This gig was cool because the small venue made them recreate many songs with less gear than usual... Jonny, for example had no Ondes Martenot and no radio. So he had to do everything he could with the guitar.
I love how they really just play with the notes of the song...since the main bass riff is only made up of four notes, it's easy to bounce off of each other.
Such an amazing song. I have to say I do wish they toured with an entire horn section so they could play this song and especially like on the album...and Especially Life in a Glass House!!!
omfg.. johnny is bloddy brilliant... like fuck... does anybody have or know were to find the guitar tabs for THIS version? ... like omg... jesus. this is so good. the guitar is great.. its strange to belive its a guitar
thats for the wisdome (sarcasm).. and i do have a primative version of this.. but johny's shit is kinda hard.. its hard to belive hes even using a guitar the whole time.. but yeah i figured out yorks in a minute.. johnnys is out of my leauge.. i cant play with feed back that well yet
Ed uses an Ebow or sustain pickups depending on which guitar he's using (it's the pickups in this case) while Jonny get's that sound by playing with the side of a coin.
This song makes me wanna take a dump on the face of George W. and shake everyone one around me out of their trance. Fuck all these consuming robots of America. Thank god for this band and thank you Radiohead for putting this idea in such a sublime way. The statements made through great art like this will save humanity from itself. Buy a Radiohead album and help save our souls. Fuck Bush forever.
If you truly are ignorant enough to believe the people of America are nothing but sheep who follow Bush's lead than you don't deserve to listen to a band as open-minded as Radiohead. Consuming robots of America? One of the most oblivious posts I have ever read.
He didn't say that everyone in the US is a sheep following Bush's lead and a consuming robot. But let's face it, a quite large portion of the US population is precisely that. A newer car, a larger TV, a better computer...there's always more and better things to buy, to keep you in debts, to keep you occupied, to keep your mind off the things that really matter.
Besides Radiohead? Radiohead doesn't really matter, in the grand scheme of things.
Don't get me wrong, they're my favourite band, but...somewhere between 18000 and 25000 children die because of hunger EVERY DAY. That is about one child every 5 seconds. According to the UN 34000 children under 5 die every day from the poverty created by capitalism. This is just one of the things that "really" matter and that your government doesn't want you to think about.
Actually TiMira85...i'm proud to say that I do. Come to our side, things are good. Listen to the lyrics and maybe you can pick up on what they're vibing. Maybe everyone isn't a consuming robot but a vast majority is unfortunately.
I'm a full-blooded native american and proud to say that I hate this fucking country and all of it's spawn. Keep fighting for the monster and go down with the sinking ship. What do I care? Plenty of us to carry on the torch.
Be very conscious on where ever you put your money. Radiohead is completing the circle and putting more back into the society. They inspire...I'd support that with all my dough.
As far as Canada goes. That was taken from the indigenous too. My tribe use to go there at times. Mostly we are from here in what's now known as the U.S. Probably on the land you live. Maybe you should leave and stop arguing over pointless shit. Obviously you fall under the mindless consuming robot category or your panties wouldn't got all scrunched up. Are you a spawn too?
riiiight... but they're playing in malahide castle, ireland, in june... i have tix... it's been all over the radio and on the RH website...im pretty sure its legit
the later concert (2001 jools holland) is the absolute best live version of the national anthem, i urge all fans to see it, can't wait for the summer shows !
My god. Despite that little slip up at the beginning this version was amazing. Bass tone was out of this world. What I wouldn't give to go to a small Radiohead concert like that...
the clever thing about national anthem - which makes it different - is that the bass has swapped roles with the drummer. effectively the bass is driving the rythm so the drummer has been displaced.
more bass! what an absolute choon. interesting to hear it without the ondes as well, but jonny playing it on guitar is just as great. looking forward to this one in june.
Another song that's recorded too quietly....dammit! Makes for shitty uploads when using a mp3 converters!
