can appreciate the fact they intend you to look at the world as a whole, but my god, this is shocking! The ui aswell, something as basic and simple as this you would thought they would adjust for the PC.

The developer is called Bethesda, not Beseida. Obviously you are right about this being another console focused game, so on PC it doesn't go beyond DX9 graphics features and mid quality textures. The game does have loads of redeeming qualities though. Should only be a year or two for the next gen of console hardware, and then we see the bar raised for game graphics, PC will benefit.

ZERO. i do not know if that was because i diddnt go out and buy the game immeadiatly but hey thats something else entirely. The music in this game is epic, the gameplay in this game aint great but its better than fallout, the graphics in this game are AMAZING. Period.

hmm, have you tinkered with your AA? try using external AA through your graphics card. It does wonders to the broken foliage. Though I am waiting for a tessellation pack like in Crysis 2.

People don't play games like Oblivion, Morrowind or Skyrim thinking before hand "OMG I can't wait to see mind blowing graphics". People get Elder Scrolls games for the great storyline and hundreds of hours of great gameplay, if you want pretty go have fun with Battlefield 3 or Crysis 2, I am quite happy playing Skyrim for its great story line and possibilities, loving it too :)

I agree completely. NMC's texture pack for fallout 3 blows this game away. If one guy can make graphics amazing then how come an entire team can't? I think people that played this for 50+ hours are die hard TES fans, or they play it on a console. Although the graphics looks great distant wise, I do have to agree with him about the low textures up close-- it's terrible! The idea of this game is great but they didn't deliver, starting with the UI! Any PC game that relies heavy on modders to fix a big issue is simply crap!

all you people saying gameplay over graphics I agree.. torchlight is a great example BUT.. if you don't know, this a HUGGE open world game that is immersive and should take hours upon hours to complete.. you realize it's only ~5GB.. that's not reasonable even for a console game.. not for this type of game.. they never even filled up a dual layer dvd.compression or not. This is 2011 and this is not acceptable. There's no reason we shouldn't expect the full package when we buy a game at $60 imho.

@LightningJR you argue without any backbone. you obviously dont know how programs on processors work. skyrim has been made to be optimal on the 360 and ps3. it does not matter the amount of data present but rather how well a machine can process what the data is asking for. graphics have SOME extent to the data amount on a disk but you can still find games with data over 60gb without the same level of graphical quality of skyrim. skyrim doesnt have perfect graphics but they sure as shit arn't bad

I have now almost 20 hours of gameplay and I love it. I don't mind the crappy textures and I don't go near a wall and stay there.The music is awesome. So far I cleared 13 dungeons.All of them were different, really nice designed.The world is big, many locations to be found. I love to explore.This is a RPG. If graphics make a RPG good or bad, then no comment.I want a good story, lots of quests, locations, dungeons.First update improves the UI, the map, and some other things.We have some mods too.

PC gamers won't get anything better than consoles. Every company knows that the console gaming is much more lucrative today. So they make a game for consoles and do a shitty port for PC. That is much more easy than doing a game for PC and than scaling down for consoles.

@gustavoreuas slightly wrong they make games on the pc for the consoles (especially the 360) the issue is they dont want pc getting better looking/playing games. Its the console manufacturers making specific deals e.g did you know that microsoft has a deal in place making sure that developers have to make their games look exactly same on ALL platforms to the 360 version otherwise they're not allowed to release it on the 360. EA gets around it becuase they are a big publisher same with activision

iv been playing this game for cuple of days on pc i do have to admit the graphics arnt great but everything in oblivion that was bad they fixed they added more stuff and made the game play 10 times better. look at it this way have you seen how big the game is its like World of Warcraft you cant make the graphic insane without it crashing. Personly it is a great game and it would be good if the graphics were inproved but you dont really need it. :)

LOL Have you ever played a Bethesda game before? Because if you have, then you should know that the following is par for the course:
1) horrifically bad optimization, even for high-end systems
2) a ton of bugs, although thankfully rarely game-breaking.
3) long commutes punctuated by random encounters.
4) really weird NPC scripting
5) immersive, addictive storyline.
Seriously bro, you should've noticed the game came in one 5GB DVD. for a 40+ hour game, that automatically means shitty textures.

Right I've played it now, the interface is horrible, ported straight from console, no hot keys for spells and items. You can't even click to select stuff. Graphics are horrible. I am so disappointed. The character management is so dumbed down too, terrible.

Too much rant about the graphics... Seriously, I prefere having some good (average) graphics that doesn't require the latest i7 quadcore @4GhZ and 16GB RAM and a GC of 4GB ... AND a good main storyline, lot's of fun side quests, awesome soundtrack and pictures (landscapes)... The game isn't finished in 10 HOURS at least.
I hope to quickly see a mod to get rid of the awful menus though...

Ok, honestly, some developers are lazy fucks. Graphics should be top priority in any game just because the hardware and software exists so that any studio can dish out stunning visuals at low development costs. If anyone decides to contradict me pick up a copy of The Witcher 2 first. Stop hiring talentless cheap people to do the artwork and hire a team of north american or eastern european students to turn your concepts into a functional, playable work of art !!!

Graphics looks alright for a large game. Good story is good - essential. However to me from the videos the movement looks stiff and not organic. I havent played it yet so i cant tell. But graphics is ok really if the game is very large. Otherwise graphics alone would need 10 DVD discs and 100GB space on your HD. Most games today in all honestly take up 10GB ONLY for the juicy graphics. All the rest is subpar and the games take a few hours to finish. THAT is crap if anything.

I totally hear the reviewer on this one. It's almost 2012, and this level of quality is a inexcusable.
Skyrim should've been a PC game, with PC Grade Graphics, and a user interface for mouse and keyboard.

I told everyone it's going to be a really bad ported piece of crap, guess what happened? Guess who didn't listen? Guess who's complaining? Exactly, them. It's depressing what's happening to the video gaming industry these days. How does a company that got famous by their PC games and PC modding community suddenly resort to consoles? Cash in easy money from dedicated fanboys who buy the game just because it has Bethesda in it, they just look at the package and just buy it. Silly naive hypers.

I still stand by this Review. I've been reviewing PC games since season 2. I feel like i got smacked in the face by this one. What do you remember about oblivion iv? I can remember turning that game on and my pc taking a shit trying to run it. Disappointed ins't the right word. All that being said, the score at the end of the video i think is fair for a Console game on PC...and remember "Take what i say with a grain of salt and come to your own conclusions with the game-play you see.
