This is right! Most people don't realize this fact. There is a clip of Frank Zappa from 1976 on Youtube showing Frank useing this technique and many other guitarist heve used this also. Ed just made it a big part of his playing technique. You could say he started the perfecting of it. Steve Vai is one of the best at this and if you want to see it taken to the next level watch Stanley Jordan a jazz vertuoso!
