  • hey bonnie, I'm so glad you posted this video because I'm a first year college student and I'm not quite sure what I'm doing but this helped me a tonnn. I was just wondering, did you have to pay for your internship? I looked on the website you said you found your internship, dream careers, and it says you have to pay tuition. is that true?

  • @pckrs4ever i did have to pay, but with dream careers it covered your two month stay, a complete resume do ever, they basically found all the jobs for you, but then you had to interview and then pick which fit best for you. It also included a $500 food card (so you never had to pay for food), transportation to and from your job AND fun events every weekend. We went to vegas (all paid for), baseball games, nights out in san diego, the zoo and stuff like that. I thought it was worth it!

  • In what area of business would mostly benefit the position of a fashion buyer? Marketing?

  • wow thats so cool! you truly are fortunate to get your dream job.<3 i also want to work in fashion, and i know theres sooo many areas to it,usually when i say u want to work in fashion people automatically assume you want to be a designer, hahaha.what university/college did you graduate from? also,in the job that you have do you have to spend alot of time apart from your family or not so much?do you think having a career in something like fashion is just as beneficial as majoring in a-

  • Even if I'm not going to graduate in Fashion, I was still very interested in this video...I love how you talk and how you give us so many suggestions and great tips!! Thanks Bonnie ;) I'm so happy you now have your dream job ;)

  • I work for Charming Charlie..one of the newest and fastest growing retails right now with such a great and different concept..we are fun..friendly..and fabulous...I work closely with the buyers and merchandise assistants so your job is awesome!! • @trvilla90 I love charming charlies!

  • I have been in the biggest funk lately. really lazy about school and not knowing what im doing , and not in school.. you are soo inspiring.. gonna get my act together. thanks bonnie!

  • This was a great video! =]

  • Please do more vlogs with Blair i miss them :)

  • I got power from your video Thank you Bonnie!!:)))

  • This video really interests me I feel like we have numerous things in common. I am graduating in May from UNL in Merchandising with a minor in Marketing. Last summer I as well moved to San Diego to intern for Nordstrom. I was offered an assistant manager position upon my graduation this May. I have been considering other options as well before I make a commitment to anything. If you have any time I would really love it if you could message me and tell me the specifics about your experiences. :)

  • I so wish that like I had someone like you around or even this video when I was younger. I have been to college 2 times already and am having issues/not sure if I want to pursue my degrees. I feel like they aren't quite what I thought they would be or what I am totally into and I am only 26 so I have time but I wish I wasn't so stuck and had a real career already.

  • @PurpleYellowBlue You don't need to have a degree in a particular field to get into it.You can even consider opening your own business or interning to get more experience in the field you want to be in.

  • @SushiRockStar well even as a hobby a resume can have more then job history, you can add achievements and such. I think it would help bc it shows your interest and passion of fashion and communicating about it. and when your channels successful that's a bonus. :)

  • @collegemakeupgirl i completely agree. However since i also vlog on this account, i just wanted to keep some things private. They now know about my youtube (and it's no problem, they actually think it's cool!) but you never know how some companies may react. Instead, i mentioned that i was active in the blogging world, that i was up to date on the latest trends and thought that some markets were being missed by ignoring the growing popularity of fashion blogs :)

  • Thanks for posting this Bonnie! I love your videos. Its always reassuring and encouraging to know that its Ok to change your mind in life...lol I thought I wanted to be a teacher now I'm at Fashion school doing Marketing and Advertising for Cosmetics! =)

  • This video came at the perfect time :)

  • i know this is kind of personal but how is the pay for fashion merchandising?

  • Do you think that with a major in fashion merchandising and a minor in business, I'll be able to find a job easily? esp. if I intern?

  • @peshxo i can't say for sure but the business minor will definitely help! Math plays such a big role, a lot of people over look it. Any additional skills you can add to your resume will help.

  • Did you put your youtube channel on your resume?

