We are so happy about this news. Slowly but surely God's Truth is being revealed in front of our eyes! I expect soon the medical world will admit that blood transfusion has been the biggest blunder of the last 100 years. In just 20 years or so, bloodless surgery has progressed in a major way. Just think of the progress they could of made if 100 years ago these people had said, "We can't use blood because that is against Gods command Let us put our heads together and think of another solution."

My friend just had a bloodless heart transplant at University of Colorado Hospital. He recovered and was out of the hospital 2 weeks after the surgery!

It is about time. As one of the memebers of the Govering body used to say before he passed on " this blood tranfusing is so arciac " I guess Brother Gangus in his new postion must have had a hand in this . It is about time, as bloodless medicine has been around for a long time and is finally getting the respect and attention due. And by the Government no less! What a blessing for mankind once it is reconized!! Our prayers have been answered and rewared here!

I loved that part. Years ago, we were considered bizarre, even cruel, for our stand. The way he says it makes it seem like "Why would we NOT do this? It's a no-brainer."

But no Jehovah's Witness will ever claim that's it's due to our own wisdom. We're just following Jehovah God's instructions in the bible.

The efficacy of transfusion therapy has never been established clinically. The practice became prevalent due to limited anecdotal success (as a volume expander), primarily on the battlefields of WWII. If it were currently a new therapy facing rigorous clinical testing it would almost certainly not pass muster due to its inherent risks and ineffectiveness.

Bloodless medicine is thus not a 2nd rate compromise but rather represents state of the art treatment irrespective of religious issues.

There are two primary intended outcomes related to transfusion therapy: (1) oxygenation; and (2) normalization of vascular volume and pressure. Studies indicate that transfused blood does not achieve (1) because RBCs become deformed in storage and actually inhibit oxygenation in the recipient's bloodstream. Regarding (2), there are far safer and more effective means of achieving hemostasis. Thus blood transfusions are never truly medically necessary.
