To one of the previous comments: there is nothing wrong with this Harl's muzzle, that is indeed how they look like, pink. I have a Harl and when I lived in FL everyone asked me why I don't put sunscreen on the muzzle, they thought he had a sunburn. Not at all. This is how they look like. Frankee looks the same up north with less sun. Danes are such goofballs, mine will do the same thing . Thanks for sharing.

It is a yeast infection hard to get rid of that Great Danes get, it is not painful but it itches real bad. My guess is this Dane has it on his feet too??? I forget the name of it, but it can only be cured by antibiotics and a spray they give you from the vet. My dog had it and it comes and goes.
being an owner of a great dane I can attest to the fact that those barks are loud! and somethings when in a space with an excellent echos danes just love to bark, I guess it is just like us humans who like to sing in the shower. Love the video and that you posted it for your friend.
I found this and I just smiled. My harlequin great dane passed away when he was just five years old. I know it sounds stupid, but he was my best friend. I used to share a bed with him, and let's just say I was better off sleeping on the floor most nights. Great danes are amazing pets, even if they are a little big. :)

@yeschet Not exactly happy, cutting 1/3 of his weight in 3 years is not healthy. He seems to be about 33-34 inch's at the withers (rough estimate) which is a fairly average size male Dane, I would project 150-160 for a medium built dane, 130 would definitely be too skinny. Apparently your friend has not had much experience with animals if he could make a dog cut 70 pounds in 3 years and be happy with himself, that should be a time for the pound to intervene but I'm sure he loves his dog.
Your friend's dog is very over weight. I'm sure you don't care but you should tell him to try and knock a few pounds off, I would say down to 185 max for health reasons.

Honestly, she looks healthy. Sure shes got some extra meat on her bones but its better than being so skinny you can see her bones. Our great dane was the runt, and because of that its hard for him to put on weight.
I'd just watch out for when she gets older and her joints start to go a little faster.

Beautiful dog! I love Great Danes--years ago, I had the pleasure of having one. Her name was Trudy. She loved almost everybody! We had to put her down at 7 yrs old because kidney failure. Seeing these videos makes me wanna find another as special as she was!
There is no way that dog is 200 pounds, im a breeder of great danes and he's not euro, a bit overweight..he prolly weighs in about 170-180. which is a good size, but 200 is rare for a dane. btw, he's dominant over your friend..which sucks for your friend lol.
@Dallasboy678 the smaller ones tend to live longer, or so it seems. I've had one that died at 5 (genetic heart problem) and I've had one that lived to be 12.
I wish all of you Dane nutrition experts could meet in a Thunderdome type environment and have a once-and-for-all fight as to whether Domino is too fat or too skinny. I think the owner will stick to physical exams by a vet and not the opinion of folks who have only seen a fuzzy Youtube video.
@yeschet ...I'm a (human) nutritionist, and I know only a few points about canine nutrition...I used to have a (male) brindle Dane many years ago, and his dinner consisted of a layer of kibble plus 4 regular-sized cans of dog food (and I imagine he could have eaten more)...I have never heard any other Dane dinner examples (e.g., amounts), but - even as a "runt of the litter" (maybe 30-32" at the shoulder) - I feel that he had an average (weight) appearance...how much does your dog eat?
@yeschet there's no way their vets opinion is any different, if course if they don't take that advice they won't take anyone elses. You would think they would, as we have so little time with our danes as it is. That dog is quite overweight, it's a shame.. he's beautiful, being so large they have enough stress on their joints and are so prone to joint diseases. it's just cruel to put more stress on them. They should have a waist and 2 ribs showing, the video isn't that 'fuzzy'.
@yeschet It is insane that this is one of the only breeds this happens with. There really are dane crazy people who only want to ruin a video by slapping someone elses hand about the way they raise their dog.
He's 200ilbs because he's really, really overweight. That poor dog is far too fat. You should be able to feel all of your dog's ribs without pressing hard, even see the last couple. Thar poor dog probably feels sick all the time.

@yeschet ...I'm a (human) nutritionist, and I know only a few points about canine nutrition...I used to have a (male) brindle Dane many years ago, and his dinner consisted of a layer of kibble plus 4 regular-sized cans of dog food (and I imagine he could have eaten more)...I have never heard any other Dane dinner examples (e.g., amounts), but - even as a "runt of the litter" (maybe 30-32" at the shoulder) - I feel that he had an average (weight) appearance...how much does your dog eat?

@yeschet there's no way their vets opinion is any different, if course if they don't take that advice they won't take anyone elses. You would think they would, as we have so little time with our danes as it is. That dog is quite overweight, it's a shame.. he's beautiful, being so large they have enough stress on their joints and are so prone to joint diseases. it's just cruel to put more stress on them. They should have a waist and 2 ribs showing, the video isn't that 'fuzzy'.

@yeschet It is insane that this is one of the only breeds this happens with. There really are dane crazy people who only want to ruin a video by slapping someone elses hand about the way they raise their dog.

He's 200ilbs because he's really, really overweight. That poor dog is far too fat. You should be able to feel all of your dog's ribs without pressing hard, even see the last couple. Thar poor dog probably feels sick all the time.
