Woo Hoo. It's been a long time coming but the Australian film industry has finally dared to embrace the popular world of romantic comedy. And from the people who not only know how to write comedy well, but make films with international appeal.
Oh remember the song from the Late Show 'Melbourne cliches' a parody of the song by 'things of stone and wood'? I think that should be the theme song of this movie. :D
I don't necessarily judge a film by it's trailer but I do agree with you on this video.
Although, I still want to see it because the direction make Melbourne a perfect atmosphere for a typical romantic comedy rather than a tourist video, it's from the company who made The Castle and The Dish and (the best part in my opinion) it has the actor who played the murderer in my recent favorite film Snowtown in the cast.
@TheSilentHamish this is a f*****g trailer. u cant judge a movie by its trailer in other words cant judge a book by its cover. u havent seen this movie right? if u r a true fan of these guys u will know there are secret jokes and comedy thrown in this movie that only true fans would understand. rob sitch is the best. look up super bad trailer. that sucked ass but the real movie was a hit, suck balls. p.s ur name sucks
whoever was responsible for the teaser i've been seeing at hoyts cinemas (it runs about 20 seconds) needs to never make a trailer again. this does it more justice, and the teaser makes it look like the worst attempt at a movie in the history of man.
@tiyen11 "it does not sound natural but not all Australians say g'day."
? You are obviously trying to miss the point. Rather than saying casting me as a "typical American", and then turning it into me being a "racist", how about you just relax and think a little more rationally and calmly about what I'm saying: the trailer seems stylized.
"Also, if America isn't a race, then its ok to intentionally make fun of it?"
Sure, who said you couldn't? What the fuck are you talking about?
AT LAST! AN AUSTRALIAN FILM THAT DOESN'T MAKE YOU WANT TO CLAW YOUR EYES OUT WITH SALAD SPOONS OR COMMIT SUICIDE OUT OF SHEER DEPRESSION! WHY DOES OUR FILM INDUSTRY FIND IT SO HARD TO MAKE DECENT COMEDIES!
@MyGreyJumper Excuse me? Have you seen "The Castle"? "Pricilla Queen Of The Desert"? We've done some shockers I'll admit, but do us some justice for the bloody gems we've done, too.
@tiyen11 "now I get it, you're being racist. You can't accept the fact that two women calling a man a jerk in a store with Australian accents isn't normal and you think it's American."
Racist? America is a race now? lol Dude, you're all over the place. Let me put it to you like this: imagine two New Yorkers greeting each other in a gritty Brooklyn bar "G'day mate"... Sound natural to you?
"Don't judge a country if you have not been there."
I've had the privilege of seeing the whole film at a pre screening and I was so impressed! Grinned and laughed the whole way through. Its so Melbourne! Don't form an opinion on the trailer alone! You have to see the film. Its brilliant!
@MattyJames25 Here we go again, a typical American who just thinks Australia is just stereotypes.
Most of us Australians are just tired of the typical "g'day mate" and "shrimps on the barbie" but at least the setting for this movie (Melbourne) is very cultured indeed.
@tiyen11 "Here we go again, a typical American who just thinks Australia is just stereotypes."
Yeah, way to combat stereotyping by stereotyping...
"Most of us Australians are just tired of the typical "g'day mate" and "shrimps on the barbie" but at least the setting for this movie (Melbourne) is very cultured indeed."
Well if appearing "cultured" is what is most important for you then there are plenty of other ways to represent yourself other than mimicking a tired Hollywood format...
@kappayim "Just cos we're Australian doesnt mean all our films have to be about kangaroos and koalas"
Fuck, and here I was thinking that Australians could actually made good films like Mad Max, Chopper, or The Castle, you know, uniquely Australian movies... But yeah, if it's too much to ask then stick to koalas--but two girls calling a guy a "jerk" in Aussie accents in a department store just doesn't sound natural...
@ICommentCuzILike "hat's how Aussies act normally; can't we make a film about romance rather than about wrestling crocodiles for once?"
Crocodiles? hahaha... The clown before you referenced kangaroos and koalas; seems you guys are quite sensitive--that isn't how the world sees you so cool it. And look, be honest, two girls in a department store engaging in banter in Melbourne calling a guy a "jerk," please... had they said "wanker" or "knob," I'd have believed it.
@kernelpaige "America's contribution to the world- romantic comedies... *clap clap*"
Wow, didn't take much for you to resort to this... Okay, well you could have also included in the internet and youtube (just for irony's sake), or the miracle of flight, the telephone/cellphone/iphone, not to mention method acting, jazz, blues, rock n' roll, hip-hop, rap, and the blue jeans and baseball cap you're probably wearing right now etc... but of course we're only talking about a movie..
@MattyJames25 I guess America does own all of western civilisation and its culture, idiot. To be honest, it's nice to see an australian film coming out that doesn't portray australians as hat-wearing, kangaroo hunting, boomerang throwing rednecks putting "shrimp" on the barbie, especially considering WE DON'T CALL THEM SHRIMP, THEY'RE CALLED PRAWNS
@roatk1 "I guess America does own all of western civilisation and its culture, idiot."
It is hard to argue with grammar like that...

This was the worst Aussie movie I have ever seen. So glad I had free tickets to it, I would die if I paid for it.
Fucking sucked BALLSSSSSS!

Feels like the only thing missing is a voice over announcing "Ten's hit new comedy".
This industry really is in desperate need of an anarchy injection.

That's the candy coated Melbourne. My city looks just the way the tourist board want it to look...
I'd rather watch old reruns of The Late Show if I wanted to see a decent representation of Melbourne.
Look up 'Postcard from shopping town'

Looks awful...
I liked the Castle, the dish, front line and such.
Yet, this new direction is questionable.
I can see they are basically copying the Hollywood method. Sure, its a safe bet. Yet still doesn't make the Australian Film industry look any better.
The character is already built so that we can't relate to him.
Successful at 27. Everyone loves him, with loads of money and girls.
It makes Josh Lawson look like he's actually in a movie called 'Mr Douche Bag's Adventure in Melbourne'.
