  • He was great in ottawa yesterday, seems to be a pretty nice guy too

  • No doubt one of his best songs. So flawless, plus the harmony, the rythim... every bit of it clutches into the next like nothing. Definitely one of my top5 Antoine's favs.

  • Antoine Dufour is an alien!

  • What is it with these candyrat guitarists... they all have no sense of good melody or bass lines. And everything sounds so forced, way over practiced and contrived.

  • @shallowhollowbody You dont get it. Music isnt only about the "proper" structure. Its conveys concepts and feelings. Ive listened to musicians who could convey anything from joy to cold, silent rage. And you ever checked Don Ross' work? or Andy Mckee's? they are all splendid at accomplishing exactly what they set out to do. They are not trying to meet your preconceived notions about how music "should" be.

  • @shallowhollowbody I sort of understand your point of view, but keep in mind these are all instrumentalists. They compose the melody, rhythm (percussion), and bass all in one. They are their own band. It may sound forced, but they have to do all that AND convey a story, or feeling at the same time since there are no lyrics. Picture that for a second as a musician before you make judgment. In addition, as @DrownedGhoul said, no one makes music specifically for your tastes.

  • you put four nylon string and two iron?

Wow this is why taste like this.

    Best performer ever heard

  • @Dante1969 All steel strings buddy. sorry

  • 11 people have no taste in music

  • Compared to other songs he has written, this is the easy one.

  • @Bcuzieatiron I agree! While it is hard to get the synchronisity (is that a word? =P ) between the right and left hand, it's considerable easier than say...to run in a dream or these moments! Great song, one of my favourites! Dufour is some musician!

  • I'm glad I can't play THAT good, because then he wouldn't be as amazing as he is. Awesome skills

  • We really loved the Guitar Masters concert in Lawrence, KS last month!!! Thanks to all 3 of you for coming: Antoine Dufour, Andy McKee and Stephen Bennett - all 3 signed CDs and a T-shirt for us. I keep thinking of this song often.

  • anyone has tabs for this? I would greatly appreciate it :)

  • e to drop d and then back to e. craziest S*** ever.

  • Come to San Diego NOW. :)

  • He seriously comes up with the most insane tuning ideas... i fucking LOVE it :D

  • This song is awesome. The end reminds me of "Ebon Coast" by Andy Mckee.

  • Comment removed

  • @fartface0469 Yeah I already know that, but that wasn't his sole purpose of composing/playing music like the lovely person who my comment is directed at refers to.

  • Anyone know what kind of guitar he is using?

  • @Bcuzieatiron Stonebridge

  • you don't need nails to pick or tap; it provides certain sound qualities ("clearer", brighter, more percussive), but it's more personal preference than anything else. I mean, my finger tips are calcified to hell, mainly because I tap a lot and chew the shit outta the skin around it. I can get warm, bassier tones, but also still can get the "tick, tick" from the percussive shell of my fingers. playing a guitar in a warm room makes dif sounds than a cold room. THAT's the kinda shit I love finding

  • @ledestroyer I have really soft skin on my hands and don't have barely any calcium build. . I can still get clicky percussive. It's all about your technique. If you hit the strike your finger down quickly and pop right back off very fast you can still get a lot of presence out of those taps.

  • @EwingPatric for sure. i love how physical things like that can inform technique sometimes. kinda like the guitarist with fake fingers (or was it hand?) from black sabbath--that crunchy, muted sound sparked a freakin genre!

  • One of the best fingerstyle songs period! Pure excellence!

  • im kinda new to playing in this style... do most guys that play like this have long picking nails like that?

  • @92pianist Aye, I dont though and I fingerpick just fine.

  • @92pianist you don't need to, but it sounds much more brilliant :)

  • @92pianist You don't need long finger nails (I think Andy McKee keeps his short and he's got pretty fat fingers...all due respect, he's one of my gods). Antoine Dufour I think uses some sort of fake nails, but don't quote me on that.

  • @CohorsUrban yeah he uses acrylic nails. :)

  • @hellotoyouandmeandyo yay, I was right :D

  • Stephen Bennett will be very proud of him

  • Its EADGCE into DADGCE

  • This song makes me think of SOS from the police, although I like this one better!

