  • Slowed down and stripped of Nick Drake's idiosyncrasies, this version takes the simplicity of the song's structure and makes it.... boring.

  • What the fuck is wrong with Beck?!?!

  • Um, I think this a labor of love for Beck. He respects Nick and probably Nick would have respected him if he'd lived long enough.

  • Beck raps too much. When he sings, he sings fantastic.

  • This killed my Disco Fever... -.-'

  • blasphemy

  • beck is oke you know

  • Wonderful song and wonderful version...

    Marco Maggiore

  • I am coming to kill you now! Muuuahhhhhhahaa! Yeah, Nick wrote it and there is nothing like his voice and connection to the piece. Beck's recording was raw and good; an excellent homage to the poet and writer Nick Drake.

  • dont kill me, but I think Beck's version is actually better.. it's really genious, very cool groove & use of arrangement. but maybe thats because of those ads where Drake's song was used..

  • I have this song from both Drake and Beck on my favorite's list I love them both!!!

  • I have this song from both Drake and Beck on my favorite's list

  • was nick drake self taught

  • where can I find this version its wonderful

  • One brilliant artist showing respect to another. Very nice.

  • This is awful it neither captures Drake or anything for that matter. It is as if he couldn't figure out the proper tuning or the chord progression so he just hammered off some awful dissonant chord.I think it is almost disrespectful how bad it is.

  • @rhaastaa Wow Rhastaa, I wonder if you're still as rude and as big of a jackass now as you were 5 hours ago...Beck too opted to play it in an easy way, and in a way unlike the recording... as did that other guy...Hypocrite alert!!!!!

  • @rhaastaa We call you a troll

  • @ClassicRocker30 OH MY GOD SOMEONE DISAGREES WITH YOU. ATTACK THEM.

  • @rhaastaa cant agree more

  • well i dont know much about nick drake but beck is legendary, this sounds awesome, definitely not a slaughter, you people dont know shit about a good song getting slaughtered

  • @SloanKetering So was Drake he hung his self after his third album. He was a manic depressive, from Cambridge. The same English City that brought you Pink Floyd.Drake played guitar with his long finger nails.Think it gave him that unique sound.Guitar players used to go into shops, saying I want to sound like Nick Drake.Thinking he was using something to get that sound.Bye he was just using his talent, musically emotionally and spiritually. You should check out his albums. He was not really famous then.

  • @legandrydirk He did not hang himself. He died of an overdose of anti depressants.

  • @pumazpawz What ever he still topped himself, bad news as he was talented.

  • Lest we forget(yawn..) CYBERSPACE remains open fodder to abuse, insanity and INFINITE IGNORANCE....From elaborate conspiracy theories to open-faced facism from dimwits(usually kids in mom's basement) proclaiming that oppressive protocol must be enforced and freedom of artistic expression in the form of such high crime as covering/singing an artists songs should be militarily banned. Seriously kids, get outta the basement, get some air and light, and grow a brain, you'll thank me one day......

  • I was perturbed when i saw that someone would try to sing this! But i kinda like it..

  • i like drake better, but this aint bad

  • Fuck Beck!

  • Tears, man, tears.

  • I think a cover done well, whoever the Artist is a tribute and a testement to the original artist. the thing about opinions they are like bum holes every bodies got one !!!!

  • Comment removed

  • I like Beck and get the tribute meant by the cover, but some songs should be left alone. There`s a reason Arethra and Marvin aren`t covered very much

  • Never knew of this cover... both of them are great :)

  • Geniuses. Kindred spirits. Intersection. Love it. Not a mimic, but a tribute. The world is a better place for both of them having been part of it. Thanks, Beck. Thanks, Nick. Thanks intersection. Let there be more.

  • @hypergrl66 if you want to hear more intersection between beck and nick drake... listen to sea change.

  • wonderful Interpretation of a wonderful song .. Nice work Beck !

  • totally apallingsounds like slowed down cock rock utterly crapulous these are your crimes

  • I like Beck and everything, but I don't think there's any artist who could do Drake justice.

  • I actually like both versions- Nick's version is more wistfully sad and clean but Beck's seems to be more emotionally raw, which isn't a bad thing.

  • didnt know this existed wow beck doing drake groovy I would of rather him do it than some modern rapping bubble gum rocker do this

  • There are copycats and original artists. Beck rulez..

  • Thanks Beck - nice tribute to Nick!!!

  • hell nah nick drake better

  • Hey, at least he tried . . .

  • i like nick drakes better. but this is still great:D

  • Magnifica canzone. Ottima interpretazione...

C'è amore! Bravo Beck e mitico Drake.

  • beautiful tribute to Nick Drake.

  • Great!

  • Damn, Beck.

    Thanks.

