Recited this song as apart of my elegy at my baby sister's funeral... R.I.P. LEESH Sept. 8 2008...Although she was only 21 her legacy will live on with this song forever within our family and friends....Love you LEESH
This song takes me back to a very special time in my life. Your music will live on forever U2. My Children know you and my Grandchildren and they love and understand.
Bono and U2. NZ needs you now. Please do a concert in NZ and for Christchurch. Please donate all proceeds and profit to those in the Christchurch region who are going through such difficult times. U2.You are NZers as you have that connection with our country. Our country needs you now.Kia Kaha to those we call Our NZers through out the world at this most tragic of events. There are many bands that come and go through NZ but it seems like U2 truly are NZers/Kiwis.
Bellissima, una delle mie preferite. Si sente il ritmo che incalza, proprio come un fiume che scorre verso il mare... è la vita! Da 2:36 a 3:06 sono 30 secondi di musica incredibile, magnifica, perfetta.
My favorite all time rock band. I rocked through the 80s, 90s, and 2000s listening to this band. This is one of my favorite songs, but I pretty much love all of their music. My other favorites are Beautiful Day, Electrical Storm, One, Sarajevo Girl, All I Want Is You, The Hands That Built America, etc. they have aged gracefully like me, lol.
I listened to this album, on which this was my favorite track, all the way through Joshua Tree National Park. I fell in love, moved to the desert, and have been here for 15 years now. Thank you, U2.
The melody= nearly perfect or perfect, used to be my little secret song, felt like I was holding a morsel of gold when I first heard it ! So soulful !! Long live Rock and Roll,Berry,Lennon and Joe Strummer ! Go away RAP,britney and madonna.
23 years later and this song is still one of the greatest ever.....first heard it at my 18th in 1987.....still fresh and outstanding today....wish i was 18 again lol
Our Lady Peace, a Canadian "rock band", think they are U2. Their lead "singer", a guy who cannot sing, is the biggest Bono wannabe ever, right down to the olive drab Castro cap. WORST BAND IN CANADA, after the TEA PARTY.
just a couple other bits, the one tree hill refers to a volcano in Auckland that has one tree growing at the top. Also Bono refers the folk singer Jara from Chili "Jara sang his song a weapon in the hands of love" IT's such a passionate, hearfelt song and lyric.
was at the U2 concert in 1995 in Auckland and BONO had GREGS family here and he paid his respects to the family & Greg - His loyalty mwill be remebered :) Im proud to be a KIWI!!!
Bono and Larry, along with many of Greg's friends and U2 associates, accompanied his body back to New Zealand. The group attended Greg's tangi (a traditional Maori wake, lasting three days) at Kai-iwi Marae, close to his hometown of Wanganui.
On his return to Dublin, Bono wrote the song "One Tree Hill" and later dedicated the album on which it appeared, The Joshua Tree, to Greg. [MV]
Yes, all true. This particular song was written for Victor Jara. Thanks so much for uploading this. We are working on a documentary on Victor Jara, the martyred Chilean socialist singer-songwriter this song is about. Info and trailer w/ part of Bono's interview at:
resurrectionofvictorjara (dot) com
Bono later (which will be in film) continues on how important Victor was...and continues to be.
On the 3rd of July, 1986, on a bleak and rainy Dublin night, Greg was out riding a motorbike when he collided with a drunk driver and was killed. Greg's death devastated the entire U2 organisation. During the two years that Greg had been working for U2, he'd formed many close friendships - but his bond with Bono was said to be especially unique.
Greg Carroll was a New Zealand Maori who U2 met in Auckland in 1984, while they were in New Zealand for the Unforgettable Fire tour. Greg had been involved in the New Zealand music industry since 1980, and worked for U2's promoter during the Auckland shows. He had a reputation for being an extremely hard worker and a valuable asset to the local industry.
I heard that this song was a dedication to a personal friend of the band that died on a certain road. I wish I had more info at the moment about this.......sorry folks, but I think on one of the live versions, Bono mentions it.
But remember, without the Beach Boys Pet Sounds, you would not have heard Sgt Pepper's. The producer took from the album to reproduce the beach boys sounds. Listen and learn boys and girls.
Anyone else think that "Surrender" from NLOTH has a similar...er.... sound (not sure what to call it but this song and "Surrender" have something in common)
Best song on a great album. Comparing to the Beatles... Apples and Oranges! Just enjoy the great music both have produced. The Beatles can never be compared to anyone anyway. They were IT. They didn't even have to tour to sell an album they just sold 'cause the music was fantastic.
I'll see you again When the stars fall from the sky And the moon has turned red Over One Tree Hill We run like a river Run to the sea We run like a river to the sea And when it's raining Raining hard That's when the rain will Break my heart great song indeed!!
I remember when this album was released , it sure lived up to the hype , so atmospheric and complete sounding . Still listen to it 20 years later . Better than the Beatles ....easily
Eh, maybe Joshua Tree is better than the Beatles, but if you take their discography as a whole the Beatles win...U2 is sometimes good and sometimes pretty lame, while even the worst Beatles albums are still decent.
agreed, the Beatles never had any filler, and in no way can be categorized as a singles band, U2 can't be called a singles band either but The Beatles incorporated alot more genius into their music
i dont associate music with politics, i personally am against his politcs, if you associate music with politics then its not about the music for you, bruce puts more passion into his music then most others including U2, also Phish is better then U2 as well, but this is all opinionated anyway, when it comes to dynamics and changing of style U2 is probly the best because of how many genres they stretch across
It would be kinda kool to have pictures of One Tree Hill with the old tree on it while the song is playing. It would just bring back so many memories...