It has the same melody to it in some phases of this song!

  • This man is a musician to watch,

expecting great things from this artist:)

    sunaj

  • is it just me or does this man not trim his nails

  • @ThunderCatsHo100 For a fingerstyle guitarist it is pretty useful to have long fingernails on his right hand...

  • @ThunderCatsHo100 he actually puts fake fingernails on his right hand to use as picks on every finger

  • whats the tab notation for tuning down?

  • @0X1D153D

    that's a very interesting question.... :o

  • wow

  • power to u bttjohnson96

  • he makes it look so easy for a second I forget my own abilities and really believe that I could learn this...

  • I can barely adjust my tuning when I'm not playing a song.... Damn

  • Aw my comment got booted of the highest rank :[. Oh well, it lived a good life.

  • 2:00 are you fucking kidding me.

  • Hey yo Antoine, can I borrow that there Stonebridge? I'll give it right back.

  • i want my name too be stephen so bad

  • @babos80 This song is dedicated to master guitarist Stephen Bennett, he's one of Antoine's influences.

  • @deank88 Hey there dean! I know it's been a while since we talked ahaha

I got some tabs, and I thought you might be interested? Would you like to trade? :D I have set 2 from Antoine Dufour and Set 2 from Alex Kabasser (Check out Sungha's covers of his songs if you don't know who I'm talking about...Slababaska's my favorite) and a few others. Message me if you'd like trade some tabs!

  • What happens if his hand gets sweaty and when he goes to detune the 6th he fucks up? Oh wait I forgot, he's Antoine he never fucks up.

  • Obra de arte

  • How to slap and pluck at the same time???

  • @kralle333 by using the edge of his thumb its just about geetign the motion dwon if you pratcie it you should get it

  • ok those super fast tunings actually made me go WHAAAAAT

  • @deank88 Do you happen to know if they sell the tabs individually? I mean, I've got no problem getting the sets, but there were some specific songs that I wanted but in different sets. I'm considering to buy set 5 (Song for stephen, 30 minutes in london, reality), but i really want Trilogy and memories of the future as well, they're just separate sets. And is this really harder than Ashes in the Sea in your opinion?

  • that Stephen's a lucky man :P

  • GOING TO SEE THIS GUY PLAY IN MAY !!!!! cant wait!

  • @hip142

same here man, im see them on may 7 on los angeles!!! see you there man!!!!!!

  • i want a tabbbbbbbbbb i only have the intro tabbed :(

  • his nails are crazy long

  • this is fingerstyle right?

  • There's just something about this, DuFour. I can't help but to bop my head in rhythm whenever I listen to this, which is at least 10 times a day. GREAT tune :)

  • You can never truly appreciate players like Antoine until you pick up an acoustic yourself. When you realize how ridiculously hard it is then you will see how incredible this dude is.

  • Brilliant, great guitar!

  • 11 people do not understand true musical talent

  • @rhydik0uloss nope. 11 people bought the tab...

  • @rhydik0uloss And/or are bad at trolling..

  • @deank88 hahaha

  • 1:59 OMG DID HE JUST TU-- 2:21 HE DID IT AGAIN WHAT ON EARTH IS GOING ON?!

  • I love how he gives everyone watching the finger at 2:02, after tuning his low e to d.

  • what tuning does antoine use? any help would be great!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @gtiyannic Well... For which part you wanna know ?

  • @gtiyannick all of his tunings are on his web page, for this song going from low to high its EADGCE. Or in other words, standard tuning with the B tuned up half a step.

  • @gtiyannick apologies for the mistake on the bridge portion of the song he also drops his low E to a D

  • @twistedrunes1421 oh right sweet

  • Genius lies in the ability to conceive. A stone mason can build an incredible structure...but the architect had to conceive it first. And here lies musical genius. Many have the technical ability to perform the music, but few have the creativity to design it. Antoine proves this..

  • @jakeyy994 simple but brilliant ...

  • i'm so glad my name is stephen

  • @AxelSlam45 Lucky!

  • guitar was officially made his bitch. furthermore, 4.27 sucked

  • That guitar sounds tremendous.