  • @collegemakeupgirl nope, i consider youtube a hobby :)

  • This has definitely helped me. I haven't even applied to a college yet. I'm currently working on my g.e.d and I really want to be a fashion stylist along with being a Make up Artist. What exactly would I need to major in for Fashion Styling? And what kind of intern-ships/Where would I need to go for proper intern-ships for both Make up Artistry and Fashion Styling? (:

  • You just motivated me (: I wasn't sure what kind of job I want for the rest of my life, I'll be graduating this yr in business management but it wasn't until a year ago that I researched careers in fashion, job descriptions and what not & it just hit me. I want to go into fashion merchandising! You just reassured that a career in the fashion industry is what I want to strive for, thank you(: Do you recommend any good schools?

  • Sounds like speaking same thing over and over again...what is your roll in your Job? what could you predict fashion MD's future?

  • Comment removed

  • thanks :)

  • thanks

  • Did you dye your hair yourself or go to a salon. If you did your hair yourself, what product(s) did you use?

  • @cutesweetiezzz i went to a salon, asked for a warm black :)

  • @SushiRockStar thanks!

  • i love your hair color!

  • Thanks for this. It helped. I'm in college & want to be a social worker :)

  • It seems hard in your field but at the same time its easy to start small at a retail store since most people in highschool/ college can get a job at the mall selling clothes. For my field its not as easy you can't start small if you got nothing. Well you can volunteer but everyone needs money right?

  • Great information! It's so important to be forward thinking and gaining relevant experience while still in college. I interned as well, and it proved to be a great advantage now that I have my degree. I wasn't paid, but like you said, references and future recommendations are invaluable!

  • I think its cool how you figured out what you wanted to do. A lot of people I met first year in university finished what they started with and I thought I was the only one who switched around a lot. The only people I knew that switched around a lot were ones that started off in a community college and not in a university. But I guess its normal.

  • I don't know what I want to do with my life and it's the worst feeling ever!

  • @everydayusage it's ok! i didn't know what i wanted to do right away. Blair (my boyfriend) got a degree and is now back in school studying something else. Nothing is wrong with that.

  • Does anyone know of careers for photography that require a lot of traveling?

  • I go to FIT too! for cosmetic and fragrance marketing!

  • I'm attending school in NYC, I go to F.I.T. and I'm going for fashion design and lately I've been double thinking my career. I'll have my associates degree in May but I'm still unsure if I want to go for my bachelors due to the lack of jobs in designing...I'm debating on whether or not I should take merchandising or business classes. I love designing but I'm so scared of finding a job and paying off loans after schooling.

  • loveee your dark hair!

  • I dont plan on having a career in fashion and yet I found this video insanely helpful. Thanks for that. Also, do you think you can do a video showing outfits to wear to an interview?

  • Hi Bonnie. I'm a junior in high school and i'm interested in the fashion industry, possibly fashion merchandising. I want to know , what exactly does a career in fashion merchandising entail ? Also, how would a person go about getting an internship before college like you mentioned ? It would really mean a lot to me if you answered because I am so lost about what to do for college.

  • @aliyaomg123 i mean it really depends. Hours though are inconsistant, you'll work weekends sometimes. I think two skills that are really important are definitely business analysis (basic math skills) and communication. I went through an internship program, but i would think of it the same way as looking for a job. Don't freak out, you are still very young, i didn't figure out what i wanted to do until my sophomore/junior year of college :)

  • @SushiRockStar Thank you soo much ! This video and comment response really helped <3

  • Also I have a question! I sort of have a vague idea of what I want to do. My major now is Journalism but I really want to write for a huge fashion magazine, like articles. Is that my correct major? My friend goes to FIDM for fashion merchandising btw :)

  • @thehapagirl92 i would believe so but that is a question for your advisor. Do you blog? that would be a great add to your resume and be great practice :)

  • @SushiRockStar I don't have my own blog unfortunately :/! I think I will talk more in depth to my advisor because I feel as if I'm stuck at a stand still!

  • Your brother and you seem like me. I still don't know what I want to do and I'm a second year college student :/

  • im majoring in the same thing in nyc. i was wondering i notice u travel a lot. does that depend on the company you work for or is merchandising all about travel?

  • @LiZBAByx33 it all depends. Most of the travel is because that is where most brands are located such as New York or LA. There are also trade shows in those locations, plus vegas and chicago where everyone gets together to show off their new collections. If you work for a company in which they retail their own designers, such as Express, which might not travel as much since they do it all in house.