  • I love Beck

  • Not bad, but it's pretty much an imitation of the song, not an interpretation

  • Awesome

  • I like Beck and it's an okay cover but I don't think he suits a song like this, doesn't really sound all that sincere.

  • i love nick drake, but this cover isnt anything special

  • @llove63

I agree, I love Nick Drake and I like Beck, but his cover is kinda bland and unoriginal.

  • i'm not crazy about this cover...

  • Beck should stick to scientology

  • @deathlikesilence710 youare kidding me? Has Beck fallen in with that crowd of brainwashing thieves?

  • @swfcocs1 That happened a while ago, unfortunately.

  • Worthy.

  • on another level :)

  • Beck isn´t there... Not a good cover. The sweetness is all GONE and the "sadness" of this version is a little "theatrical".

  • @clorofilazul Seriously? I'll leave it at that.

  • I don´t know if its seriously. But I know its Truthfully, because its what I feel.

    @Diem66

  • Pink Moon fail...

  • What a downer - Beck's version makes me want to go and slit my wrists - ugh ) :

  • @MaybeWeAintUs how is it possible that the original didn't?

  • im so bias here because i have such a deep love nick drakes music. it saw me through some of the lower parts in my life which is why i probably am not the best person to judge this. but opinions are what they are and mine does not look favorably to this cover.

ps ive heard others do covers of nick and pull it off gracefully

  • @carlose0318 referring to Beck as a band implies you having no clue what the fuck you are talking about.

  • @carlose0318 i respect your right to hate beck, but i am curious, why'd you listen to this? did you just wanna be sure they would ruin this song?

  • Wasn't sure about this for the first minute or so. After that, it started to resonate with, particularly when the piano melody came in. It's a great song and I think Beck has a nice take on it...

  • tbh i thought this cover version was terrible :( but i guess theres nothing like the original !

  • I listened to the Beck covers of Nick Drake songs and didn't care for Beck's versions. I love Nick Drake and one of the reasons is because he wasn't self conscious as Beck is. Beck drags the songs down with his heavy-handed arrangements and over emoting. Drake, like Dylan, doesn't overdo the emotion; he says what he has to say and moves on. Drake also was an interesting guitarist but Beck's interest is not in the guitar but in electronics and gimmicks and his own dead-weight voice. Thumbs down.

  • @canteluna wow well put

  • WAIT!!!

Nick playing this for me in his bedroom?

Beck playing a cover of this for me in his bedroom?

If you do not know understand, you don't know NICK!

  • Sheesh!!!

    I forgot to rate.

    3.6

  • This is THE song that gets people hooked and turned-on to this "thoughs who know" underexposed treasure.

As far as covers... I enjoy the Sebadoh version.

Although extremely differant, they give you the same satisfaction.

Or maybe I just love Drake and read to much into Barlow!

    Suck It.

  • if you want hear a nice rocked out version of this song, check out WALT MINK... from about 1990..

  • Comment removed

  • Let's get a few things straight. Nick Drake was truly great. Beck is also a musical genius. THE POINT OF A COVER IS NOT TO "OUTDO" THE ORIGINAL, but rather, to pay tribute or show respect for a piece of work the covering artist likes (or wants to make money on, which is not the case for this cover). Anyone who knows anything about beck knows that he is very diverse and has no problem writing original material. He did not "butcher" Drake's song. It's a different interpretation, like it or not.

  • @gringusmaximus : In addition to (your) reasons an artist records a cover, I would include the desire to reach, or gain the respect or attention of a particular audience. Perfornance and "interpretiation" aside, merely the CHOICE to cover a particular song can be done with the intent to convery a message. It's choice "reveals" something about themselves that they want to communicate or be associated with..whether its true/genuine or not.

  • Of course it is not as good as the original but it is faithful. I like it. It will grow on me. But it will never replace what was lost.

  • This, just like all other Nick Drake covers, SUCKS. There is one person who you, due to the sincerety of his songs, do NOT cover. It is Nick Drake. Some things are better left unruined. Unoriginal musicians should try to interprete or emulate someone else.

  • @EtienneHauser You're crazy. Don't be a music elitist.

  • Please take this down, it's embarrassingly bad, really!

  • i think beck gets it but ya cant cover someone like nick and expect to be better, you do cuz you love the song, are insired by the musicality and i guess as long as beck likes it thats all that matters

  • oh god this is truly terrible

  • nope

  • Oh he definitely butchered this one bad.

  • nick drake is a better guitar player by far...

  • ITS NOT FUCKN BECK

  • I like me some Beck, but this was a mistake.

  • He butchered this.

  • oh...

    my...

    god...

my love of BECK gets stronger every fucking day

  • This is inspiring. Now I can do any cover how ever the fuck I like since Beck had enough balls to do it this way.

