  • @Natio741 Jimi played a LES paul Flying V in Woodstock Festival.

  • i`ve seen a foto of Jimi Hendrix playing a 1954 Les Paul Custom with the staple alnico pickup on neck and P-90 on bridge upside down.I don`t know if he just borrowed that or was sitting in but that foto is out there.by his outfit and hat i say it was around 1968..

  • Nice piece of kit, but a straight strat's better..

  • Sin comentarios...

  • Sin comentarios...

  • On the opening track "communication breakdown", Jimmy Pages plays a... '58 telecaster !

  • @pascallier and on gibson les paul jimmy page edition

  • and fuck NEIL YOUNG

  • bonnie raitt uses a strat! WTF IS SHE SAYIN'? GEEZ!

  • Not many remember all that Les Paul & Mary Ford contributed to our music! So much talent in two people! ♥

  • Is it possible to avoid the google commercials? I want to find the X button.

  • Les Paul Was A Genius: R.I.P.

  • Everyone... The point of them showing people with strats as well, is because they also played Les Pauls. Don't get so anal just because they couldn't obtain the rights or find footage of them playing Les Pauls or something. However, Page did use a Tele on Communication Breakdown. I think that was a mistake :P

  • yeah,so was i.but don't forget jimmy

    also used a treblebooster too!

  • COMMUNICATION BREAKDOWN!!!!!!! which, ironically was played on a telecaster with fuzz.. :P

  • Dang. Was just about to say the same thing. Don't forget the Supro amp!

  • And The Who My Generation 1968, Pete Townshend used a Fender Strat for that too. Haha.

  • oh right forgot about that one. :P i love that video btw, good song, good guitar smashing.

  • It showed Jimi Hendrix (who as far as I know never used a les paul) burning his strat. I guess they're trying to make us put that and the Les Paul together in our minds.

  • The link is the solid body guitar, which Les is responsible for making.

  • Jimi did use a Les Paul

  • @Rafterman123 not in the clip they showed.

  • I don't think Les is playing his guitar . I don't see a cord leading from it. I 'm sure this is his palying on the sound track Don't forget this was the 50's and they did not have the wireless devises they have today. As far as Mary Ford's vocal being live , I don't know , but I do have my douts since She sounds too good for it to be live. I am not saying she did not have good voice . Like I said it was the 50's TV that is why I have my douts

  • I bet you think you're real smart by making that accusation dont you?

  • gibson-les paul and multitrack recording... he was the man!!

  • he is dead but thats a tradgety

  • your a sad child no respect i hope you open your eyes later in life, before its to later and you lose someone.

  • Great documentary - BUT - the scenes where Hendrix is smashing a guitar... the guitar he's smashing is a Stratocaster! OOPS...

  • thats what he ment they smashed cheaper guitars.

  • They also show Townsend playing a Strat during the My Generation clip

  • R.I.P. LES PAUL

  • @BruceBaerLee i think he's not dead ....

  • @leepep he passed away in August of '09

  • Michael jackson vs Les Paul - in regard to who had more of an impact on music in the 20th century - come on now - There should be a Les Paul Day/Week - whatever waaaaayyyyyyy

    before a Michael Jackson Day

  • R.I.P Les we all owe you for every modern music style existing.

  • This documentary was brilliant, I saw it a while ago. He really was and will always be a massive legend. To say he had a good innings is an understatement. Prodigal, influential, and a virtuoso to boot. And yet most people are more inclined to remember him as a brand of guitar. From country to jazz to pop to blues to god knows where (nothing escapes genre more than his multitrack recordings). He is pretty much my favourite guitarist of all time and one of the best musicians of the 20th century.

  • The Les Paul guitar is not as good a it is made out to be its just hugely popular and when people buy a guitar they say that, jimi page played this kind yet look at all the other possibilities, I am proud to say that I will buy a les paul in my life

  • the les paul is by far the best sounding guitar on the shelfs- well for rock, blues , and metal- of course if you want a thinner sound the strat is nice to but not as good for rock and metal but good for blues- les paul = best guitar to date

  • RIP Les Paul

  • watch?v=MyqmNueFoiY

  • That Guy called Henry in the video from the CEO is supposably running the company into the ground. Its mostly his fault that The quality control of Gibsons are going down and the price of Gibsons have doubled. There were reviews from the workers at Gibson saying how bad it it to work there and how you have a great chance of getting fired

  • Rest in peace, Les.

  • RIP

  • i gotta les paul black beauty triple humbucker, its a cadillac, plays like a dream,r.i.p les,too bad i never got to see you play.

  • RIP Les Paul.

  • what would it be if hendrix has a left handed 1959 les paul

  • i waaaaaaaaaaaaaant

  • KEITH!!! :)

  • awsome sounds .....

    like my songs?

    at justjamesarts1

  • A Les Paul is a good guitar, it's been used to play some of my favorite music. It is also a very over hyped guitar.

