the horses that are raced aren't broken in, so naturally, they don't understand rider ques. all they know is to avoid the pressure of the whip. Plus they're animals so we can't just tell them go fast, and expect them to understand.

Thats actually not entirely true, you should do a little research. They actually are broken in pretty well, they school almost every day in training and in the post parade they have to learn to lead with a horse, they also have to be very spook proof if there out on the track and the crowd roaring.

this is what I have been told by my farrier who used to shoe racehorses. And I'm not concerned that they're getting hurt. A horse can withstand another horses kick, I doubt that giving them a reminder of the whip is going to kill them. They are extremely strong animals.

They do not euthanize them because they can not run, it is the humane thing to do when one breaks a leg.
