  • Debbie's version of Charlotte A. Cavatica is still my favorite!

  • Sunday: April 15, 1956

  • @zachw225 So Carrie Fisher was in the oven. :) Sweet.

  • Celeste Holm!

  • does anyone know the story behind benny's comment of ""i would say that judging by the huskiness of their voices... i haven't been drinking enough cokes lately"

    thanks!!

  • @ApoloExpress That's because he knew who it was. Eddie fisher was like the coke guy. He was like the poster child for coke.

  • @1simaddict1 oooohh thanks! did not know that! :)

sidenote: but wouldn't bennett say something more like "i HAVE been drinking too many cokes lately"?? y'know, since he KNEW it was him [them] .....sorry, i'm delving to much into this lol

  • Fisher was a one of the greatest out-screwers of all times. He was envied by a hundred -million men and then became the laughing and pitying stock of everybody. He was advised by some italians to kill Burton, and why not Taylor too. He should, and so become an italian hero and a betterment of Ottello. Italy´s judicial system would have been lenient and forgiving. One year then free.

His life-after would have been better, a questionable hero is at the end more respected than a cuckold.

  • No, Debbie did not hate Eddie. She loved him and she said she understood why he left her for Liz. Carrie has her problems, as does Debbie. Debbie never had any talent and it is a shame she is still trying to do her Tammy act at her age.

I am not saying Eddie was a saint, but neither is Debbie, get a grip on reality!

  • Eddie looks at Debbie so lovingly in this video, too bad he was such an a-hole. To leave Debbie for Liz was the ultimate betrayal, the husband and her best friend. Debbie deserved better then what she got, especially when it came to men. She and Liz made up years later, and she got to speak to Liz on her deathbed. You're right defund, Debbie is the last man standing and good for her. Her strength, character, charm and humanity have kept her going. She deserved the title of America's Sweetheart.

  • Anyone familiar with Eddlie, Liz and Debbie would have known that Debbie would wind up last man standing, such was and is her strength.

  • Elizabeth died almost exactly 6 months after Eddie

  • They are so cute and I hate when love gets broken up . It breaks my heart, when you see the way they look at each other, and their body language, they should have been together forever!

  • grammys

  • Eddie and Debbie are adorable--America's Sweet Hearts of the 50's. You can feel the star power just shining off the two of them and they were so much in love. Too bad it couldn't last--only a few years later, Eddie got derailed by Liz Taylor's seductive charms and neither he nor his career ever recovered. But viewer's--doesn't this triangular plot sound vaguely familiar? Yes--Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie--and Jennifer Aniston. But the last three are dim bulbs of talent in comparison.

  • It's funny how Debbie tries to disguise her voice. :)

  • Debbie is so cute.

  • What do u think happens after we die?

  • I love Celeste Holme

  • They are so cute!

  • Recently??? Just a moment!!!!!! hahahahhaha :D:D:D:D: She's so great :)

  • Sad passing of Eddie, I'm sure Debbie remembers him for his marvelous contribute to the child factor: Carrie and Todd.

  • WOW! So good to see them together, when they seemed to be so tight with each other.

  • My gosh! So many people putting into words what I've thought about Debbie Reynolds for 50 years, She has little talent and has been doing the same schtick for 40 years. Give it up, Deb. You're boring.

  • @carrotjuse To each their own. However, just take a look at the other times she has appeared on this show. Quite frankly, she made me laugh out loud, and I am hard to please when it comes to being entertained. I happen to think that she was/is as good an actress as any other. (continued)

  • @Amusedman1 She has a right to still be who she is, and if you want to disagree with me on that, then that is indeed your right. I do have to give you credit though, at least you know the difference between the words "You're and Your". Had you not, I would not have been so magnanimous in my comments toward you here.

  • @Amusedman1 Lol.

  • @BernardProfitendieu so Debbie hitched her star to your wanking fantasy when she was 16? Hardly...you'd like to have had his baby and be dumped by him. Admit it. You're jealous she got a piece of him you old queen LOL

  • @wombchakra you appear to be a middle aged 43 year old - haha - sucks to be you!! - interesting the way you try to project your own self-image and fantasies on others!

I merely voice the opinion shared by millions that she was a professional mediocrity and has been milking a couple lucky breaks on the talk show circuit for 50 years.

Happy "wanking"! (but I think you might have to start calling your little sessions necophilia, now that your partner has died!)

  • I guess he wasn't kidding when he wrote "friend."

  • R.I.P. Mr. Fisher

  • Debbie Reynolds was quite talentless.

