While driving from Ca to Va to see our grand kids--we stopped at a McDonalds for breakfast.Behind us was 3 people talking a strange language---Navajo.We got up,and looked at the people---the elder had a hat on-with the Marine logo,so I asked if he was a code talker,,,his reply was yes.All I could do was shake his hand and say thank you while I looked him in the eye.It was a honour for me to meet this man.My girl said thank you-placed a kiss on his cheek.
@48Pocahantas You should be very, VERY honored regarding your heritage. Thank you, thank your grandfather for what he did for our country! I am 1/4 Native Pima; I will ALWAYS honor Ira Hayes and these other Natives and what they did. Your grandfather was one of the men who saved our land! <3
@karmsan I love your culture to! Everytime I research the code talkers it makes me cry with pride for them! I also love the accent that they have when they talk! Thank you code talkers for saving many American lives during the Pacific battles of WW11!
I was born the year these Real Heroes were fighting. We have our freedom today because of the job they did. I wish I had the money to build that museum. I would build it myself. I have a tear in my eye and a lump in my throat. Navajo Code talkers, I salute you.
im full blood navajo, and i grew up on the rez and i moved to cali and everything was so different and in my U.S History class the teacher didnt talk about the Navajo Code Talkers and i ask the teacher if he could talk about them and everyone in the class did not know about them and they were surprise and very interested about them
these men did a real fine job during ww2 and I couldnt have said it any better about what their about and how couragous they are to american history and just superb gents, I would definitly consider visiting that museum if built :D
posters ; quit your whining, grab a your video camera and take one or two of these gents out for lunch and let them tell their more personal stories on video . your museum is only a utube upload away .quite waiting for the govt to do everything, they screw it up anyway.
im actually shocked that these heros havent been immortalized in some sort of MUSEUM. their "own" people havent even set up a museum to remember instead they wait until theyre slowly dying off with old age then they decide there is an urgency to build a museum. i would have assumed the museum wouldve been built years years years ago. they shouldve tried to preserve their heroism so the heros couldve seen how they played a true part in the war before they died.
We haven't set up a museum on the rez simply because it is hard to get the codetalkers to open and tell their stories. The ones who do talk about it are few. Another problem is there isn't money to build one.
@ShadowFox3788 There is enough money to fill the pockets of shady politicians in Window Rock, I'm sure there is enough to build a lasting symbol to these Codetalkers. So John.
Other kids would dress like Superman and Batman for Halloween, but I was always a Navajo Code Talker. The sad thing is, I could have sworn they got more candy than I did, on top of that, they threw loose wrappers on the ground.
The entire US Armed Forces is overstaffed, overbudget, and dealing with Fort Wood incidents too often.
They refused my enlistment because of all these factors and my prior medical history. They will most likely not even think about this memorial for a good 5 years.
