I'm listening to this as I remember my friend Megan, she was a beautiful and vibrant 18 year old who lost her life yesterday to a car crash, along with 3 of her friends. They will all be missed dearly.
Been listening to Mumford and Suns, Motörhead, Modest Mouse, Lamb of God, The Beastie Boys, Metallica, Slipknot... it's been a hell of a day for my ears.
this song literally makes me cry even if i didnt speak english the sound of it would just make me sob. i was in a play called laramie project about the matthew shepard case and we played this song during it and the audience sobbed. now that i listen to it, i see how it relates.
exactly one year ago I heard the news of the death of my classmate at the age of 22, right after he graduated college. I know he is doing great things in a better life now
My Grandpa used to beat my Grandma. She stayed married to him till the day she died. This past summer she was diagnosed with Liver cancer. I took care of her on her death bed.Everyday I held her hand &sang " There will come a time you'll see with no more tears. And love will not break your heart, but dismiss your fears.
Get over your hill and see what you find there,With grace in your heart and flowers in your hair."
When she died before they buried her I made sure to put a flower in her hair.
This song is amazing. I have depression and went though a really harsh depressive swing a year or two ago, and this song really helped me through it. Initially I just thought it was a sad song, one that I could sit and listen to while I was moping around. But as I got better, as I started smiling and laughing again, I realized how much more this song is.
It's hopeful. It's still sort of sad, but it's not a depressing song. It's something to listen to when there's nothing you can do but hope.
Dear Mumford and Sons: Please, never ever ever stop making music. Especially songs such as this. Thank you. Sincerely: Everybody Who Has a Legitimate Taste In Music.
I love the general analysis that people are posting of this song, but this song is more than life and decay, I cannot express the emotions of this song through a few choice words and witty analyzed statements. But, I can say that this piece of music has saved me from my worst, and most trivial thoughts and actions, this song makes me want to live, to experience the devastating feeling of loss, and the joyous, yet cautious feeling of love.
I LOVE this group so much! It's funny when I listen to a song that I love on youtube I see a lot of comments about "why does this artist get get 20 mil views when real artists don't?" and to that I say GOOD! I'm glad that I don't hear songs like this that I love on the radio all the time for people that will listen to just about anything to say this is a good song. Because it's not, it's an excellent song as has real meaning, like their other songs and like other under appreciated real musicians
As I read the lyrics and listen to the words in the song, I get a message of letting go. Letting go of something or someone truly loved and appreciated. The fear of loving someone is the fear of feeling pain. To know true love and beauty is to know pain and decay. But, to live life without pain is to live life without love. So live and never be afraid to love!
You must fully live life to decay. Decay in the sense that, like aging lines on our faces-- they are maps, paths and imprints of our life experiences... each line tells a story. According to some dictionaries, decay is defined as, "to decline in excellence, prosperity, health, etc.; deteriorate." I believe the more excellent our existence, the more noticeable the decay. It's like Newton's 3rd Law (I think?), for every action, there is an opposite and equal reaction.
This song is so beautiful but whenever I listen to it I cry, because my school had their remembrance day assembly today and they played this song for the soldiers of all the wars, and the reason it makes me cry is because my grandpa fought in World War II and he died when I was 7.
I barely knew him or ever got to see him and then a year after he died, my dad made us move
I first heard this song on stargate universe. This is one of only two songs that makes me cry every time I hear it. Something about the voice, lyrics, and tune that just pierces your soul.
"And I won't die alone, and be left there. Well I guess I'll just go home, god knows where. Because death is just so full, and man so small. Well I'm scared of what's behind, and what's before."
That verse is just so personal to me, I'm so glad I found this song, and band.
i saw them last night in hamilton, ON. absolutely amazing. this song brought tears to my eyes and made me cry in a beautiful way. seeing them live and the way they played their music made me happy- in the simplest way. listening to this band gives me hope <3
I just discovered this band two days ago. This has become my favorite song. I listened to it on repeat yesterday and cried like a baby the whole time. It's amazing how healing music can be, and how a song can be written in a way that you swear the writer knows you personally. My only regret is that I didn't have this song a year ago; I really needed it then. So so thankful for it now, though! :)
I didnt have the song name or band name and got it from Why!Yahoo Answers - have had some real help in finding out stuff thru that yahoo answer thingy.........but oh so beautiful voice and song.......love it :o) - now gonna check out there otha music!!

