  • RJ's Holiday house in Coitesville Ohio , SOJOURN ! The Arcade right across the street from the YSU football stadium and left End Sunday nights ......... The Henry Paul Band ( later was with Blackhawk look them up on youtube ) at the arcade and at RJ's

  • @castnbash Henry Paul was/is also in The Outlaws.

  • There is a band from Alliance, Oh that should be a part of this. "Jimmy and The Soul Blazers" warmed up all the Motown acts at Canton's Memorial Auditorium in the 60's. They also did many shows with the Jaggerz at Geneva on the Lake. The gu;ys were up for a Motown contract which ended up going to Rare Earth. I later played with some of these guys and we opened up for Left End in Akron.

  • Left End was the most popular (except for maybe the Human Beinz before them) and my favorite. I also loved Menagerie, Blue Ash, Moose and Da Sharks, and George Wydell.

  • I was shocked to see the picture of Left End in the line up, I was in a band back then called Back Road Blue, I was 17 we opened for Left End at a show at the Weirton Milsop Center. Wish I would have thought to have someone record it, or take some photos. Great seeing the bands again,

  • Other members of Merry Christmas were Mike Delaney and Billy Lohr. I was at the Newton Falls Community center the night Mike smashed his white Les Paul with the gold trim.

  • Cool Story to tell about Mikes Les Paul...I still talk with him today.

    Jac

  • the guy in merry christmas was mike paccelli,(not sure about the speiiling).

  • What about MOLKIE COLE!!??!!??

  • Your right ,I still have another video of more bands from Northeast Ohio and Western Pa. in the works.

Paul Pope, Billy Sullivan and Donnie Iris also are included.............

  • or Coconut or Jesse Hart?

  • Yes ,I cant believe I forgot Coconut,Garys going to kill me.....:)

  • "Coconut" was my favorite band around Youngstown because they could play virtually anything. great lineup! That was early to mid seventies. I remember Sonny from Sacksville playing with "The Todd" and also this guy from "Merry Christmas" playing guitar behind his head a lot. I guess it was the little things.......

  • Does anyone know of a song/group that starts out with something like "to die wating', then it morphs into "waiting to die"? I thought it may have been It's a Beautiful Day? I think Dragonwick did TIME IS at the Viking, we were hangin from the rafters and dancin on the tables.

  • "It's a Beautiful Day"??? Damn..... I haven't heard that name in years! Only song by them I know of is "White Bird". Or was that by Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks? "To die waiting...waiting to die..." Could you maybe be thinking of "D.O.A." by Bloodrock? Dancin' on the tables at the Viking? How come I never got a table dance?? *frowns, then pouts*

  • I remember gettin into Glass Harp too at some campuses. There was a place called the Atomic Alps, but I cannot remember where it was, don't know how I got there or got home (like many of those fun nights)! I remember some Boston, Toto, BTO, and Led Zepplin covers there.

  • The Alps was on Rt 82 in North Royalton, was called The Woods the Dick Smith and Wayne Weston (Jickey Zaar band) bought it, had it as The Atomic Alps they renamed it The Chateau West for a year or so then sold it to some glitter dude named Tom something who ran it into the ground and then burned it down for the insurance money.

  • That was a great club. Back in the days before pictures were on drivers licences my two buddies and I would all get in on the same ID. Remember the licences in Ohio were pink for under 21 and blue for over 21? 3.2 beer?

  • I remember Myron trying to use an ID but he had red haid and was always caught...:)Myron Grombacher went on to play for such bands as Rick Derringer and of course Pat Benatar.I was at Myron house in Mahoningtown Pa. when he says to me he was quitting Derringer and was going with a new band...I couldnt believe it,Rick Derringer was Rockin and I said whats the name of the band,he said Pat Benatar,I said I never heard of him.He says its a chick! One of the most successful musicians from Cornersburg

  • The Viking Saloon....many fun nights there....saw Dragonwyck doing some King Crimson also.......I host a site "Youngstownsrocknrollhistory"[just Google].....All Northeastern Ohio and Western Pa.Rock and Roll Bands.......

  • Yup... ~~many~~ fun nights at The Viking Saloon! Do you have any video's of Atlantis Philharmonic? Only two guys in the band, and they were simply amazing. Their song "Woodsman" is just freakin awesome!! How about a video of "Sugar Boogie" by Molkie Coal? Just wondering..... do you know if "Record Conventions" are held anymore? Or where to look for info on them, or get on a mailing list for them? Record Convention = a show to buy/sell/trade vinyl albums and 45's. Thanks!!

  • Left End was billed as the Loudest Band in Ohio when their self titled LP came out in 1974. Loser and Spoiled Rotten were awesome tunes off that record. Bill Pettijohn was still performing with Moonlight Drive Band.

  • KILLER MAN OHIO ROCK KICK'S ASS!!

  • For a time in the early 70's, Left End was everywhere. I remember riding my bike past an Austintown shopping plaza in the summer of 72 and there was Left End playing on a flatbed truck. Later that year they played at a Canfield High School dance. I also recall seeing Blue Ash play summer concerts.

  • Northeastern Ohio had some great bands during the 1967-1970 era.

  • I have family in Hubbard, Canfield and Warren

  • I remember Dragonwyck at the Round table downtown Cleveland early 70's. A wall of Treynors, MOOG, some ELP, Doors, etc, great stuff! They did a fiddle thing, anyone know what it was? Man what a jam, and I'd like to hear it again. Last I heard Bill Pettijon played in Rocky River in the 90's.

  • Dragonwyck?!?!? I thought I was the only one who remembered them!! They were great. The only band I know of that covered Moody Blues tunes. I remember them playing at that dive bar (The Viking Saloon?) on Chester(?), next to a tire store, by CSU. Do you remember Atlantis Philharmonic? Only 2 guys in the band - Royce Gibson and ???. I have their album on vinyl -- a real treasure!! Was Left End the band with "Dennis T. Menass" as the lead singer? ~~~CLEVELAND ROCKS!!!!!~~~

  • Yep, we occasioned the Viking, but I don't remember much! I did see the AP at the Chesterland Hellofaballoo-magoo or whatever the heck it waz. I think they did some Tommy by the WHO. Post some of the LP! I also got drunk at the Spectrum on W117 in Flakewood.

  • AP may have done some Tommy, but I don't remember. I really don't recall what bands/songs they covered, but they did their own material, too. And no matter what they did, they rocked!! Post some of the LP? Huh?? How do I do that? *Certified Computer Dummy* here. And "Flakewood"??? LOL!!!!!!! But wouldn't "Fruitwood" be more accurate?

  • I have a mixer (with mag phono input) patched into my 'line in' on my sound card. If your record player is connected to a receiver, you can use its tape or line outs into the computer's sound card line input stereo jack (an ipod or 'y' cord with stereo 3.5mm on one end and two RCA plugs on the other). I also have my sound card OUT patched into my hifi system. Then download (google) AUDACITY free software, makes your confuser work like a recorder. I use a TV card for aud/vid input.

  • nice tribute !

  • I was born in youngstown,ohio1953

  • As were myself and my twin brother, who played guitar. Buckeyes Rock! Gemini's too!
