@MultiDKenny hah sure they may look tired, it's a rehearsal, compadre! this is where it begins, not where it ends. no need to waste undue energy or make any stage antics - and they still sound terrific ;-)

Well, like us, Paul listened to records and was influenced by singers like Rick and Elvis. I take his singing the tune as a tribute. Good on ya, Paul!
Western style of singing on a acoustic guitar with his rich baritone voice in a echo chamber which was perfect for his voice! It gave his voice a haunting and sad quality to it which was perfection! I still think Paul McCartney had a right to pay homage to a fallen artist after all
I saw the Ricky Nelson and Bob Dylan's version. None of the two can be compared with the interpretation that Paul MCCartney gave to this song. He is really a genous.
@Bleigans i disagree ,you can NEVER improve on the original version, even though this cover is good, ricky nelson OWNS this song its the same w remakes of movies ,the original is always best, but if u werent around for ricky nelson doing it ,i could see ppl choosing this
Genious how Paul left Rick's legendary version alone and made his own "lonely" wail out of it. Yeah Ricky would be proud. David Gilmour's solo is tasteful, perfect.
I only wish Paul was playing acoustic guitar, Klaus Voorman on the bass, David Gilmour on lead guitar, George Martin on piano, and last but not least, Ringo! on the drums. That, I think, would be the best representation of this and many other songs.
This song is very wonderful. This "little cry" that Paul MC'Cartney does in some parts of the lyrics are the real sensations of this song. The first time I heard this song (in the first 30 sec) I already knew that this song would be a masterpiece and I wasn't wrong. And without comments about the solo David Gilmour also does. I've already heard this song for 40 repeated times and I didn't get bored yet. How genious are these men. God bless them.
Oh, and I also like Paul with a little silver in his hair, rather than the shoe-polish stuff he's used more recently. Go silver Paul... it suits your wisdom. It's handsome.
Paul McCartney singing Ricky Nelson... Wow. I find this rendition very dear... a real tribute to the lengendaary Rick from the legendary Paul... Sweet.
what a voice !!!

Also, I'm a performer, and i've always done this song,
and done it more like Rick did it. So I guess I have
a connection with that.

After a 2nd listen, I must say, it's not
so bad. It's a different take on the song,
and I still like Rick's better, but it
has something going for it.

@MultiDKenny Well, it's hardly an upbeat party style number. Sad and kind of depressing, but a lot of people can relate.

it was so amazing becuase he felt it-
he felt the music from his sadness.

Ricky Nelson sung this song in a Country &
Western style of singing on a acoustic guitar with his rich baritone voice in a echo chamber which was perfect for his voice! It gave his voice a haunting and sad quality to it which was perfection! I still think Paul McCartney had a right to pay homage to a fallen artist after all
he has his favorite singers and songs too!

no Ricky Nelson. However a great choice of material.

I think the song loses its impact sung in the higher register, and done in a bluesy style. Paul is great, but this isn't his best work.