  • 11 people don't know wat true music is

  • 2:19-2:21 hats off! Who the heck changes tuning in the middle of the song? I guess he is the only one who does that.. haha

  • @pleasedohack no he is not

  • @pleasedohack He is telling a story and he knew exactly how he wanted it to sound... such a phenomenal musician

  • Cool!!!

We are having a cool weekend with S.B.!!

  • So he wears fake nails... I can deal with that, just listen to the man! He's miraculous!

  • 1:00 are those fake nails?

  • @Asger1703 yes those are fake nails :D

  • @Asger1703 yes he wears fake nails to help the tone quality, theyre like fingerpicks but not too big, loud and cumbersome (he plays fingerstyle, and when you play that, your bare fingers is too soft of a sound, and fingerpicks are not useful for antoine's music, so he uses fake nails). many guitarists use it, including antoine, don ross, and myself. they are actually really useful; good tone quality and they feel great.

  • cool !

  • Esquisite

  • Scusate ma...ha SCORDATO LA CHITARRA AL VOLO?!?!?!

  • !!! Excelente !!! 100 ptos. grande maestro !!! fantástico!

  • tuning anybody??

  • @seppie1203 Low to High: E A D G C E, all of his tunings are on his official website.

  • a song for me ?? yay>_<

  • @rpoland I can't help but wonder if he wrote this song as a dedication for Stephen Bennett. He has shown a good amount of admiration for the man's work. Can anyone clarify?

  • @bambamm89 Yes he did. He explained in some of the live shows posted on YouTube that Stephen went through surgery (I think for his kidney's?) and he wrote this song for him.

  • the most delicate son of a bitch when it comes to playing. he's the only reason i play.

  • 1:58 WOW.....detuning mid riff. so amazing.

  • dude i like the part at the time of 0:00 till 4:27

  • dude u should teach how to play your music because i would love to learn how to play like u man

  • @assassin309 he does teach music.

  • Silver ring of death on his fingers.....two of them...explains how good he is.

  • 2:18 to 2:51 rocks. my favorite part of the song.

  • love how it drops back in near 2:40..Beautiful flow throughout, one of the funnest songs to play to

  • Wow I bet Antoine gets more ass then a toilet seat.

  • @lilmark816 sadly, he probably doesnt, simply because there arent but maybe 500 women who are smart enough to understand more than 5 notes

  • @lilmark816 I hope you know, most decent and intelligent people aren't in the music business for the sex. I think you're confusing Antoine with Lil Wayne or some other piece of shit that you would consider to be an "artist" or "musician" because you don't have the mental capacity to think of music to be something that you merely enjoy from the heart. Please, go spread your ignorance and filth elsewhere.

  • @btjohnson96

Lol. Harsh much? You might as well have told him his mother regrets not swallowing him.

  • @heegohordavio You're a disgusting pig.

  • @btjohnson96 Lol

  • @btjohnson96 couldn't say it any better myself.

  • @btjohnson96 dude chill he was just making a joke. jesus you really thought he was being serious? "go spread your ignorance and filth elsewhere." he was just joking about antoine's skill. we all know that antoine isn't in it for sex, that's kind of obvious. we don't need dumb people like you that bitch all the time about how a person's joke is "inappropriate" and "incorrect." so please, YOU go spread your ignorance and filth elsewhere.

  • @Wcburg1 Besides, he probably does get insane amounts of pussy hehe

  • @Wcburg1 Remember dude internet = serious fuckin business

  • @btjohnson96 you speak the truth my brother

  • @btjohnson96 I don't know if you are aware of this but Mozart was a womanizer although he loved his wife he was still in need of constant attention. But I do see your point and agree with you just wanted to shed some light into idea there.

  • @btjohnson96 A bit harsh?

  • @treeradioproductions Not at all. Just the truth.

  • @btjohnson96 Okay. :-) I agree now that ive listened to the song again.

  • @lilmark816 he's married you a hole

  • one question, is this the standard tuning?

  • @s3x0fd34Th not really, it's : EADGCE

  • Comment removed

  • emotional!

  • Deserves 10x the views (as do all of Dufour's stuff)!

  • What body style is this Stonebridge 23-CR?

  • love you antoine. now dont get fat like all the other candy rat guys

  • at 1:59 did he just do what i think he just did?