  • this was so informative!!! I love your energy!

  • Great video. I graduated with a degree in English Lit, I loved it. And, I have worked in finance, banking and financial planning since college. :) You just never know where you will end up.

  • Thank you for your reply! You are so sweet and personable :) You definitely motivated me to try harder with the job search. It is really important to do internships during college, I did not and that is something I regret. Thanks again for the reply and continue being positive! It's so refreshing!

  • Im undecided but this semester I am taking a Fashion class & Ive always wanted to be in the Fashion Industry but there are soo much other things I like Im sooo confused but wow merchandishing is really good. How do you look for internships?

  • @MizzChulita15 i found mine through dream careers. i know it's a confusing time, but you'll find what your calling when it comes. I would suggest job shadowing if you really want to see a "day in the life"

  • @SushiRockStar Yeah that sounds like a great idea. How could I get that opportunity though?

  • do you mind saying where you work?

  • @amyhou14 gotta keep some things private :)

  • love the dark hair!!!.. very sultry.. love ya bonnie

  • @trkgirl11 thank you!

  • This was SO helpful! I'm currently in University with a major in Health Science and a minor in Exercise Science but I don't know if it's something I still want to do. I'm working in retail too, just as a sales associate but I've done a few visual merchandising training programs and I really enjoy it so I'm thinking of switching my major but was a little uneasy because it seemed like a pipe dream to work in fashion but maybe it isn't!

  • @goesandgoesx that's exactly how i felt! do whatever feels right.

  • Bonnie, i love your videos because you are so humble and honest and down to earth. Your videos aren't perfect and flawless, but that's why I love them! <3 daisy

  • @daiserz89 well thank you!

  • ohmygod. for some reason this gave me chills. and it truely made me realize that i want to be in the fashion industry. i was always scared to start out and i didnt know where i would end up.

  • @lexiskpark aww i'm glad! there are so many options out there!

  • So did u find a job right after college? I am having a hard time finding a job after college. I graduated 8 months ago with a B.A. in business.

  • @shoppinginsocal3 i know it's a tough time. I didn't start my current job until a few months after, though i worked in management until i was able to move my way up.

  • can you do A LIFE AFTER?DURING HIGHSCHOOL? of what classes u should take to be prepared for fashion ect! :)

  • does your company sponsor the trips or do you have to pay for flights yourself? Also, just wondering what major in fashion allows traveling? I would really love to work for a company like yours!

  • you are so blessed! im so happy for you! XO

  • Im still super excited that you're a Kappa Delta :) Im loving the hair color by the way!

  • @sarahbelle93x well i'm excited that you are as well!! I hope your having an amazing time in college :)

  • Hey Bonnie! I'm doing a double major at college Public Relations and Marketing. I would really love to work in the fashion industry! Do you think, I could still get a job in the fashion industry even though I'm not studying fashion precisely? Thank youu! I lovee your videooos xox

  • @fefasm4 totally!! Like i mentioned in the video I have a few co workers who have degrees in other fields

  • Aww..great video Bonnie! Love that color on u!!

  • This was so helpful!

  • I changed my major after 3 semesters. Hard decision and a bit scary.

  • I love you Bonnie! did i spell you rname right? Can you make more videos with Blair in it?

  • @TheVietGurls you did! and i hope to, I really want to do the "boyfriend does my makeup tag"

  • @SushiRockStar OMG! that would be awesome..haha Blair would be awesome!

  • Love thissssss!!!!!!!!!! I wish I could find more videos like these of health major AHHH!!! lol I love the video though, I thought it was great! I think it´s motivational because it even motivated me to continue studying and not give up because there is an end to school work lol

  • thanks for this video! i am in college right now, taking basic classes though, and i just dont know what to major in, i have a few ideas but nothing solid, i did want to work with animals too but changed my mind. and how exactly did you go about getting an internship? i heard from coworkers that its a smart idea to internship. could you do a video on interviews? how to ace them and stuff? i have been through numerous interviews but seeing as im only 19, nothing major happened in the interviews

  • THANK YOU SOO MUCH BONNIE!!! :) <3
