Man I love your humor. This video (and I'm sure others you have) is what I've been looking for. Teach on man! You had me when you're talking about how back them people PLAYED instruments!
I'm diggin' the tracks from Street People and The Pretenders and the Brian Holland track i can hear the "Band of Gold" groove kickin' in there. No surprise tho cause HDH produced that track. cool songs here.
LOL! about the Beyonce comment. I already risk my life dissing Beyonce to my friends and still unapologetic about it. (I realize I'm fighting a tide but I gotta stick to my guns here) now onto part 3.
@funkysoulguy HDH was a force to be reckoned with even after they left Motown, cuz Invictus-Hot Wax-Music Merchant was HOT back then!!! Never back down on how you feel about certain artists, we know the truth, let them stay ignorant until they realize the truth!!!
That's such a great song & you can learn something with what they're saying. Just being yourself should be enough to for people. Besides, how long can you keep up being a phony to somebody? LOL Thanks so much!!!
thank you brother ain't heard them since.that right took me back from them diana rosses and them smokeys.i'm just showing loves to a brother so peace love and soul.have a good one+
I'm sure they would enjoy this, please show this to them. And you should see my collection, it's enough to make you go blind cuz I have so much!!! LOL A lot of these songs are from what I heard around the house growing up & then later appearing on random CD compilations from all over. It's a fun hobby, but it's all about the music. So glad you enjoyed these & I look forward to your feelings about my other music vids!!!
I'm 19 and my mom says i was born 30 years to late cause i know 60s and 70s songs like people know todays songs this is AMAZING! i feel like this is heaven
Thruthealcove, I love this post! I appreciate your handling of 70s soul history. It's not just about the headliners -- Gaye, Green, the J5, and others. I love the headliners, always will, but there are others out there that made sweet and memorable music during that time. Well done my man!
Thanks so much, that was the whole purpose of this vid!!! People really need to know just how deep soul music from back in the day really goes, it wasn't all about the major artists!!! Thanks for watching & I have other music vids with lots more rare stuff in them, check them out!!!
im from Savannah GA...so pleas believe me when i say with out the Philly sounds..the art of love music..wold hive been lost a long time a go..don't get me wrong..Motown is good but it's not the Philly sound the 80s Anita baker maze Jeffry Osbourn and so on keep it going on..but that Philly sounds is so underrated keep doing a good job dj...we jamming in savannah ga

