Have tried and tried and tried. The prying tools simply shred and I can't get the backplate to pry off. I'm guessing some iPods are stuck together too tight to pry apart.
My broken 5th gen when I opened it up, a little black square piece fell out. It has some copper wire in the middle of it and it looks like there's another one near where the hard drive connects. I don't know where this piece goes or if I have to replace something else. One of my kid's friends left it here a couple years ago because it didn't work and I'm not exactly sure what the problem is. When I brought it to the apple store they told me it needed a new hard drive so I have one on the way.
I used this video to help me replace my battery. Everything went fine so far as long as you do not rush and take your time. Do not rip the old battery off because the headphone connector wire is underneath the old battery and mine got a little stuck. If you take your time and pry the old battery off because it is glued on tight, you should be good to go! Thanks!
Thanks for the video. I also found it difficult to prise the old battery out as it was glued in pretty tight. As a pointer I found it easier to open up the case with a guitar pick rather than the tool provided.
i have ipod 120gb, i just ordered new screen thinking my problem was the screen but still its stuck in black screen. windows recognizes it in DFU mode and then itunes pops up annd recovers it thats all it does... nothing happens afterward!!!! btw headphone jack and battery are missing so not connected.
@futurerockstr16 i changed my battery out already and it didnt erase the music. All the music is stored in the hard drive even when there is no power. the battery was double sided taped on there pretty good.... the scary part was prying it out without damaging anything, but all went well.
i put the ipod classic battery in the ipod video, is that ok? it seems to give me the "low battery" indicator, but i've only left it in there for a min or two.
Is there any difference between the 5th gen 30gb ipod video battery and the 80gb ipod classic battery? Or they are just the same? I was just planning to buy a higher capacity battery for my 80gb ipod classic.
Do you guy fix cracked screen and how much money ????

That was pretty easy! The hardest part was getting the new battery tab in place. I was scared I was going to break it. Very helpful video. Thanks!

@marcusguerrero so the battery is working well? that's good. i don't want to buy one and then have it die the first day.

Do you mean the battery connector on main board was broken? if so,you have to go to change the connector first. the data will not be lost.
