was this just one student or was it a team cuz i mean if one student did all the programing, circuitry, and built alt the parts and their design thats freaking impressive yo. mad props i cant wait till i get into my robotics classes for this stuff
Wow. I counted 14 servos (2 per leg, and 2 for the IR sensor on the front). That's impressive. I wonder what micro-controller they used, and if it had pins left for anything else.
I think it's 3 per leg and 2 for the head. (If you look closely, there's two servoes stuck together where the legs meet the body. And then one on the leg itself.)
@siiiirDevil This robot came from UWE (University of the West of England) and was demoed at a Tech event in Bristol, I filmed it while show off my stuff at that event.
This altho controlled by that bloke with the ps2/3 controller does stand out because of it's fluid movement. Most robots have that klunky movement. This looks great.
the best movie in 1984 was "Runaway" starring tom sellec featuring killer robot spiders that delivered hypodermic syringes filled with sulfuric acid to their victims.

@AdamSavage88 6 legs, THAT is your problem with this?
Spider = insect
Robot = metal.
We done now with the comments on how many legs a spider has?
pyrofer 4 months ago
This is the best robotic spider I've seen on YouTube thus far.
Lavakoizombieballs 6 months ago
Oh my gosh, All the robot spider's I've seen only have 6 legs! e_o

i am a playstation fan but wouldn´t it be nicer if it was a xbox controller?
and then put some green neon lights in the robot.
that would be nice :p

What's the white material called? It's some kind of elastic thermoplast.

That looks so cool even without two of his legs.I think it would be Cool two have one of those.:)

Oh how clever! I love the fluid way it moves. Much better than the human shaped ones. Wouldn't mind owning one. =)

can you get onto the robotics course via the one year engineering foundation year?

Dude, a dualshock haha! awsome, that totally just made my day =P

The legs are hand made using "Polymorph" the plastic you can shape yourself.

looks really cool. how did they get the parts for it, like the plastic legs?

So 20 servos all in all. :)

actually its 3 per leg. Looks closer.

Great robot. It moves more like an animal than a machine.

it only has 6 legs though ... but other than that, thats really sick, wish i took a robotics class so i could learn how to build one

@siiiirDevil Its not mine, They just brought it to demo.
Its a custom built one off using hand made parts.

why don't they make hex bug spiders for sale?
skullcid 2 years ago
They do. Many robot kit sites sell them, but they are generally quite expensive and not plug and play.
If your happy writing code to control 20+ servos using inverse and forward kinematics then its easy :)
Just google "hex robot kit"
