Random missing notes (overstrums) are almost ALWAYS caused by slide bar (just desactivate it in in-song options) and NOT by strumbar.

Man, I have controllers from 35 years ago on my Atari 2600 that still works perfectly, but Red Octane can't make a controller that lasts more than 4 months?! I realize there is quite a lot of stress on the switches, but they make switches these days that can withstand millions of clicks. Oh well...

Mine wouldn't strum down right but it would strum up perfectly. I only strum down so I had a problem. So I just opened up he guitar and turned the strum thing around. When I strum down the game picks it as strumming up. The only time this is a problem is in the menus but during the game I can strum down without missing any notes now.

If your CD is not scratched, and your GH starts stopping, and you hit the targets but you miss, what is wrong? is it the guitar? cuz mine is like that and when i play i DO HIT the targets but the game says i missed. @LOLWTF1997 Do you have a HDTV? It can sometimes mis-calibrate and you have to manually calibrate it. It may help by going into options and calibration test or if you fail you can calibrate then

Mine used to overstrum, now it understrums. Anything with any form of alternate strumming i can no longer fc.  I can fc stricken and number of the beast, but yet i still get -20's on the seeker cause my guitar doesnt wrok -.-

My down strum was working *most* of the time but you had to strum hard and it would still not register a strum every so often. Instead of replacing the switch I bent the metal with needle nose pliers so that it activated the switch with less strum movement. This fixed the problem and tweaked the sensitivity of the strum - great for those quick note sequences. Anyone with a similar problem should try this fix first before buying a whole new switch.

Bought Guitar Hero: Metallica in early July and took extreme care of the guitar and then now, every couple of notes when i strum down it makes the wrong note sound which means that ive strummed twice when Ive only strummed once :(

Follow this guide! Only cost me a bit for tools. I went to google though and typed in "guitar hero guitar fix" and they had a step by step guide with exactly what you need to buy. Saved myself at least $80!

Btw, to all those out there curious, I got all the tools and parts for about $30. The two new switches costed me $4 from radio shack, solder wire, solder iron, and torx 6 & 10 screw drivers was $26 together.

It's more fun to buy the things you need to repair an item than just buy another.

Besides, I spent ~$30 for the tools and parts, a brand new guitar will cost you $70-80. Unless you buy a used one that has a chance that it too will break on you.

My fixed guitar works better than the Les Paul guitar now (which I haven't had a single problem yet), and the strummer is extremely responsive.

This problem is also down to faulty switch contacts inside the guitar and is fixed by replacing the switches as the video shows

Yes this is because the electrical contacts on the switch inside the guitar have broken and any slight movement can cause it to strum

what you need to do is take the guitar apart, take out the board with the two switches on and try and play the game by pressing on the switches dirctly NOT having the strum bar hit them when it is all assembled - this will help you track down weather your problem is mechanical or electrical - get back with results and ill see what I can suggest

afraid not - you need to bite the bullet and just learn to solder - it really is simple and with 15 mins practise you will be fine! when you can solder a whole new world of tinkering opens up! hehe!

ive done this repair it works great i have also shortened the 2 coiled springs so they are exactly the right length now they no longer place any preasure onto the strum bar as i found this to be a problem as they force the strum bar into the housing that it pivots on intead of flexing it back to the centre like its supposed to.

try this mod look at the gap between the board and its 4 mounts when it is sat on the springs and clip them by that much it make one hell of a difference.

you will have to remove the warranty sticker and its one of those tamper prof ones so dont think you will be able to do it so carefully nobody will know!

on te other hand getting the switch and replacing it yourself only takes a hour or so not like some people who are without their axes for weeks! I did mine because I threw all the packaging away and the reciept so this was less hassle than arguing with the stroe I got it from and its been perfect ever since!