  • @JuanMacready Debbie was talentless compared to whom? you've not really followed her singing and acting career...ask Albert Brooks

  • @wombchakra Debbie was talentless compared to anyone who else who ever walked the planet Earth!

  • @wombchakra Reynolds was talentless compared to anyone. Her only decent film was Singing in the Rain, and her part could have been played by any actress.

  • R.I.P. Mr. Fisher

  • Edwin Jack "Eddie" Fisher (August 10, 1928 – September 22, 2010) was an American singer and entertainer, who was one of the world's most famous and successful singers in the 1950s, selling millions of records and having his own TV show. He was married to Debbie Reynolds, Elizabeth Taylor, and Connie Stevens. His divorce from his first wife, Debbie Reynolds, to marry his best friend's widow, Elizabeth Taylor, garnered scandalously unwelcome publicity at the time.

  • Debbie was so smokin' hot!

  • @ironbuttermilk Dude, that's what I see! She was lucky to lose that squirrel.

  • ; Rest In Peace, Eddie Fisher.

    Cheers!

  • RIP

  • What's with all the hate for Debbie?

  • The new Rock and Roll format destroyed Eddie just as much as Liz....

  • How did Eddie fisher get all does pretty lady

Go to who dated who you see not only Debbie and elizabeth.

  • you need to watch the clip where Carrie Fisher is on Craig Ferguson and asks to tell the story of her father and Elizabeth Taylor. "He consoled her with his penis" hahahah

  • "Why wasnt i in that cage" LOL!!!

  • They looked so good together. Debbie was wonderful at imitations. This was Eddie's attempt at doing Jimmy Stewart

  • The late great Elsa Maxwell. One of life's truly funny ladies. Nice clip.

  • she seems more jewish than poor Eddie

  • poor debbie

  • Butt, who was the "older lady" seated most to "our right" at 1:40? I can't see the name or hear her name "Mrs Elster?" Funny lady, regardless!

The other classic line was "Why wasn't I In that cage?"

  • It's Elsa Maxwell

  • Crikey, listen to those squealing girls when Eddie comes on. I don't really see the appeal.

  • @ecureuil85 well, if you were a Teeny Bopper girl in the early 60's... :/

  • @ecureuil85 you've never heard him sing?

  • I like Debbie i'm not so sure about eddie, but their daughter Carrie is so damn great. She is funny great actress and damn good writer. I have just watched Postcards from the edge ( very good movie)

  • Eddie was a cute guy with a pretty-good voice. He seemed very sweet but overwhelmed. I love Celeste Holm and her wry sense of humor and wit. She would have been a nice, regular addition to the show.

  • Absolutely she would have been great. Great observation

  • In my opinion Eddie was a nice guy who was stupified by a woman---namely Liz. She used him.

  • I read both of Eddie's biographies and from them I concluded that Liz Taylor could "bewitch" any man! Ultimately, even though he was in love with her ,and it was a humiliating experience to be "dumped" so publicly, he eventually realized it that he was better off away from her, since all her men turned out to be "nursemaids" for her.

  • WML is like nothing without Dorothy and Arlene ._.

  • TRUE! - WML needs Arlene's charm and class and Dorothy's journalistic inquiries :-)

But Celeste Holm is adorable though; "Have we met in the same cage before?" :D

  • You said it---show faltered even losing Dorothy

  • It's odd to watch these clips knowing what happened with their marriage -- or rather WHO happened to their relationship.

  • What year was this in??

  • I think it was in April 1956

  • Thank You.

  • Debbie Reynolds is star quality where ever she goes. I loved her then and still do.

  • He wasn't kidding when he wrote friend. ;)

  • Eddie's voice was so beautiful--his public suffered too. Not to defend him as a husband, but compared to FS, EF betrayed a desirable starlet with many productive years ahead. FS jilted the typical housewife of the 1940's. I think he left her & their 3 small children for Ava Gardner? But, that was 60 years ago. It's amazing what has held my interest all these years. I just love EF's voice and regret that it was silenced.

  • Well what a load of old waffle. Singin in the Rain; Tammy; the biggest star of 1958 - and huge record seller with Tammy; then there's The Unsinkable Molly Brown and The Singing Nun. All very big films with her as the main star. Let's not rewrite history or begrudge success where it is due. A great Hollywood star of top calibre - even if you don't care for her according to your venomous comment.

