hey bonnie, I'm so glad you posted this video because I'm a first year college student and I'm not quite sure what I'm doing but this helped me a tonnn. I was just wondering, did you have to pay for your internship? I looked on the website you said you found your internship, dream careers, and it says you have to pay tuition. is that true?
@pckrs4ever i did have to pay, but with dream careers it covered your two month stay, a complete resume do ever, they basically found all the jobs for you, but then you had to interview and then pick which fit best for you. It also included a $500 food card (so you never had to pay for food), transportation to and from your job AND fun events every weekend. We went to vegas (all paid for), baseball games, nights out in san diego, the zoo and stuff like that. I thought it was worth it!
wow thats so cool! you truly are fortunate to get your dream job.<3 i also want to work in fashion, and i know theres sooo many areas to it,usually when i say u want to work in fashion people automatically assume you want to be a designer, hahaha.what university/college did you graduate from? also,in the job that you have do you have to spend alot of time apart from your family or not so much?do you think having a career in something like fashion is just as beneficial as

Even if I'm not going to graduate in Fashion, I was still very interested in this video...I love how you talk and how you give us so many suggestions and great tips!! Thanks Bonnie ;) I'm so happy you now have your dream job ;)
I work for Charming Charlie..one of the newest and fastest growing retails right now with such a great and different concept..we are fun..friendly..and fabulous...I work closely with the buyers and merchandise assistants so your job is awesome!! If you ever decide to live in Houston,Tx check us out!!!
I have been in the biggest funk lately. really lazy about school and not knowing what im doing , and not in school.. you are soo inspiring.. gonna get my act together. thanks bonnie!
This video really interests me I feel like we have numerous things in common. I am graduating in May from UNL in Merchandising with a minor in Marketing. Last summer I as well moved to San Diego to intern for Nordstrom. I was offered an assistant manager position upon my graduation this May. I have been considering other options as well before I make a commitment to anything. If you have any time I would really love it if you could message me and tell me the specifics about your experiences. :)
I so wish that like I had someone like you around or even this video when I was younger. I have been to college 2 times already and am having issues/not sure if I want to pursue my degrees. I feel like they aren't quite what I thought they would be or what I am totally into and I am only 26 so I have time but I wish I wasn't so stuck and had a real career already.
@PurpleYellowBlue You don't need to have a degree in a particular field to get into it.You can even consider opening your own business or interning to get more experience in the field you want to be in.
@SushiRockStar well even as a hobby a resume can have more then job history, you can add achievements and such. I think it would help bc it shows your interest and passion of fashion and communicating about it. and when your channels successful that's a bonus. :)
@collegemakeupgirl i completely agree. However since i also vlog on this account, i just wanted to keep some things private. They now know about my youtube (and it's no problem, they actually think it's cool!) but you never know how some companies may react. Instead, i mentioned that i was active in the blogging world, that i was up to date on the latest trends and thought that some markets were being missed by ignoring the growing popularity of fashion blogs :)
Thanks for posting this Bonnie! I love your videos. Its always reassuring and encouraging to know that its Ok to change your mind in life...lol I thought I wanted to be a teacher now I'm at Fashion school doing Marketing and Advertising for Cosmetics! =)
@peshxo i can't say for sure but the business minor will definitely help! Math plays such a big role, a lot of people over look it. Any additional skills you can add to your resume will help.
This has definitely helped me. I haven't even applied to a college yet. I'm currently working on my g.e.d and I really want to be a fashion stylist along with being a Make up Artist. What exactly would I need to major in for Fashion Styling? And what kind of intern-ships/Where would I need to go for proper intern-ships for both Make up Artistry and Fashion Styling? (:
You just motivated me (: I wasn't sure what kind of job I want for the rest of my life, I'll be graduating this yr in business management but it wasn't until a year ago that I researched careers in fashion, job descriptions and what not & it just hit me. I want to go into fashion merchandising! You just reassured that a career in the fashion industry is what I want to strive for, thank you(: Do you recommend any good schools?
It seems hard in your field but at the same time its easy to start small at a retail store since most people in highschool/ college can get a job at the mall selling clothes. For my field its not as easy you can't start small if you got nothing. Well you can volunteer but everyone needs money right?
Great information! It's so important to be forward thinking and gaining relevant experience while still in college. I interned as well, and it proved to be a great advantage now that I have my degree. I wasn't paid, but like you said, references and future recommendations are invaluable!
I think its cool how you figured out what you wanted to do. A lot of people I met first year in university finished what they started with and I thought I was the only one who switched around a lot. The only people I knew that switched around a lot were ones that started off in a community college and not in a university. But I guess its normal.
@everydayusage it's ok! i didn't know what i wanted to do right away. Blair (my boyfriend) got a degree and is now back in school studying something else. Nothing is wrong with that.
I'm attending school in NYC, I go to F.I.T. and I'm going for fashion design and lately I've been double thinking my career. I'll have my associates degree in May but I'm still unsure if I want to go for my bachelors due to the lack of jobs in designing...I'm debating on whether or not I should take merchandising or business classes. I love designing but I'm so scared of finding a job and paying off loans after schooling.
I dont plan on having a career in fashion and yet I found this video insanely helpful. Thanks for that. Also, do you think you can do a video showing outfits to wear to an interview?
Hi Bonnie. I'm a junior in high school and i'm interested in the fashion industry, possibly fashion merchandising. I want to know , what exactly does a career in fashion merchandising entail ? Also, how would a person go about getting an internship before college like you mentioned ? It would really mean a lot to me if you answered because I am so lost about what to do for college.

im majoring in the same thing in nyc. i was wondering i notice u travel a lot. does that depend on the company you work for or is merchandising all about travel?
@LiZBAByx33 it all depends. Most of the travel is because that is where most brands are located such as New York or LA. There are also trade shows in those locations, plus vegas and chicago where everyone gets together to show off their new collections. If you work for a company in which they retail their own designers, such as Express, which might not travel as much since they do it all in house.
Great video. I graduated with a degree in English Lit, I loved it. And, I have worked in finance, banking and financial planning since college. :) You just never know where you will end up.

thanks for this video! i am in college right now, taking basic classes though, and i just dont know what to major in, i have a few ideas but nothing solid, i did want to work with animals too but changed my mind. and how exactly did you go about getting an internship? i heard from coworkers that its a smart idea to internship. could you do a video on interviews? how to ace them and stuff? i have been through numerous interviews but seeing as im only 19, nothing major happened in the interviews

thanks for this video! i am in college right now, taking basic classes though, and i just dont know what to major in, i have a few ideas but nothing solid, i did want to work with animals too but changed my mind. and how exactly did you go about getting an internship? i heard from coworkers that its a smart idea to internship. could you do a video on interviews? how to ace them and stuff? i have been through numerous interviews but seeing as im only 19, nothing major happened in the interviews
