Obama Inauguration 2009 Purple Tunnel of Doom

The entire day was a cluster f****. If this is how dems are gonna run things were all in trouble. As Caroline Kennedy says " Ya know!!!"

I managed to get in. After a guy said the purple gate was closed I broke from the line and ran to see if it was true. They did close the gate but opened it up a few moments later. Lesson: Don't take other people's word for it.

Please dont take this the wrong way but, what were you doing in this tunnel in the first place??? Every map I looked at the night before said that purple ticket holders were supposed to use the Judiciary Square Metro as the access point for the purple ticket gate. I did this and got in the security line around 10 am. I got through security around 11:15 with only about 1 hour waiting in a crowded line. I just dont get it...

What route did you take to get to the gate? There were thousands of us who did exactly what you did -- got off at Judiciary Square, and walked towards the purple access point as clearly labeled on the map -- and we ended up in the mess, with police officers telling us to go into the tunnel. We didn't get in the tunnel out of stupidity, but because we were shunted there from the clogged road to the purple access point!

Good question.  We got off on Judiciary Square. We went up towards the purple gate but the cops directed us back, following a line of people. When we got to what looked like the end of the line, one cop, who was directing, pointed into the tunnel and told us the line continued in there. We then had to show out purple tickets to him before he let us into the tunnel. That cop was nowhere in sight when we emerged five hours later...

Nope. Got within a hundred yards of the yellow gate (purple was closed) but no luck. We did hear the cannons though--yipee skipee...
