few problems with plate techtonics? there is no subduction of plates, infact the opposite happends new sea floor is draged from under the continental crust. (this would also cause volcanic activity and mountain ranges) not only rifts but thousands of under sea volcanos also contribute to new sea floor. this makes for a growing earth. google earth is perfect to show this as it shows direction of continental movement as well as how all the contanants were once together in a smaller globe.
