there are still people around talking about "prog rock" and even puit genesis into that corner -- what the hell is "prog rock", what defines it except some journalist cliche categories ? tell me ? is every band playing no blues/hard rock/punk a prog band? are late 70ies zeppelin prog? are elp prog? or just a trio of madmen? are beatles prog? i mean they were considered the most progressive band ever.........

@MoveOverCasanova "Progressive" is defined by it's artistic tendencies in both composition and (sometimes) lyrics. It can reference classical (Yes referenced Stravinsky and even played Firebird Suite at the start of their shows.) Genesis had long songs that attempted stories in operatic fashion. ELP was doing similar work. The Beatles, despite the progressive tendencies of The White Album, were much more of a straight rock n roll band. Zep, a blues-based, hard rock band. Does that help?

WOW,, so I am a die-hard Genesis fan from 1977 Seconds Out. I just dont see how Gabriel leaving hurt this band. Watch Phil sing in 1977... he just sings better...

And money and stupid people definetly ruined prog rock all the best bands sold out in the 80's because people just weren't smart enough to grasp Rush,Yes or Genesis until they made commercial friendly hits and honestly if you were them you would have probably done same thing you don't have to work as hard making pop music and you get paid more.

Because so many different countries loved progressive rock in the 70's especially Italy, the interviews are over dubbed. On one such interview with "Gentle Giant" in Italian pissed me of because at some key points in the interview I want to hear what the fuck they're saying... In ENGLISH dammit. I love Italians! I'm not racist. the best Progressive Rock lovers ever.

Well that was just Steve's presence. I liked that he didn't run around and act crazy like a lot of guitarists do. He concentrated entirely on the music, and that's something to be admired.

As for Phil, maybe his bum was just sore.
