I cant speak for the popularity of soccer in the US because I done live there. But I can vouch for the quality. They've started showing the MLS on satellite here in the UK and I've been really impressed with what I've seen. Attacking positive football without all the pussy method acting and injury faking. There are many players in the US who could cut it in any league in Europe and that's no exaggeration.

It's very hard for soccer to compete with this.

Still, the popularity is growing. Definitely growing. But the fans you see at games are a small minority.