@GPowellable if you could read correctly you'd understand that what I said was simply rhetoric; by comparing this song to one of the great songwriters I was emphasizing how good the writing is. Not sure why that offends you so much. And while we're telling each other what Dylan songs to listen to: Girl from the North Country.
@jamieownsuok Seriously? Is this really a comment? This is a huge slap in the face towards Mumford and Sons, let alone anybody who can read correctly. Dylan is just so obviously a large influence on these guys. Did you see what an honor it was for them to play, let alone be within five feet of him was for them? For anyone? Take a stab at his voice, his attitude, anything. Just leave his poetry out of it. He didn't win 11 Grammy's for nothing. Go listen to A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall.
mumford and sons is like a state of bliss, ecstacy and true awakening wrapped in one. Chills isnt even the word to describe the all encompasing feeling you get when taking in their melody, their meaning, their song. Rather it is your soul coming out, and tingling the very essence of you're being.
Really read over that line a couple of times and try to take in it's meaning. I'm going to get it tattoed on me on day, it can be applied to so much in your life.
@SuperShoplifter I think, 'You must know life to see decay', means that the idea of something becoming lost, or decaying, can only occur because it existed in the first place. Decay occurs because of life, and when such decay makes one despair so much, it can only be because it was so beautiful when it existed. To 'see' decay, is to see that pain in loss is only a product of what you lost having been so amazing and real, and it makes one appreciate something for what it is, while you can.
@TheTUBERStripple01 I found this by watching stargate universe going OMGOGMOOGGOMGOMGOMG and pluggin the lyrics into google. I love chloe, I wish Eli and chloe would get together. Eli is the most beautiful on the show.
I lost my best friend two months ago. She was more than a friend, I truly loved her more than I ever thought I had the capacity in my heart to love, and she broke my heart. You never really know how important love is to your soul until it leaves you, so cherish it and never take it for granted.

@MrTjess554 People on here don't seem to understand that YouTube has an artificial intelligence engine. It recommends videos based on what one likes and does not like. I dont think any of their songs do anything short of amazing and inspiring me. Im not sure they are capable of letting me down they never fail to inspire me, amaze me , make me smile, cry, feel and think. what a blessing to the world they are and i cannot stop listening to them.
lol, everyone clicking replay on a song called after the storm, love it. One off the best works of Mumford and Sons btw, if you're into the style, check out phosphorescent, kinda sound alike, Mumford and Sons epic though.
This is one of those songs that makes you sit back with your eyes closed and really listen to it. I wasn't suprised to feel tears running down my cheeks, it's just that beatiful. It's amazing to find music that can evoke such emotion. Cheers to them.
if there was every a song that helped me thru a hard time its this one. lyrics from this song will be part of my memorial tattoo for a much loved and precious baby who sadly lost the battle for his life. i dedicate this song to you, beautiful baby Joseph Gabriel.
This is one of my personal favs, I think probably the best song in the album:) Love them<3

I dont think any of their songs do anything short of amazing and inspiring me. Im not sure they are capable of letting me down they never fail to inspire me, amaze me , make me smile, cry, feel and think. what a blessing to the world they are and i cannot stop listening to them.

And there will come a time, you'll see, with no more tears.
And love will not break your heart, but dismiss your fears.
Get over your hill and see what you find there,
With grace in your heart and flowers in your hair.

lol, everyone clicking replay on a song called after the storm, love it.