  • I thought we were talking about star-power. That's different than being a force in acting. Veryt often the two don't collide. She was a big star from the old Hollywood era and had a 'star' career of about 15 years - which is pretty darn big. As for acting - well that's another story :-)

  • she had the same "star power" as June Alyson and Van Johnson (i.e., very low wattage!) - def. not in the same league with the old Hollywood set - more like the watered-down next generation

(she ain't no Bette Davis, except in her mind)

The only one from that era who was a true star was her nemesis Elizabeth Taylor (who actually can act, when she wants to!)

  • Couldn't agree more.

    But I do like Debbie.

  • @BernardProfitendieu I hope that is just your opinion, because it sucks!!

  • @essgee007 Debbie herself admitted that she wasn't very serious about the "acting" part of her career. Then realized that to make it, you can't just only sing and dance, to do drama, one must learn the craft of acting. She didn't do a lot of drama, but when she did, she was impressive. As Celeste Holm said in this video to Debbie, she complimented her performance and her acting in Catered Affair. That is a big deal coming from Celeste. Miss Reynolds was a huge star, and icon of MGM.

  • @essgee007 thanks for having a brain :)

  • It was a pity that their marriage ended the way it did. They looked so good together.

  • Carrie equates Debbie and Eddie to Jennifer Annisten and Brad Pitt. Liz Taylor was Angelina.

I disagree. Angelina loves Brad Pitt. Liz Taylor just used Eddie Fisher. Karma got Eddie Fisher in the end as his whole career was destroyed and his children hate his guts. His live could have been

completely different if he handled things better. He didn't have to stay with Debbie Reynold's if he didn't love her. However,

he threw Debbie and the kids under a bus and trashed talked about them

  • EF did not treat women any worse than FS did. I regret all the unhappiness but I hate that Eddie's career was destroyed. It was a senseless loss.

  • nrc628 -

It is very unfortunate about his career being destroyed - but he knew the rules.

He may as well have murdered someone while he was at it. Leaving your young beautiful wife, who was American's sweetheart at the time, and their two babies, for Liz Taylor - not a good choice. Career suicide. But, Frank Sinatra, no saint himself, did not leave Nancy for her friend. I do not think the children were babies. He provided very well for Nancy.

Still, not right what he did.

  • Marriage of Eddie Fisher & Debbie Reynolds was breaking up at the time Debbie appeared in "Tammy & The Bachelor" movie in 1958.

  • No one forced Eddie to cheat on Debbie, just as no one forced Liz to cheat on Eddie. No one involved in this scandal is totally innocent. However, if Eddie had been around more, he could have made a difference in his kids' lives. They are fully grown now and if either they or Eddie wanted to take steps to be a part of one another's lives they would do it. It still could happen somewhere down the line. For the record, Eddie has said unkind things about Debbie as well.

  • I do know that Liz did call Eddie and spoke with him and wanted him to visit her in her home in Beverly Hills. I know this because I belong to his fan club and the fan club president spoke to Eddie on the phone and he told her about Liz calling her. Debbie has a lot of problems, even today she does not want the children to be on friendly terms with Eddie. Eddie did not visit Liz, maybe Liz was trying to make amends with Eddie, after leaving him for Burton.

  • Thanks for interesting info. i'm frankly surprised Liz called him, but she may have felt bad about dumping him for Richard. Liz may also be lonely.

  • dungareedoll1 -

I read all of Carrie Fisher's books. She

can't stand her father. She claims he

was not in her life growing up. Debbie Reynold's was a great mother, Carrie claims. Also, Eddie wrote an autobiography that spit on Debbie and the family, according to Carrie. I read his book, "Been There, Done That" and have to agree. No one was a bigger cad then Eddie Fisher. It was a long time ago, but not to his children. They have a long memory. So does Debbie Reynolds.

  • @dungareedoll1 I don't know how you know that Debbie has a lot of problems. She and her kids could not stand Eddie Fisher and it isn't because Debbie has problems. It's because he had problems. He betrayed his wife and kids. Carrie's book "Wishful Drinking" is excellent and an autobio about her family. She says he was an absent husband and father, always gone, doing drugs and drinking, carousing with women. They didn't like him and didn't feel sad when he died, only sad in how he lived.

  • Liz has been in contact with Eddie but he does not stay in contact with her and I am sure he would not want to see Debbie at all, can't blame him.

  • Agree he should not contact either of them. both of them have said unkind things about him.

  • No, just because Eddie does not work anymore does not mean he is a "wreck". He is 80 years old for gosh sakes!!!!

Eddie did NOT take Debbie's money. Her two ex-husbands may have but if anything Eddie gave her most of his money just to get away from her. Think about it, if their marriage was happy, he would not have left her for anyone!!!! Debbie also found ways of keeping him away from their children. She is not an innocent by a long shot and that's why she is still working today.

