  • The copper wire is the antena :D

    Dobre ;P

  • thumbs up :)

  • anyone tried this?

  • como se llama la aplicacion que hace esas animaciones al usar el mobil?

  • I have no problems with the gps, the only thing is: it takes forever to connect! But after its connected im ready to go.

  • Hello, I have the same issues with my N97 and sometimes it just wont fix forever :( I tried the copper wire without any result. What i noticed is that the metal part of the antenna in the sticker is insulated. Is seems like the metal is covered with plastic from underneath as well. So there is no conductivity with the extra copper wire. Did you scratch the sticker to reach to the metal part? Plz help!

    Thanks

  • Omg.. i get avg 10 - 13 m accuracy with my 5800 inside car in stock condition..

but still the gps sucks, takes long time for satellite acquisition and lose connection at times for no reason..

  • I'm in the market for a handheld, saw some good articles on gpssatnavreviews (.) com

  • HI ppl.. Now I have stoped abusing Nokia Engineers after this fix... You will not trust me but I get GPS fix in 10 seconds (cold start after restart) and Hot Start in 3 seconds.. I have opened the other end of antena.. inserted the polished thin copper wire 2 cm only and kept half cm outside visible... and then after starting the first word from bottom of my heart was ... "WTF.. So early??"

I am happy.. many thanks to brkix. now my Holux M1200 is for sale. :-)

  • I managed to do it yesterday and it worked for me.. in fact i did it without removing the sticker..my phone is in warranty. I just placed a copper wire many be three centimeters and used the transparent plastic cello tape. the fix was early and stable also... But again I tried kitchen silver foil ... but it started heavy raining yesterday so couldn't check the results.. today i will try with Kitchen Aluminum foil. A strip should work better.

  • I have spent bomb on N97.. Very disappointed with the GPS Fix ... If you just trying for fun it never gets the fix.. you reach the destination but it is still blinking... I found the new E72 is much faster in getting GPS fix and very strong fix and reliable.. I use N97 in my car on Car N97 mount.. bloody I had to buy Holux M1200. Its gr8 but extra money. I will try this lets see if it works. 20 minutes to get the fix is very common on N97

  • will i lose my warranty if i do this?

  • how does your phone rotate like that? mine does nothing when i rotate it :(

  • can i make this gps fix on nokia 5800 ?? how

  • thank you for this it def works!!!

  • Is the accuracy of the GPS on the Nokia N97 Mini better than the N97?

  • nokia maps sux....hours waiting without any fix....with sygic mobile not more then 10 with bad weather and agps disabled

  • @brkix hey how did u get those theme visual effects?? pls reply!!

  • @NickyGangstah 16

    is it working right now?

    @musicme1

let's try MapsBooster on ovi store!

  • @517ph - I'm trying to look for it, but it says it's not available in my country for some reason (tried searching on the ovi store at my phone and on the internet).

    Does it help a lot?

  • yea, but i also can`t connect the n97 to wiFi... i get that "No Gateway Reply" error...damn!

  • @NickyGangstah16

you can try Maps Booster on ovi store.

  • ook thanks!

  • do i lost the garante?

  • what do you think, sure yoou lose garantee

  • i have a very doubt.just got the cell.how do i set gps in my cell????

  • why don`t i get any signal? new N97... in the middle of Turin, Italy... i go to "my position" and i get no signal... what can i do?

  • @NickyGangstah16 I don't get a signal either, they say you're suppose to see a red dot signifying your position. But I don't get one EVER.

    Starting to resent Nokia now.

  • the guys at the store where i bought the n97 told me i have to go to "my position" and leave it like that for a few minutes. they said that every gps device connects harder for the firs time. so it should take bout 20 minutes to find my position on the map...but just for the first time...i tryed this and still not working... give it a shot... maybe you`ll be lucky.

  • OMFG, if you were right next to me in person I would give you the biggest hug! You were right, I left it on for a while and when I came back to check on it the red dot was there! I thought my phone was faulty, but thanks to you it's working. Thank you so very much!

  • ok, so it works now?

    does it find your position?

  • @NickyGangstah16

Yeah it totally works now! It can find my position (although it loses it sometimes too), but it works now thanks to your advice :D

  • @musicme1

    no problem!

and yea, the n97 gps receiver isn`t so good. anyway i`m glad it works.

