For me this is the best version of "All of me". Dinah just touches my soul with her emotive vocals..My body shivers when she sang this amazing song..DAMN!
This is from the film "Jazz on A Summers day" lots of great performances filmed at the 1958 Newport jazz festival Anita Oday , Satchmo ,Monk, a very young chuck Berry , and many more search the titlle here and enjoy!
Yes...in the 1950's racism was still at it's high point , but you wouldn't think it looking at the white's playing ,listening and enjoying the Music of the African Americans...it shows you , good music can tame the wildest beast. Long Live the original American music (So-called Jazz ) ,not imported but created in the USA.
What a treat to see this live footage of one of my all time favorite artists. I inherited my Grandmothers record collection and while playing them I discovered the fabulous Dianh Washington!
thanx so much for posting. This brings tears to my eyes my grandparents saw her perform & My mom too. this is one preformer I would've love to see perform.. Thanks to u I just did. this made me feel like I was there.
This is for the Newport Jazz Festival, Newport, R.I., July 6 1958
Mercury EMS-2-401 "The Jazz Sides" (the EmArcy Jazz Series)
from the liner notes by Dan Morgenstern:
"...Dinah kicks off a relaxed tempo and offers a swinging opening chorus...followed by Elliot...Gibbs...Green... Dinah works out her closing half-chorus and she makes her invitation to "come on,daddy, and get all of me" irresistible"
I was fortunate to see the great one during an afternoon show at the apollo with the dells on the bill also. She had the fellows in tuxes and she had two big white dogs as her entrance. And she sounded great. 1958 or so.

She has always amazed me. Dinah died in the 60's and still is a powerful influence on so many singers!

This song...well, it's the ultimate blues song about love, isn't it? And there's only one way to deliver it: you don't sing, you have to wail it.

Dinah still sounds great because her style was timeless. It seems that every great female singer had that same mixture of "little
girl" and "wordly woman". Dinah was no exception. She'll never be out of style.