You have some great stuff!!!! Really enjoyed listening! I was lucky enough to grow up spending my weekends hanging out at the clubs where Mother's Finest were playing back in the late '70's--and they are still going strong. Minnie Ripperton also had some awesome stuff that wasn't so well known--Thanks for posting this!
Oh you're so lucky to have been there, I was a new born!!! LOL But I have all of Minnie's solo stuff & some Rotary Connection too. Mother's Finest was & still is an underrated band who had some great songs!!! I may use them in another 70's vid. Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed!!!
Wyzard has a fantastic bass solo here on YT..I'll send it to you. Jean Kennedy's voice is as good or better than...most anyone's! Mother was opening for some of the MAJOR acts but they flat out stole the show. Again, I really enjoyed this music you played, none of that "homoginized" digital sound..this is real stuff!
So many of these songs sound like they were recorded by the Honey Combs who performed Want Ads and One Monkey Don't Stop no Show. You are amazing for what you are doing.
I didn't look at these in the order you did them .......I did #1 last .......congratulations on the hard work this required !!....Man you took me back to the blue light in the basement! On all of these ......there used to be a guy that would have after hour parties in his basement ....charge a quarter to get in and sell drinks for the same amount and always had a blue light in the middle of the floor !!.......these songs alll took me back!...Thanks !
LOL I'm all late responding to you on this vid!!! LOL Yeah, I do love Bey, but I'm just tired of her. I'd rather hear this stuff cause it has more staying power, longevity & realness!!! I wish parties costs a quarter now, maybe I would go to some more often!!! LOL
Yeah I knkew more than I thought I would ..........never was good at remembering titles but yeah you hit on alot of my memories man.....I knew the most from the Pop section ....it was the '70's I moved to the midwest and the radio was the best thing going :-)
Aside from being a really great record,"Dream World" by Don Downing is also a piece of dance music history having been one of the first songs to ever be Disco mixed by Tom Moulton. It's arranger is Meco Monardo who would become a legend in the Disco era as soundtrack composer and one of the producers is Tony Bongiovi..John bon Jovi's uncle.Lastly, the man who made this meeting of talent possible is Mel Cheren...founder of West End records and co-owner of the world famous Paradise Garage !
I'm not sure if the first half of my long comment was posted but heres the end half If you didn't already figure this out I love music I'm probaly going to make a carrer out of it being a drummer now I'm just waiting for my big break. But anyway thankyou for pulling out these amazing songz that you've been doing and keep true to your self. Peace
I loved your comment because it gives me hope that real music can make a comeback!!! I truly hope your music career takes off cause you have the smarts for it, and I'm sure the talent too!!! LOL Thanks so much & I'm glad you enjoyed this!!! Have you watched part 2 & 3?
I really love the old school music espeacialy songs that weren't popular but were just as good if not better than the stuf on the radio. Now I wasn't around in the seventies but that is truly one of the best times in music history with the 70's we probably wouldn't have the styles we have now like Hip hop, Rap,R&B, even metal all music is connected in one way or another and every song is started by a simple chord or just thought. I'm almost over the limit so I'll post the rest as a reply to this
I can definitely say that you were right: I haven't heard of any of these artists! lol but I think that can show how great the 70s were, because the music was great no matter how famous the artist was. Speaking of the music: great stuff, dude! Especially the groove on that Harlem River Drive track! I also loved how you had real Soul Train footage of B.T. Express too! Not a bad song on here! I'm gonna head right on over to part 2 right now!
Wow dude, your comment put a big smile on my face!!! I'm so glad you enjoyed this vid man, and yes I agree with what you said about how good the 70s were & the quality of music being recorded no matter who it was!!! Excellent points!!!
I LOVE this Video...I didnt come into the world until the late 70s but I was still heavily influenced by my parent's musical preferences..I agree the music of the 70s was the BEST EVER!!!. Please keep the videos comming..two thumbs up
Thanks so much!!! I wasn't born until the late 70's myself, but I connect with this music on such a deep level that it ain't even funny!!! LOL Glad you love this & thanks again!!!
Strings..drums.....horns and the magic vocals. You are so right that music like this is not made anymore. 60s and 70s soul was and still is the best. Thanks for putting this up here and good luck with future ventures!
Well thank you so much, I hope you take the time to watch part 2 & 3!!! Soul music will live on forever, but I do wish I could say the same for today's music!!!
okay i'm getting ready to download "go home to your wife" oh hell naw i gotta get "daddy love" too. YES, i'm loving this "Giving Up On Love" TOO!!!!!!
NO! This reminds me of my uncles in the basement practicing their rollerskate moves for the rink by our house when I was a kid in the late 70's. You seen "Roll Bounce?" There's lots of truth to that movie...my uncles LIVED for skating at the rink. This rink was torn down in the 80's is now the famous Trinity United Church. (Obama's pastor...Rev. Wright) Yep, I'm a Chi-Town gal, but now in the D.C. area.
Anyhow, THANKS for the memories. Wow! I'm getting homesick.
I loved Roll Bounce, that was a good movie cause I love to roller skate!!! Yes I can see some of these songs being good to skate on. I'm loving the stories people are sharing because of this music!!! You are so welcome!!!
Yes! Before they tore down that rink you could just HEAR the old cuts playing, and all the skating teams competing. Jackson 5's "Dancing Machine" was the most POPULAR song played there. They played that song up 'til they closed that rink.
You are truly an connoisseur /historian of the Old School music to me...I was wondering if you ever thought about venturing into cable channels like VH1 or BET to give to educate the young people of today about the history or origin of music as you see it in your perspective? I feel that a lot of these new artist today(not all but most) are not knowledgeable of things like the strings& percussion and just live instruments that bring the song&words to life instead of the studio music-not original
Well thank you ever so much sweetie!!! I haven't thought about doing something like that, and I honestly don't think anybody would listen if I did!!! Like you said, SOME of today's R&B artists do need an education in the music that they are carrying into the next phase, and they need to RESPECT it as well!!! Most of these newer artists are cocky, thinking they are being inovative & prolific, when these 3 videos clearly show that it's been done & waaaaaaay better!!! Thanks for watching these!!!
It just does something to me to hear REAL horns. Beautiful instruments most of these artist today over look. I was cracking up though at "harlem river drive". I was like oh snap they have a group named after the fdr..lol Funny! And that "street people" joint sounds so familiar to me.
You so silly sis!!! LOL Yes, music lovers loved everything about the music. See, you mentioned the horns, nobody today knows about listening out for that in today's music!!! I love the horns in classic soul music!!!
Well, on my next visit with my parents I am going revisit the old albums. Not only the music but the album covers and record labels are bringing back so many memories. As you say, "I Live!"
LMAO you are too much dude!!! I'm sure when you get there, it will really be nostalgic for you. Maybe you'll find one of these in there!!! LOL I'm glad you got life!!! LOL
This was awesome! Thanks for taking the time & effort. Wow, what a refreshing end to my day.........mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, yeah..................You had T.U.M.E.????? Sweet.
I agree with you when you say the 70's produced some of the best music of all. And notice the singers back then didn't have to curse or dance barely NAKED to sell records!!!
Excellent songs! Youre right, dont know any of these but they remind me of watching ol'school movies like "petey wheatstraw, the devil's son-in-law" and Dolemite. The songs on Rudy Ray Moore movies were good too.
i grew up in the 60s-70s and u can agree with me that the 60s-70s WHERE THE BEST MUSIC OF ALL TIME i liked your videos but i wood have heard and sceen videos of sly and the familiy stone he broke the race wars whin he had both black and white members on his team and loved 2 c some santana 3 dog night, ccr and others long live the 60s-70s the best.

I loved Roll Bounce, that was a good movie cause I love to roller skate!!! Yes I can see some of these songs being good to skate on. I'm loving the stories people are sharing because of this music!!! You are so welcome!!!
thruthealcove 3 years ago

Excellent songs! Youre right, dont know any of these but they remind me of watching ol'school movies like "petey wheatstraw, the devil's son-in-law" and Dolemite. The songs on Rudy Ray Moore movies were good too.
iliciaq 3 years ago
Thanks so much!!! I liked some of the music from Rudy's movies, they weren't meant to be serious, but they were pretty good!!!