  • I had a 6110 Navigator for two years...trouble free, used it for driving, geocaching, the lot, it's a great phone. Update to a shiny new N97, and nthe bloody thing can't get a GPS ginal anywhere. Hopeless!!!

  • whats the music in the background, i love it :)

  • some drum&bass station found on shoutcast website

  • @NoKozak the song is played by B-Complex, title Little Oranges :)

  • my n97 have gps problem also. It managed to pick up some sat lock for bout 5mins at the first time or so, after that it got a lock even quicker. But ive done a soft reset, then i couldnt get any sat lock. Mine does not have a sticker on attena but a hard things guess Nokia changes it. So any1 know how to fix this???

  • This just goes to show how some dude in his house did something that Nokia never bothered to do. Test and trouble shoot the phone. Nokia should hang their head in shame. If Apple wasn't so hell bent on making their customers brainwashed robots i'd have swapped mine for an iphone months ago. Nokia deserves to go out of business and I hope they do.

  • now i know where u live :D

  • to an accuracy of 18m... 23m... 13m...

  • or without wire, 95, 120, 75, 200 :-))

  • Yes it is really sad that this actually works and that Nokia couldn't figure this shit out them selves.. But I still like my N97 though, even better now with this fix. accuracy is now 10-30 for me it use to be around 70-120+.. But adding just a copper wire didn't really do the trick, I also attached a thin copper plate to the end of the wire to amplify the signal even more and that works really good.

  • @topas80

    hi there...

how did you attach the wire. did you take the case off or some thing? please help. thanks

  • @AVN1SH

    Hi,

I did just like the video instructed... You just take the back cover off. Use a scalpel or a razor blade to sort of pry up the glue underneath the antenna. Be very careful when you do this so you don't cut into the antenna. Do it with the edge of the blade facing slightly downwards. Then just get a copper wire from a speaker cable and attach it underneath the antenna, use the remaining glue to stick in back on.

  • @AVN1SH

Oh yeah, don't mess around like this with the phone turned on like in the video, you can seriously damage it.. Always turn you're phone off while messing with the antenna.

  • lol :-) you`re funny

  • but i am sorry to say i have n97 and i have 2problems and nokia is telling me that they are not included in the warranty gps fix and the camera scratches due to the lens cover.

so what is the best built phone its the iphone:(

  • I am N97 user from malaysia. All i wanna say is BIG THANK YOU for making this work!!!!! Well done. I tried it and amazingly it work!!!!!

    Thank you.

  • could you make another video explaining the exact position of the copper wire !? the SF tutorial, doesn't explain very well

    thanks in advance

  • & BTW My Accuracy is nowhere near yours. The best its been is around 49. it usually hovers around 90 to 400+ m

  • you are being way too vague as to what you did to fix this because I tried this and it's hot helping at all.

  • @bronxboyXXX how are you testing accuracy

  • @hamzie11 it tells you.

  • wtf i wont open my n97 for gps

  • you need a coat hanger stuck in the back, like we had on out tv when i was a kid lol

  • boss i need your help to fix my n97 gps. you no about nokia phones thats why i think you are the right person

  • @Brkix: I applied your fix. I do not know if it works yet but when I turn on Garmin Mobile XT, it can see more satellites quicker, but I have no time to wait for it to find a fix. But I will let you know when I drive to work. I stripped off a thin copper wire from a telephone cable, and then used double sided tape to fix it to the sticker.

  • ik9111: You're the lucky one!

  • Brkix: Is there a link to the Nokia Fix, i.e., sponge sticker?

  • i have no problems with my gps i get signal in 10 secound maybe i lucky :)

  • looks like too many words...

okay, here is what i know.

nokia will ofer in few days official fix for this. it will be some sort of sponge sticker, sticked on the antenna, with should gain around 20dB of signal. will post a video if it works.

  • hi!

    nice video!

why do you ignore all questions, how to exactly connect the wire?

  • for some reason i cannot answer. stupid youtube.

  • wire is simply placed below sticker. you have tutorial on symbian-freak forum with pictures

  • thx

  • look at the flagship phone of nokia...copper cable lol. FAIL.

  • do you loose warranty if you do that ?

  • oh im sorry i saw the hack thing after...

  • I'm sorry but how do you the animations while getting to the menu from another application ? Is this an new update ?

    Thanks :) .

  • Thank you for this, man!

    It worked perfectly for me.