  • Eddie is the one who left his two small children (one of whom was an infant) to be with Liz. If he really wanted to be around his kids (including his daughters with Connie Stevens) he wouldn't have let anyone or anything stop him. He was an adult. Debbie raised those kids pretty much on her own.

  • everybody always slams Eddie and i think it's awful. Nobody every blames Liz for the break-up of the marriage. she didn'

t seem to care one hoot about Debbie whes she was with her husband. Liz was also to blame for the break-up of that marriage. She also went with Richard Burton when he was Married AND FEIGNED ILLNESS WHEN HE WASN'T LEAVING HIS WIFE. i think she also attempted suicide b/c he wasnt leaving Sybil. Beautiful for sure, but no innocent babe!

  • Well said and i agree with you.

  • @dungareedoll1 Debbie is working because she wants to. She love what she does it keeps her active. If she can still sell out venues for whatever audience, I say why not. That is impressive. But Eddie was a jerk and left all four of his kids. He didn't do much for them. Debbie covered for him when he was supposed to be there for his kids at time but didn't show. And that info came from Carrie and Todd.

  • I loved the way Elsa Maxwell bluffed her way through. Reminiscent of Ernie Kovacs.

  • Celeste Hoom and Debbie Reynolds were together in the great musical The Tender Trap.

  • Today Eddie is a wreck and Debbie is still flying high. Everytime she comes to Chicago with her stage show she sells out and gets great reviews. I recently saw her and she really thinks of her feet, improvising a lot during the show. She has yet to grow old. Maybe she never will.

  • it was Liz Taylor and they had both lost someone the were very close to them--it can't be blamed solely on Eddie. Liz was there too!

  • Debbie Reynolds was 22 years old the and now she is 76. Most of the men in her life have taken all her money

  • wow celeste holm is on the panel! are they always celebrities?!

  • I remember Debbie saying that her courtship with Eddie was sweet and romantic but the minute they married it turned sour. She admitted that she found no satisfaction in sex until later in life and that Eddie was moody and jealous of her career. In photos and footage like this they always seem very affectionate to each other, interesting what may or may not have happened behind closed doors. Incidently, Debbie and Liz are still friends and both keep their distance from Eddie. Smart move!

  • Yes, and I did I catch it correctly when asked if their careers were at the same level: Eddie says "yes" and Debbie says "no"?

Cuz, if so, that is quite telling.

  • @SueBeaWho i believe debbie said yes, but in an accent, like 'yoos' which is probably why it sounded like 'no', because of the O letter sound :)

  • @SueBeaWho i actually have been listening to it a billion times already hahah and now i just don't know LOL

  • HE WAS NO FRIEND !!!!!!

  • will one of you run off with liz taylor?

  • great comment-i liked it.

  • Thanks so much for posting this clip. I was so angry at myself for missing this on GSN very early overnight (9/8/08) and here it is on youtube. Again thanks so much to you NorbertR33.

About the clip it is interesting that with Debbie such a gifted mimic, we have Eddie doing an imitation. For those who did not recognize the voice, it was an attempt to do Jimmy Stewart.

  • Ditto on the thanks for the posts. Always enjoy getting a glimpse at the show since I don't subscribe to cable. Maybe one day I can afford it.

  • Interesting to see this, knowing what we know now (or at least what Eddie claims the marriage really was). However, there can be no denying that for a few years, the were a Hollywood Golden Couple, and at least the marriage produced Carrie and Todd Fisher. Thanks for posting.

  • I guess they were that generations Brad and Angelina.

  • where in the world is Dorothy, Steve, and Arlene? boo.

  • Dorothy and Arlene were absent, attending the wedding of Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier of Monaco.

  • that's so cool!

golly, this show(WML) is like movie history in the making!

  • Thanks for finding this one, which I hadn't seen before. Very interesting, for sure.

  • Eddie Fisher, like so many other dumbass men, had steak at home and gave it up for hamburger.

    What an idiot!

  • I wouldn't call Liz hamburger and Debbie steak!

  • lovesssssssssss her dont like him how can he of left her for taylor shes so much better!aand funny love celeste holm and lovesss it

  • The panel:Bennett Cerf,Celeste Holm,Robert Q Lewis,Elsa Maxwell,

  • This is the second time I've seen Bennett in a seat on the panel other than on the extreme right. I guess he gave that up for Ms. Maxwell. I loved the time Bennett filled in as host for John. He seemed to do a good job.

  • who was to the right of robert?
