  • I just bought this lens, its so nice!!!!!!!, no not nice. Its just awesomeee!!!! pure ectasy!!!!!

  • How I wish I can own this lens.

  • cant help but think they stole the "G" from nikon.......

  • @chaosrealm93 Minolta must have stolen it then, because Sony just inherited the label from them...

  • @hbphotography700 i thought zeiss makes sony's lenses.. =s

  • @chaosrealm93 Zeiss has designed a couple of lenses for Sony, some of which I own, but they really only design and supervise manufacturing. Most of the lenses Sony has are re-badged Minolta's.

  • @hbphotography700 oh. i see.

  • @chaosrealm93 Zeiss only licenses some of the glass and group technology to Sony. The original Zeiss lenses made in Germany cost easily tree times as much as then expensive Sony Zeiss lenses and most are not made with Sony mount. The Sony Zeiss lenses are made by the old Minolta lens division bought by Sony when they entered the DSLR market. Actually Tamron also makes some of Sony lenses with the Sony badge. They are basically re-branded Nikon lenses.

  • @mYOzZyKaT ah, i see. thanks for the in depth explanation =)

  • @mYOzZyKaT

Your are not right on this.

The Sony Zeiss lenss are designed by Zeiss but mass produced in Japan.

Glass is made by Zeiss and they have two serial numbers for glass and body.

The 135mm f/1.8 does only exist for A Mount and is superb.

This 85mm, the 24-70, 16-35, 18-80 crop and the new 24 f/2 are equal or better than Canon/Nikon designs.

There has been some critics on the build quality of some Sony Zeiss lenses but the optical performance is unquestionable Zeiss standard.

  • @hbphotography700 I swear the 'G' symbol is for the new Nikon lenses whereas minolta had the G name since the A mount began as the G lenses were the super expensive lenses!

  • You will have to wait some years for FF Alpha with video.

I wonder why you haven't spend the money on A850 instead of this lens.

But as long as you are happy with your gear ;o)

  • @gerSick I'm no longer waiting for a FF Sony with video, instead, I have decided to save up for a Leica M9. Which will take a while... : D

I bought this lens because I need the wider focal length and I'm still very happy with my A700. Plus the price of the A850 went up quite a bit here in Holland, so it's even more expensive.

Still, I might be selling this and some of my other lenses in a year or so, to get new glass for the M-system.

  • Dudeeeee... Finally! got your 35mm f1.4! :D Niceeeeee.... :D

  • @braynumb I sure did, thanks! Loving it so far, a great wide-angle prime.

  • Bummer. No sound.

  • @ar4216 There's a link to Vimeo in the description, you can watch it with sound there...

  • Wow nice lens, i will get this lens altogether with the 70-400 G this year :)

  • @iglyduckling Thanks! I hope to get that 135mm you unboxed some time next year, hoping I can buy the new Zeiss 24mm f/2 SSM this year...

  • Hi Bjorn, Tadej here...

Looks like a great lens. Can't wait to see some samples! :-)

  • @TTphotography It sure is a great lens Tadej! some samples will soon be up on my Flickr!

  • Nice video as always! I do notice the audio had been muted due to copyright issue, I'm fine with it cuz I have the same song as you inserted in despite mine one is a bit masterly digitalised.

    Keep it Up!

  • @lolitaluvphotography Thanks Adi!

  • Looks great, if only it was 1000 pounds cheaper haha

  • @robbybobby20009 That'd be great! So far the only thing I don't like about the lens is paying so much for it. Oh well...

  • @hbphotography700 Looks like the lens is true to the phrase "you pay for what you get" then eh? :)

  • Thanks for posting! Really nice. Much smaller than I expected. How's the build quality compared to say the Zeiss 24-70?

  • @laroygreen Thanks Leonard! The build quality is great. Metal construction is much better than the 24-70mm plastic, although the latter has a metal hood. Focus on both lenses is very smooth, although the 24-70mm is just at a different level in that field. I like the fact the 35mm has a smooth-surface focus ring, so you don't get the dust issue Sony lenses are known to have.

  • zomg! dangit they muted you again? that's lame.

very nice lens! time to add it to your other toys pictured on your desk!

  • @thedr4gon Thanks Ryan! I put up videos that got muted earlier, but they just got an iTunes link as one of those pop-up ads and the audio came back...

  • @thedr4gon @hbphotography700 The video is now up on Vimeo, with sound. Link's in the underbar!

  • I've always wondered why the 35mm f1.4 has to be that big when they have a 50mm 1.4 that's compact. Or like my Minolta 35/2 is similar to the 50mm 1.4 in size.

Zeiss, Voigtlander, and Leica all make very compact 35mm 1.4's.

  • @rhddrifter86 This lens isn't even that big, comparable to Nikon's old lens and smaller than Canon's USM L version.

  • VERY Nice..! :-)

  • @conory Thanks!

Hope the music comes back soon...