  • Unfortunately for this documentary, the song used at the start ('Communication Breakdown' from Led Zeppelin's first album) had Page playing this on his Fender Telecaster.

So, a small quibble and maybe understandable considering Page is famed for being seen playing Les Paul's live most of the time.

    --------

Les Paul was not only an awesome player but an incredible inventor of devices and recording techniques. We are grateful for his contributions to modern music.

  • R.I.P Les Paul

    we will miss you man

  • Not many good people like Les and Mary left in the music business nowadays.

  • lol poking fun at fender by showing them smashing strats

  • did jimi ever touch a Les Paul?

  • yh he used 2 play a right handed custom

  • that's the same thing I thought xD

Hendrix is an icon of Fender guitars...

  • a few times but since lefty the strat was easier to reach higher regions without getting the thing customized- tho it wouldnt have been hard for him to get it done he just never customized his guitars

  • @Natio741 Not that I've ever seen. Bill Haley wasn't playing a Les Paul either. Bonnie Raitt has been quoted as saying that rock and roll wouldn't exisit without the tone of Leo Fender. Here she's sucking up to Gibson. Les is possibly the greatest ever. They were still trying to get the best of him at 92. They still couldn't.

  • @Natio741 nope cuz hes black

  • @Natio741

yes on his last recordings Valleys of the Neptune and also played a few Flying V's.

  • @Natio741 Hendrix? I don't think so, from what I know, he used an SG and a V.

  • @Natio741 he did

  • @Natio741 ive seen pics of Jimi playing a LP Custom and a LP Special

  • @Natio741 he touched an SG before.

  • @Natio741 @MegaDarth666 @blues970123 @rougeblock250 in the hard rock cafe in chicago as soon as you walk in there is a black beauty Les Paul custom that he played somewhere. pictures of it on google and stuff.

  • i bout passed out wen i first seen it

  • when you pick up a les paul, you kinda feel power to your playing...

    hot babe at 1:28, anyway!

  • i wants meets friends

  • RIP Les Paul, you will live in our memories

  • RIP to one of the greatest guitarists and inventors to ever live.

  • ja e en kossa

  • RIP Les Paul!

  • we'll miss you les paul

  • R.I.P les paul

  • rip to a music pioneer.

made a HUGE impact in the music world.

  • thank god for les paul!!!!and a good long life he had too!!!

  • indeed, we will miss him...

but in half of the video paeple werent using les pauls

u can see townsend and hendrix destroying their strats, not les pauls

and half of the blus guitarists were using gretch

  • Actually, that shot of a Gretsch Jet was part of a movie clip of Chuck Berry. In that case it was a studio prop. Chuck played a Les Paul Custom early on, then es345s and es355s.

Almost no blues guitarists used Gretsches. It was mainly Fender and Gibson, if you could afford them, Guilds, if you had a little less money and Kays, Harmonys, and and so forth if you were starting out. Gretsch was big with country and the British bands.

  • Who ?? was this guy. Was he an inventor or a musician ?? fucked if i know.

  • u retard. he MADE THE LES PAUL!

he was also a popular blues and pop guitarist in the 50's

  • he was both

  • He is the inventor of solid body electric guitar!

  • the world will miss him :/

  • He was so amazing :)

  • He had a good life, god bless him.

  • R.I.P.

  • I thought he was dead anyway...

  • help stop the NAU and the health care bill

  • RIP

  • R.I.P les paul

  • WTF does Elvis have to do with Les Paul LMAO? 200 grand is a lot of money, I wonder if Peter wished he didn't smash so many xD

  • @AfroSchmuck Elvis didn't play a Les Paul, but his guitar player, Scotty Moore, did. Scotty's gold top played a big role in his sound durrin the early Sun Records recordings that made Rock & Roll popular in the first place. Just thought I'd throw that out there...

  • @airdancr1 fuck Elvis.

  • RIP LES PAUL THANKS

  • You will always be around because you gave us something that will last R.I.P

  • R.I.P.

  • Funny how by the end of the 60s most of the guitarists they named played Fenders

    Fender PWNS Gibson

  • q verga

  • meu sonho de guitarra

  • thanks for the music man :.)

  • hi my friends

  • Nigel Tufnel: The sustain, listen to it.

Marty DiBergi: I don't hear anything.

Nigel Tufnel: Well you would though, if it were playing.

  • rip les paul

  • Wasnt Comminication Breakdown played on a telecaster?

  • Goodbye LP - and thanks.

  • Today's music would not be the same without Paul. We shall miss you!!!! RIP

  • Tell that to Jeff Beck, Clapton, Page, SRV, the list goes on. They all worshipped Hendrix.

Perhaps you should stick to punk music. The music relevant to current times but certainly not timeless.

