Sorry about that, it was late & they just slipped out I guess :-o ;-)
GAb & I had a meeting of the minds. He's a vlogger that I've known for a while, he also has earned my respect over time. I wanted him to know the view of a longtime viewer who isn't just another fanboi. It's probably the first & last time I do something like this. I apologize for the verbocity of my posts. Won't happen again :-)
:) No need to apologize...we had a good conversation about facts, opinions, and views. I am happy that you are a longtime viewer, but better that i earned your respect. i do not want to assume anyone's respect. i rather earn something than giving.
His YT name was "Columbia4200", he lived in Columbia, TN when he vlogged. He started back in 2006 on YT. He moved to LV when M13 got banned from YT in Feb 2007 (in solidarity I suppose). On live video he chose the username "theJosh", something he referred to himself casually as on YT. He was in his early 30s while vlogging. He was really good at explaining everything MC because both his parents were MSF instructors & they used him to practice their teaching skills on...
He also worked for the local police dept in a nearby town iirc. Tho he wasn't a police officer at the time, I think he was just a civilian working with the PD. He was instrumental in organizing the first trip out to "the Dragon" by motovloggers (because he used to run it many times just for fun). He rode alot & explained alot. He stopped vlogging back in 2007 after relocating to the panhandle of FL. He was the first person to "hit the deck" with the cam running (I still vividly remember it too)
After falling, he released the footage & fully explained what he felt happened & what he thought the causes were. He was as surprised as we (the viewers) all were at lowsiding in a turn the way he did.
While on his rides, he was very well aware of the risks of riding a MC & was always admonishing riders to use caution. I think he finally gave up vlogging after moving to FL & meeting a woman who would later become his wife. He was good, more knowledgeable than M13 - but that's not too hard to do
wow...well thank you very much for giving me insight about him...all in all he was the one that got me started vlogging...and not only great to explain it but did it in the way a new rider would understand it..i was not a new rider when i was watching his videos...but i was teaching someone at the time...i had them refer to his videos. it would be great if someone could get ahold of him and contact him to talk about getting back into it
idk, he seemed perfectly happy to stop vlogging altogether & move on with his life. Which is fine of course. IIRC he abruptly stopped vlogging without a word as to why & many on LV thought he crashed or something. I understand his GF/wife left a message on M13's forum explaining his absence & that he was fine but had decided to just move on. I think he was also working more closely with the PD & they wouldn't look kindly on him ridin' "dirtay" while off the clock & putting it on cam! :-D *haha*
lol..yeah i guess working with the cops and riding the way we do on cam isnt a great mix...lol..but at least a message was posted about his well being...i guess we will just have to induct him into the MC hall of fame..lol...life does take turns...hobbys get lost and new one appear..as long as he is hapy and doing well thats really all that matters
Talk to Trinith about him, he probably has more details about what's up with Josh lately. I'm not sure if they keep in touch or kept in touch for a while after he stopped. I'm sure Trinith could probably add something to what I just layed out
Take care GAb. btw u are in my view much better than M13 as a vlogger. But we don't need to let all those fanboi's know that cause we all know how sensitive our Canadian friend is about having his ego bruise by the truth...
well again thanks for the info...glad someone knew who i was talking about nad remembered his videos..and thanks for the compliment...he is sensitive.lol
...don't get me wrong I like M13 as much as everyone else, but I've "known" him since he started - when he was just a lonely North American guy living in Taiwan wanting to connect with other english speaking North American/Europeans thru YT just to speak english more often than he could otherwise.
Back then he was genuinely looking for friendships thru YT... now he just can't seem to stop trying to market this M13 brand to all these inexperienced YTers - they think he's a riding god *rolls eyes*
n a nut shell thats what i ment by he needs to realize what he has become and get back to the real him...he needs to understand that just because he is the first doesnt mean he is the best..no one is the best a it ....some days you have good topics or just a great funny video..other days you just fall short..but all in all you maintain your integrity
M13 does have a great sarcastic sense of humor (a sign of his high intelligence) but he also has emotional deficiencies that he's probably always had given his family difficulties back in Canada. I remember that in the early days he seemed to suffer from a recurring depression of some kind. He would try to mask it thru humor, but u didn't have to look too hard to see it. He's got personality shortcomings, but that's part of the package. None of us is perfect anyway. He'll wise up one day =)
yeah your right you can noticed something going on though the humor...never thought of it that way...yeah we all got good and bad in us...i kinda went after him maybe too hard....really my main point i wanted to get across is who is was and who he as become, maybe for the fact that he will be who is is..but when he call vlogger liars kinda got under my skin..there are things being said in he forum now that probable should piss me off but i done with it..
and kinda forked off from my point of my point of the video...but i guess i just tried t make my point in a different way. i knew posting that would loose subscribers but it happens...not hear to get a million subs...just meet people with common interests..and there will be subs that come and go but there will be the foundations that will never leave.
OK look GAb, I've been on YT since b4 M13 got started on YT. I just used to look for MC vids & I'd use manufacturer names as keywords. That's how I found him when he was the only 1, along with tank cam & stunting vids. I've never bothered to create a YT account to sub to anybody, I just couldn't be bothered with the whole fanboi aspect of things, I just wanted to watch good vids when I had some spare time. I've created my account as an experiment, to see what could be done if u aren't...
... hopelessly chasing after #s of 1 kind or another. I put together the kind of channel I've always wanted to see but have never found. I still have hassles with the YT interface even now that annoy me, but we'll see how it goes.
I think M13 audience has mostly been youngsters/young adults - gamers - internet savvy folk who think that riding a MC looks so cool, better than a video game even!! I'm talking about the 1s who didn't already ride MCs ...
I've seen / am seeing so many young folks run out to buy new MCs + new cams just so they can be just like M13 too. And what they don't seem to realize is that M13 was a seasoned Mcyclist b4 ever putting cam into helmet & so are all the other OGs of motovlogging. M13 even told them don't go getting yourself a new bike to start... but they do it anyway... & of course we see the totally predictable result of alot of these noobs hitting the deck after just a few short days/weeks...
the funny thing was that was my next topic...i have been getting a message here and there...saying they go there camera and wanting to know what kinda of bike would be good for a beginner rider and vlogger...i tell them get a used bike that you dont mind getting screwed up...and put the camera away or use it for birthday partys..and put your efforts into becoming a better rider..
I've got alot of motovlogger subs both old & new but all active - I'm seeing these noobs go down seems like every other week now & we're only half way thru the 09 season =o. There was something similar happening last year as well but not as frequently as it's happening this year. M13's forum is filled with bogus info created by alot of well meaning but not well informed young people...
If M13 wants to do the right thing for the kids that look up to him he'll quit pedelling his forum as a be all/ end all of info on MCycling & he'd point them in the right direction to get the info that their lives depend on.
I hope he understands the resposibility that comes with popularity, he must give those kids access to quality reliable info that they're gonna need & not this bogus echo chamber that experienced MCyclist don't trust.
I don't care about how he does it, or popularity, or #s or any of that. I'm smart enough & experienced enough to know what I'm looking for. And also to know when what I'm looking at ain't it. Many of these young folks (noobs) don't have that & it's very plain to see it in their vids. I look at their vids & I just get a bad feeling because no one is there to tell them what is waiting for them just down the road or around that next bend.

yeah i think we are on the same wave length on this whole topic...being that popular can be dangerous if you are giving wrong/bad/none information.
give people or the young people good information about riding, tips but you can do it with humor to get through to them.
older yes.... wiser? hmm we all hope