  • pleased to hear becks cover of nick drakes song-nice match

  • hey ... there is this early beck album that has more acoustic folk influence - anyone know what it was? i'm pretty sure it was early, like the 1994 era.

  • @threelegduck "Maybe try One Foot in the Grave"

  • Haha! Gotta laugh at all the Nick Drake die-hards.

  • FUCKING AWESOME....I can't think of any other artist who can do justice to their deep respect for Drake without immiating him

BRAVO Beck, you are a true original man; no one fucks with your crazy ass brilliance

  • @Wavelength247 I'd have to, respectfully, disagree with your opinion that no other artist, except "Beck" , could "...do justice to their deep respect for Drake without immiating him." Hhmm. Are you saying this is a truly, original, interpretation of the song? Because, I don't see much difference from Drake's arrangement. So, Is your declaration of his orginality and brilliance based on this example of Beck's eclecticism or his decision to record this track?

  • @Wavelength247 "Beck's" drummer was stolen from a band called "Walt Mink." They recorded "Pink Moon" twice. You can find it on the "Miss Happiness" album on Caroline, released in 1992. It's truly an original interpretation of the song. Clearly, a tribute to this relatively obscure artist and his music. I feel Beck's recording of the song is like stealing a unique car. Then, not only claiming you built it, but that the awesome cd collection, that you found in the trunk , was yours as well.

  • good cover.. like it

  • a beautiful cover

  • an interesting cover, but honestly haven't we heard better covers by amateurs here?

  • killer Beck. Honestly, not Nick Drake but decent.

  • "..... pink moon gonna get you all..."

Pink moon is a sign of the apocalypse. Watch for it in a sky near you.

  • @vveq thanks for the tip, will keep an eye out O_o (this should so be played on all the radios and tv's just before the end that would be fantastic XD

  • Wow, es fantástico...

  • Shitty

  • Different feel. Cool.

  • wow

  • No-Man's cover > Nick Drake's original > Beck's cover. though all are noteworthy.

  • sounds great.

  • @theallfaith we got lucky that people took alot of photo's of him so we can draw such comparisons... i think irish comedian tommy tiernan put it best when he said that if jesus is still alive, he's without a doubt in the beegees.

  • Reason I don't care about him doing this is because I thought "SeaChange" was one of the albums of the decade.

  • it dont beat nick's but it sure as hell is a good song

  • way better thank what i expected

  • It's not as good as Nick's, but it's not bad at all. Stop crying babies.

  • It's just rather...meh.

Other than a display of fandom (and Beck's entitled to just be a fan sometimes), it doesn't differ from any other YouTube acoustic cover of Drake's songs.

  • Very astute observation. You would think that someone who has so heavily borrowed Drake's sound on his slower songs would have tried a bit harder on this cover. Like I say, I am an overall fan of Beck.

  • As an avid Nick Drake fan and admire, I dont care who, or how you sing any of Nick's songs. It's the lyrics. They are so beautiful and moving that in any way, shape or form that you sing it, its going to be amazing. I liked this a lot.

  • @killianz Bitch.

  • Rip OFF !!!!!!

  • I'd like to kick Beck 'til he pissed blood.

  • Well, I think Beck is out of his depth here. He is one of my favorite contemporary artists but he sort of stepped into 600 leagues of ocean without a flipper.

If he was singing this out by a campfire somewhere I'm sure Drake fans would have been appreciative rather than appalled.

  • beck sings pink moon like a pink asshole. stick with your pink under wear. Leave mr. Drake alone.. Peace..

  • I fucken hate Beck and this shit is so fucked up, he took a beautiful song and slaughtered it =[

  • A nice respectful cover - lighten up ffs ...

  • this is awful.

  • probably doesn't add anything to the song (as an interpretation), but it's not awful.

  • You can't expect the brain-atrophied masses to comprehend nuance or context; thus opinions being like(a nether-region!) everyone is entitled to their own orifice.

Covers should never be pantomime(replicas/copes)one only hopes that they aspire to a unique and AWESOME interpretation of a composition, as this clearly IS....

SONG being the keyword here kids; Beck is interpreting the SONG not the singer...use some critical judgement and grow a brain; it'll do wonders for your hipster cachet :)

  • I remember I was feeling down as hell, so I smoked a fat Indica joint, listened to some Nick Drake/Beck and man was I feeling BETTER.

    Life made more sense.

  • @DuoSonic87 That's just about the most finest comment I have ever read.

  • That's awesome :)

  • @DuoSonic87

    So you missed the point?

  • Big fan of Beck since Stereo; I can understand why Beck thinks he needed to cover Nick; but this is a poor effort. Nick's version is spectacular; a classic. Beck's: forgettable.

  • I, too, really like Beck but this is quite forgettable as you said...awful really.

