Not everyone has a luxury of good sailing weather year around. Up here in the Scandinavia and of course other northern countries it can be freezing cold for many months.
The display must have been much larger than this.....A projector may be.
Yeah, I can understand that it is not real sailing...but having had a go on one, they handle almost exactly the same as a laser and they are really fun. Probably made to see if it could be done, not to claim absolute simulation of sailing. No need for swearing about it....public displays of anger make you look slightly foolish - but you are allowed an opinion :o) would still prefer to just go out on my dinghy.
This was developed for training purposes; for olympic level athletes like Krystal, not recreation or general sale. The point is to provide a realistic, boat-specific, condition-specific workout (she can't always be on the water).
As for the cost, I'm sure it costs quite a bit but it's not the athletes that would have to pay for it, it would most likely be their national teams!
I don't think this was meant for gaming or private entertainment. Believe they made it for professionals to train and experience stuff, so they can learn things about (for example) really bad weather situations, without getting themselves killed in the process. Think it's a very nice job they've done, looks like it works pretty well.
this is nothing like real sailing, the screen is so small and it isn't showing the view seen from actually sitting in the laser which would make it so much more confusing. I think im' just gonna take the 5-6 minutes to rig up.
Im sorry but i dont think this could ever match sailing on water!
You only have the tiller and sheet to cope with. In a sailing environment there are a lot more variables with wind and tide along with more controls for optimum sail shape!
Cant see this catching on myself, think i would rather go down the club and set my sail boat up

Are you sure?
I have noticed a few times in the video that anyone tacking a laser as seen here would come into contact with the boom several times!
As for most Olympic athletes who sail Lasers, do they not use a hiking bench? And why cant Krystal be on the water all the time? Its only dedication and practice that will make her an Olympian ;-)

training for competitive sailing ( muscular strength training ) is the hardest thing.
you can not just go in a regular fitness studio and train the same muscles as you would sailing this is a good workout tool for any racing sailer.
it is not meant to simulate real on the water sailing. it is meant for strength workout

This is bullshit, real sailing ftw!

Great video for watching how the a top sailer handles the tiller and sheet through tacks and gybes. Thanks.

It's not real without the boat pitching, waves coming over the deck into the cockpit and getting your butt soaked on a header.

this is boring, it's boring, and you don't have the risks of sailing. You should hit other boats because you dont have damadge

@aggressiveman666 ya it is kind of a joke... but what if you live in the middle of the mainland, and have to try and sail around in a frozen lake?
