What an amazing songwriter. I also am amazed at how his voice has changed over the years. Here he's nearly a tenor. His late career, he's bass. I like his early songs, his later voice.
I heard this song when I was in my school...the voice was so haunting and the words so simple yet so profound....never ever I was able to forget the song. Almost after 25 years I am able to see the video ...thanks forever...the voice is so God like
You know they're really old when they've got hardcoded subtitles in the music video.. :s Thank god later people realized lyrics by default better be left not translated because they aren't prose.
What is between your fingers? Can't be a babytooth? Is it a lemon seed? or is it an orange seed from 1966??? an orange seed from 1967? No one keeps orange seeds. Well, I collect seeds but that's a different story. So what is it?
Maybe it is not a love song to you or Leonard, but it sure is a love song for me. I know this because I can feel strike a note in my heart. It is a wonderful song.
Suzanne is NOT a love song. Suzanne, from the Northern bush of Canada, where she lives without electricity and indoor plumbing is still amazed every time she opens the fridge door, the meat is nicely wrapped. She didn't have to go and hunt an animal down and drag it back. Wow! And tea from China...Wow! and oranges from Florida, Wow! Her knees are locked and knocking together. God! She's alone. Now what? HE is so down on everything & everyone..Chinese, negro, indian, (just tip toe out),
He grits at the phrase "perfect mind" doesn't he? Question: Did Suzanne ever invite you for tea and oranges? She was not the aggressor was she? Perfect people should pick perfect people. Suzanne is in love with the dove...everyone knows this!!! Dah!
Oh Sentiment. This rewind goes out to D.I. in Palm Springs...and the heroes and the children "in the seaweed"... Thanks for the tea and oranges at the 14th and Patterson house D.I.
I knew a girl like that and her name was also Suzanne... she got me on her wavelength and then sailed me down the river... now I yearn for her tea & oranges from China... speak to me Lenny I am listening.

Normally I dislike artists who allow their tickets to be overpriced, but not so for Leonard Cohen. The reason is because he lost almost ALL his money when his manager died, and all his money disappeared and no one could find it.
@demravager Oh I know all about that. I was a research editor when it happened and I have all the clippings. So I understand why his prices where high. He had no money. Sadly, his finance manager (an ex lover) also stole personal items such as letters he had kept as well.
@TheOwl54 never in my life have i listened to an artist that has made my soul feel a blending of both joy and sorrow all in the one song.man this guy is mega talented

Read the lyrics without the music. It reads like a really good poem.
If your eyelids don't get wet when you listen to this song you have no soul.