  • @SHRINA17 fuck you

  • I'm not really a fan of any of these covers, none of these really find their own voice. I want to say that says more about Nick Drake than Beck but, without getting too excited, I think these are just intended as fandom. I don't think they've even appeared on an album. But perhaps maybe, these covers could be used to speak to a Beck listener, and direct them to Nick Drake. And maybe they would do a good job of that. I know that was how I found out about Nick Drake, only a few years ago.

  • get the hell back where you came from you dianetics - scientology freak

  • Ugh, can't stand Beck's mundane voice compared to Nick Drake's on this.

  • Don't listen then man, it's simple.

  • The original is way better. Faster.

  • Hmmm...I don't know what to think about it. I have a lot of respect for Nick Drake. It's too bad that he couldn't get past the fact that people are always judging, and in turn alienating each other. I also am a huge Beck fan as well. If you haven't heard anything off of Sea Changes, I'd recommend it. This song is done in a very characteristically "Beck" way. I do happen to like the Nick Drake version better, but I'm down to hear anyone's interpretation of any artist I love. Open arms!

  • This is a fine Scientologist intepretation of the original... muahaha.....

  • HA!!

  • the guys commenting below me are idiots. Beck obviously recorded this out of love for Drake's music, not hate for it. It is a different version, but what do you expect, Beck to just completely copy another artist? I don't think so. He made it his own while keeping it's integrity, and I think Nick Drake would enjoy it. Beck Hansen is a genius who does justice to every genre.

  • This cover is craptastic. It's good that people pay tribute to Drake but I mean come on.. this is complete JUNK. Not sung with the emotion and intensity that Nick Drake did... shame on Beck.

  • fuck this cover...absolute shit compared to the original.

  • Too slow...the original fires me up!!

  • Magic maybe. But not as far as the original guitar work.

Even with a great voice interpretation behind the Original.

  • Very nice cover of a truly great song. Glad I stumbled upon it.

  • Thanks for posting!

  • Magic!

  • nothing really can match the brilliance of perhaps Nick Drake's best song... but this was a very nice cover. I was already a Beck fan and this only makes me more so. Does anyone know if/where this recording was released?

  • Beck really does a reverent and earnest treatment here. Bravo.

  • @mitislumen

Yeah I was kind of surprised - I enjoyed this.

  • @mitislumen No, fuck you.

  • Did not know he did this cover, very nice.

  • Wow this version is really good compared to his Parasite cover of Drake's. It almost as good as Drake's but what kind of put me off was the pink, pink...etc part. Great song 3.5 out 4 in my opinion :)

  • im just really starting the see nick influence on beck and ive just realised its really really quite a BIG ONE

i always find if i like an artists influences that influences how i listen to them

in that i hear a certain quality and in my head think oh he's doi gnthat because he loves that other person band that i love

and it makes me feel good

  • I can't believe some people's total ignorance, it's such a pain to have to see that kind of ignorant dreck on music posts. A cover is a tribute to a loved/respected song that is the interpretor's own vision of it, and Beck knocks it out of the park as per usual, just a great atmosphere that he creates with it...

  • I said no prob, chill...amnesty is granted.

    No worries mate(enough already!...)

  • Artists perform covers of other composers material out of respect, and admiration......not malice.

  • Okay, well that explains it.....you're a 16yr old kid, You get some amnesty, but just consider that it's not cool to fabricate things about people at random, show a little respect and accountability.

    No worries mate,

  • I happen to be a big fan of beck, i'm not undermining anything.

  • Why? So that he would be deceased at a young age and unable to participate as a father to care for his two young children growing up?

WTF dude....Top marks for ignorance A+ Congrats chump....

  • musically of course. not personally. I guess you get top marks for ignorance for assuming something as odd as that. Congrats chump.....

  • Stop stealing MY lines chirpie and get yer own(haha) Learn to write more comprehensively darling before you spew forth such nonsense. Just a suggestion honey so chillax. Perhaps you could further expound on your cultivated ignorance, and enlighten us all, because we don't understand what motivates you, and exactly what you gain by randomly undermining someone's creativite integrity with your fabricated and delusional b.s.?....

  • Way to be a complete hypocrite.

  • nice! was not aware of this! anyone know where its from? album?

  • iI'd like to see the moaners do better.

I respect Nick Drake and Beck for producing decent and thought-provoking music, and so should you.

  • i liked it, just cos it isnt nick drake doesn't make it shit. if all you criticizing him, analogy is correct don't ever try to play this song cos it will suck, or if your going to, just remove all creative merit from yourself and just copy nick drake. find a new god please.

  • Keep having to revisit to get my fix,- since it's not available to purchase....if you're a die-hard(or just browsing)all cool peeps are welcome to visit my LIFEONPLANETBECK channel.....

    cheers,

  • I like the base (or whatever instrument) part on this track.