  • @TriviumFan15 yeah he did :)

  • @TriviumFan15 and at 2:22 again,; he just down and up the tone of the six string, its only in the moment,

  • @TriviumFan15 yep.. and back again at 2:24.. :)

  • @TriviumFan15 I'd tell you what tunning this is, but he keeps changing it.

  • @nkalbasi what's a tunning?

  • @TriviumFan15 Yes he did tune the guitar down while play!!! ^_^

  • @TriviumFan15 yeah... he fucking tuned his guitar!!^^ I love this guy;)

  • @TriviumFan15 its not as hard as it seems...this is one of the easier Dufour songs to learn.

  • @PabstBrownRibbon I never siad it was a hard song my friend. It sounds like a rather easy song but the whole tune down thing, now that takes some skill to get it perfectly.

  • @TriviumFan15 Yeah I agree it took me a while...its different on every guitar and string gauge, so you have to train your ears or know your guitar really well. There's no room for error either cause the G chord in section of the song after the retune up to E betrays you and sounds jarring if you're off by a bit. Also playing this song on nylon strung guitars is virtually impossible without rearranging it...takes like three peg turns to drop a damn step.

Keep at it, it'll feel natural soon.

  • @TriviumFan15 of course, my friend! Tiz the same thing at 2:23 !

  • @TriviumFan15 Well if you like that I'm sure you'd like Selene by Michael Manring =P

  • lowered the 6th string, and back up again at 2.22

  • @TriviumFan15 I see Michael Kelsey doing that technique a lot.

  • I know he's been playing for a long time, I just wonder...how long?

  • @AcousticDreams0 he started playing at 15, this video was made in 08 I'd say he's been playing for 14 yrs. as of now, 16 yrs.

  • How much ya wanna bet Antoine never lays his right hand on a woman?

  • @abstract37 haha yea too sharp xD

  • @abstract37 I wouldn't be so sure. These aren't his natural nails, he use fake nails for playing and probably takes them off when he goes on a date :D

  • can you make a song for me my name is marty vadala

  • @thesilverfish3 lmao.

  • Comment removed

  • it makes me sad that he gave that guitar to sebastien cloutier, i like his beauregard but that stonebridge is to my ears the best sounding acoustic i've ever heard

  • This is withoubt doubt the hardest song I know of....even without the tuning change...

and 3:35 onwards....fuckin hell is all i can say

  • @GarretsShadow It's not very difficult at all, but it's written very well! You can see his classical background because of how there are basically two melodies written on top of each other.

  • @TylerChrusciel yeah i know what you mean, his classical roots come out quite a bit in this peice. I still think its ddifficult!

  • how could someone dislike this music? talk about amateur musicians...

  • Tapping and harmonics it's sounding pretty awesome!

  • I'm 14 and I write finger style like him.... He's so good at playing! I have a little habit of using the open strings on DADGAD but it's getting better and I'm composing one with ta

  • oh my god 1:57 when he tunes his bottom string down while he's playing... that's friggin amazing ive never seen anyone do that before. that takes a good ear!

  • Wow holy mother of pearls that was amazing i've never seen him tune before while playing AMAZING IF I HAD ONE WISH I WOULD WANT ANTOINE DUFOUR TO TEACH ME HOW TO PLAY ALL OF HIS MUSIC THEN I WOULD BE ABLE TO PLAY GOOD REAL GOOD

  • Did that motherfucker just tune in the middle of the song? Holy fucking balls. I know some people have perfect pitch like Jimi who fought his guitar back in tune but damn talk about a transition for your song if you just wanna drop tuning

  • @heegohordavio The camera change when he tunes it down looks a little suspicious though you have to admit. I'm sure for the sake of the video they did stop and tune it perfectly, but that wouldn't be needed when he tunes back up because he plays the first string right after which is the same note. :p

  • This is the first time i've ever seen someone fingerpick with their pinky

  • Whats holding his guitar up? I want one!

  • @Peppe9 It's called an A-frame. They're great.

  • blood!

  • it's Jesus' bandana lol

  • It has to be a magical bandanna. I can't imagine any mortal being able to play like that.

  • @meetmeatthe1 Leo Kotkee

  • @mrkillerfun sorry, Leo Kottke