I got even better acc., like steady 16, with the instructions you got there.

    Thank you!

  • ya know the thing is nokia is going down with camera too!! my n95 camera is starting to show some little flashing white dots when i try to take a pic...they look like a dead pixel but only in camera mode.

NOKIA really is fucked up! i hope i can sell mine and buy Samsung omnia HD....samsung phones never let me down (SGHp730,D600,D900)

  • My GPS Isn't that great either on mine. Everytime I try and use the trip application, it always tells me its losing the signal. Most of the time it happens when the screen back lighting goes out.

  • WHOAH!! Where did those UI transitions come from?? That's not on my N97.

  • PLEASE, what kind of cable you use, copper?, copper alloy?

  • dont know really. extracted from some old 12v charger...i guess plain copper

  • if you have had watched entire video, you vold hear that i drove aroun all afternoon testing this. not a single drop of satfix under nokia maps, and worked perfctly.

  • Have you tried a field test with and without the wire. In other words could you make a video demo showing the difference in performance while driving in the car with and without the wire? Thanks in advance

  • I have to disagree with you, at least in my case i can say my N97s the antenna/reception quality works really good, i have a Garmin eTrex Vista Cx GPS device since 2 years ago, and i can say it doesn't really work indoors, it must "see" the sky to get the fix after a couple of minutes.. well my N97 DOES get a fix INDOORS with good accuracy, some times very quick, faster than a Garmin!!.. the compass kinda sucks though,

  • you are the best, i will try in my nokia n97 and i will say ,if it is true or false , i think that it is true ,

  • @brkix Many thanks for this, much appreciated. BUT, the fix doesn't seem to work for me. Can you clarify if the wire is insulated or not (it doesn't look it from the vid) and please can you clarify how important the length, placement and fixing of the wire is? You leave the wire inside the battery case, not hanging externally? Mark

  • I hope you know that everybody can see where your house is by typing the GPS position data into Google Earth :D

    But nice fix anyway ;)

  • then come to have a cup of coffee :-) i have nescaffe cappucino vanilla allways ready :-)

  • @brkix

    hehe, legendo! :)

  • Any ideas for an E71? The accuracy on the E71 is very bad, too...

    Thanks,...

  • What theme do you use? You have these great animations in the menu.

  • this is the transition menu from the symbian os feature pack 2, not only a theme

  • tried this on mine and didnt make any difference :( dont know why, i was hoping it would work.

is the wire connected to anything or is it just taped to the antenna?

  • awesome video, sure thing, people will figue out how to get most out of the phones

  • please give us a better guide onhow to this. where wire goes? etc. thank you

  • that's a good find and fix. but I'm glad I don't have any gps issues with my n97

  • What theme do you use? You have these great animations in the menu. My N97 lacks animations beside the wiping away of the widgets on the home screen.

  • Good fix thanks. My N97 has an average accuracy of 10 to 20 meters without the fix. With the fix its between 1 and 10 meters, but it creates OS stability issues. A friend has an N97 with a similar accuracy to your mobile. The question that should be asked of Nokia is what quality control parameters do they use for components?

  • What OS Stability issues? Please clarify? I'd like to know before I brick my phone again!

  • OS stability issues were interference noticeable on long phone calls, app crashes, phone freezing about twice a day and a bricking, all partially resolved through hard reset, the bricking through full phone format. I suspect it was an earthing issue though could have been through signal overload my GPS was already good for N97. Eventually removed the fix and used the stick down approach push the sticky antenna onto its connectors. Oh, and dont use Ovi Maps!

  • Thanks! I don't use OVI Maps. I use Garmin Mobile. Even before I tried to use GPS. my phone bricked 5 times. Had to hard reset 5 times and reload all data. Paranoid now!!!

  • Please, I would like a better guide! I tried this, but it only resullted in that the spikes are better, but still it averages bout the same prec. :(

  • I dont how this test is valid when your sitting indoors. Off course you are going to get a better signal indoors if you attach a copper arial to the N97. If you repeated this test outside with the same result then it would be interesting, but doing it from a building is not going to prove anything. This is no different to having a radio in doors with the arial down and then putting a wire on and saying, look how much better the signal is.

  • obviously you did not watch complete movie.

i tested it about 3 hours dirving around in my car. watch the movie to the end.

  • could you please show us better where exactly you connected the wire and what shape, thanks