  • hahaha ya the guitar smashing craze what a joke hahaha

  • RIP Les Paul: Pioneer of electric guitar

RIP Jimi Hendrix: Greatest electric guitarist

  • keep your hendrix opinion to yourself, his music was boring

  • you stupid canadian, snow is boring, get back in your igloo

  • Yeah fuck you, Canada is boring. what he said.

  • thats why he is considered by most to be the best guitarist ever

  • Make that Pioneer of music... He created multi tracking,

  • RIP Les Paul.

  • i love those guitars!

  • ME GUSTA MUCHO.DIMITRIS DE GRECIA

  • did Dimebag invent multi-track recording? the electric guitar and humbucking pickups? etc...? fuck no.

  • wow i was just looking him up on wikipedia last week D:

  • A True Legend !

  • Rest In Peace...Lester William Polfus...Vaya Con Dios...

  • Les, you changed the world and make rock and roll possible..Without Les Paul there woiuld be no Elvis, Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Michael Jackson. Thank you for all the gifts you gave the world.

  • dont blame les for michael jackson! he had nothing to do with that freak of nature! the others are ok tho

  • Les Paul,

    You will be missed.

    R.I.P

  • les pauls are amazing I also like the ESP eclipse cause it turns a les paul into an awesome metal guitar

  • UUH i hate those guitars,

  • I heard they're gonna bury him in a giant guitar case

  • R.I.P. Les....

Unfortunately this video starts with Jimmy Page actually playing a Fender Telecaster ! Someone should have known that Jimmy didn't use a Les Paul until the second album.

Anyway.... I still have my '69 Les Paul Deluxe Sunburst... all beat up and perfect. !

  • the music has died again today

  • Les, you were an extroardinary guitar player, and no doubt inspired many of the guitar players today, without them even knowing it. Rest In Peace Les, and thank you for changing the musical world forever.

  • rip les paul

  • did he dead?

  • Unbeliavable. I read about an interview with Les Paul just a couple of hours ago in a magazine, and then I find out five minutes ago he's dead? Thank you Les Paul, on behalf of all of us who play guitar, for the axe wielded by so many greats - Jimmy Page, Pete Townsend and of course Les Paul himself to name a few. Rest in Peace, Les Paul!

  • RIP

  • RIP

  • I'm sad... thanks for my favorite guitar in the world Les Paul.

  • I hope the British media gives Les Paul the coverage he deserves. He helped change modern music more than Michael Jackson and he got wall to wall coverage.

  • Channel 4 news mentioned it, But I think that was it.

    Hard to believe.

  • RIP Les Paul... You lived a great, long life and shared your talent with us until the end! Thank you!

  • RIP Les. There won't be another one like you.

  • That was Bill Haley playing a Gretsch....

  • Keith Richards sucks! He looks like a drunk monkey on crack!

  • He IS a drunk monkey on crack.

  • Bigsby made the first solid body guitar.

  • im not sure why, but knowing the CEO of gibson actually PLAYS makes me really at ease. just i guess this is because some companies are just.. idk not as good as they used to be because of power hungry people..

  • whats the first song?

  • Led Zeppelin Communication Breakdown on Led Zeppelin (1)

  • Communication Breakdown was played on a Telecaster btw, basically the total opposite of an LP. lol

  • you absolute slosh, kill yourself that is rock 101.

  • the G&L legacy is sooo much better then an over priced les paul. A paul has great sounds but it cant touch the pop and grind of single coils on a legacy or strat. not to mention a strat is a much versatile instrument

  • The fist Les Paul was build by Epiphone not Gibson!

  • Uh... what? Gibson was the one that first produced the Les Paul.

  • You are correct!

I meant the first guitar, which Les Paul designed (The Log), was designed in cooperation with Epiphone. I think he made the guitar in the Epiphone plants and also attached parts of an Epiphone guitar to the LOG.

The first Les Paul as we know it, was off course manufactured by Gibson. I play one by myself, hence my nick.

  • Awesome. The first guitar sound you hear for this clip is a TELECASTER!!

  • whats with hendrix and his flaming strat at 1:52?

  • Yep, the Hendlix video did not fit into this documentation

  • in 1:10 you could see in the background that there are some strats hehe

  • Keith Richard Rocks!

  • half the guitars in this video were NOT les pauls..

  • Ha, isn't kind of ironic that they play a song at the beginning on which a Fender Tele was used.

  • Smoking guitars!!

  • where can i find this dvd off keith and les paul?

    This is a nice duel.

    Les pauls rocks!

  • nobody ever claimed Les Paul invented the guitar,...he just perfected it

  • im not exactly sure what he did.. i think he invented the electric guitar as we know it.

  • Les actually invented MULTI TRACK RECORDING and the ELECTRIC GUITAR! I mean he revolutionized the music industry!!(and most people outside the music bizz dont even know it)

  • No, he did not invent the electric guitar! He build the first solid body electric guita

  • bolloks!

no one reamimbers the real inventor of the guitar.
