Although American Idol professes to be the search for a pop star, the pop music charts are too small for Melinda's God-given talents. This IMO was the performance in which Melinda demonstrated beyond all doubt that she would have a long and prosperous career. By making a classic show tune her own, especially after conquering My Funny Valentine, Melinda proved that she was and is that rare diamond among the coals.

For me, Melinda Doolittle was different to any other contestant that has so far appeared on American Idol. Not only does she have a Sweet Voice and Magical Delivery... she is the "Finished" Pro. All others have had Potential only.

And whilst most are finding it difficult to live up to that potential, I feel, like a good wine, Melinda is going to mature even more as time goes by...!!

I guess I missed her saying that. But, so much has happened since she was at the 24 point. She has grown so much as a performer and I don't believe at this point she would be satisfied or challenged enough to go back to doing solely background. She may have made this statement thinking if she didn't get far enough in the competition past the top 24 that she would go back to BGV. But, Melinda, you are too far past that stage now to look back!

No female singer in the past 40 to 45 years, (precision would give my name away), has started her career this strongly. I'm a life-long music nut, and this lady is like a time-machine, taking us all forward 10 years to the height of her career. And youtube need a balanced approach to allowing or not allowing a video; at a time of great distress for many people, pointless voyeuristic videos are all over the site. Please do not watch them.
